He's had the Whip removed which begs the question why Johnson didn't have the whip removed when he went to the Caribbean (the last time he went).

"Andy Drummond, a Conservative Councillor in Mr Hancock's West Suffolk constituency has told PA: "I'm looking forward to him eating a kangaroo's penis...Quote me. You can quote me on that."

Excl w/@Steven_Swinford: Multiple government sources dispute Braverman's claim that she did not block migrants at Manston being transferred to hotels.

One said: "There is a significant difference between commissioning a hotel and signing one off..." 1/2

The government source added: "She didn't make that call and allow people to be transferred.

"She is using semantics to get away with what is essentially a breach of a legal position and statutory duties." 2/2

How will he convince the kangaroo to let him?

Really? Does Parliament not sit during November then? Will he still be paid?

I suppose he's hoping to be rehabilitated in to the public sphere.

My kids love I'm a Celebrity.

Also he probably knows he could be toast at the next GE. This might raise his profile I suppose, but imagine being desperate enough to follow in the foot steps of Dorries.

L1ttledrummergirl · 01/11/2022 12:40

Wtf is happening on the politics show?
They have tories defending the Truss budget! Emily Carver from the iea. They are talking about fair taxes.
These people are insane.

DuncinToffee · 01/11/2022 13:00

He's had the Whip removed which begs the question why Johnson didn't have the whip removed when he went to the Caribbean (the last time he went).

He is on another freebie holiday, Cotswolds this time.

And what about the time it took to remove the whip from Pincher.

Oh the Hancock news is a great distraction as well!

I've just read, on my Apple News feed, a disgusting leader piece on the migrant situation. We seem to be a long way from the days pre Blair of The Sun abandoning defending the Tories and throwing their weight behind Labour

MPs should have pay removed and threatened with recall if they take holiday outside of recess. Of any party.

the80sweregreat · 01/11/2022 14:01

Did Nadine Dorries have the whip removed too?

tobee · 01/11/2022 14:54

Apparently yes

tobee · 01/11/2022 14:56

From her Wikipedia entry fwiw

In 2012, she lost the Conservative whip after she took part in the reality TV programme I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!!^ without informing the chief whip. It was returned in 2013 and she was re-admitted to the parliamentary party.

They really need to have proper contracts for mps . No other workplace would be so tolerant of this sort of behaviour.

Cornettoninja · 01/11/2022 16:16

@mibbelucieachwell I think the ministerial code is meant to be their ‘contract’.

I’m thinking that there need to be (more?) legal obligations associated with taking various offices. It’s absolutely barking the position we’ve got ourselves into.

I’m pretty certain that in other professional arenas Suella would have earned herself a Prevent referral at the very least.

Cornettoninja · 01/11/2022 16:17

And by legal obligations I mean the potential to carry a custodial sentence if they’re broken.

Notonthestairs · 01/11/2022 17:10

Johnson is attending COP27.

He's also bunking off Parliament in December to go to Singapore to give a speech at the International Symposium on Blockchain Advancements (!)
I assume his constituency is used to being without representation.

Notonthestairs · 01/11/2022 17:14

Re:MPs obligations. Another example of our reliance on MPs acting in good faith.
The Ministerial Code is administered/overseen by the PM so unless it's in their interests to apply it there isn't much anyone else can do.
It needs a. Independent adjudicator.

Piggywaspushed · 01/11/2022 17:15

It is somehow grimly fitting that November is Islamophobia Awareness Month.

BewareTheLibrarians · 01/11/2022 17:18

Jesus Christ. How is this both disgusting and completely unsurprising?

“Child asylum seekers who have recently arrived in the UK on small boats say screening officials have put pressure on them to say they are adults, the Guardian has been told.

In some cases, the children say they were told that if they said they were over 18 they would be able to leave the troubled asylum processing site of Manston in Kent more quickly.”

L1ttledrummergirl · 01/11/2022 17:47

I'm not surprised. It appears that the people arriving there have been dehumanised and the staff given carte blanche by the home office do whatever they like to get people processed out of the country ASAP, rather than follow protocol designed to give the best decision for both the country and the person.

It's sickening to think that in Britain now we are treating human beings in such a way and the people at the top- prime minister and home secretary, seem to think it's OK.

I think you are incorrect. The Prime Minister and Home Secretary (and several previous ones) don't think it is OK, they actively encourage it.

BewareTheLibrarians · 01/11/2022 18:21

V true @jgw1 ! Although I heard with half an ear on the TV that Sunak was asking for a “compassionate” approach to the asylum system (I’m going to have to double check that as it really doesn’t sound right!) and immigration minister Robert Jenrick was on the BBC admitting that inflammatory language needed to be reined in. Are the wagons circling for Braverman?

Speaking of the notoriously Tory controlled BBC, they’ve gone a bit odd today. They showed footage of Marston with clear images of young (under 10yr old) kids playing in a playground in the camp.

They also just showed footage of an asylum camp in France, with a young teens/pre teen looking boy in the foreground - both items showing that it’s not just “economic migrant young men” perhaps?

And a piece to camera reiterating the UN’s statement that there is no obligation for asylum seekers to stop in the first safe country… Have they realised the demonisation has gone too far?

DuncinToffee · 01/11/2022 18:36

It would be a start if journalists would stop using 'illegal immigrants'

tobee · 01/11/2022 19:12

This is why Brexit was voted for. And yet if you suggest racism was involved by some leave voters they get extremely angry.

Sovereignty my ass.

"Are the wagons circling for Braverman?"

Not according to Sean O Grady in The Independent
