Ahhh but Fracking = Lower Energy Costs. No Fracking = Votes. The former played well when he was promising to help with the cost of living crisis but now it could actually cost his MPs seats as PM……well, screechy U-turn ahoy!

I am far from convinced that fracking has anything to do with low energy costs, surely if we wanted that we would be promting onshore wind and solar.
I think perhaps fracking = popular with anti-woke party members and those who pay the bills for the wallpaper.

Saucery · 26/10/2022 21:22

I think many people fall for the “self sufficient in energy and not having to buy that nasty Putin’s gas” lie, but yes, fracking in the UK is a potential massive racket involving substantial backhanders, I’m sure.

I remember when fracking was first mentioned here Dh and I had one of more recent arguments about big political issues. He couldn't see that there would be anything wrong with it. I pointed out that my first question was would I trust the fracking companies and their motives? Then would I trust a Tory government to properly regulate them? No & no. End of conversation. Now Dh entirely agrees with me.

If the govt were serious about non fossil fuel energy they would look into wind and wave power.

We are an island ffs.

I hope that the budget next month pisses everyone off big time !
Might wipe the smirk off his face if there is a backlash ..

BlessMyCottonSocks · 26/10/2022 23:13

Well we’re in an absolutely dire situation so pissing people off will be a given.

the80sweregreat · 26/10/2022 23:14

If Liz Truss was a pound shop Mrs T , then RS will be a Boris Johnson tribute act judging by today's act !

Jake Berry on Braverman
"From my own knowledge, there were multiple breaches of the ministerial code."

It looks like Conservative knifes are out.

AutumnsCrow · 26/10/2022 23:47

I think Sunak might have played a blinder here.

He had to do a deal with Braverman, a pact with the devil. But he is actually the devil here, and he gave her what she wanted - Home Secretary - knowing full well she is about to be the architect of her own destruction.

And he’s got rid of her. (Or he soon will have.)

And his hands are clean. Not his fault - the devil kept his part of bargain.

And she can’t come back again.

Notonthestairs · 26/10/2022 23:49

Maybe that is when he could bring Javid in? Seems very odd to leave him as a backbencher.

I am thinking exactly the same.

tobee · 27/10/2022 00:42

Surely she will have to go?

Is Sunak gonna get an ethics advisor btw?

Does that mean she also will have to quit as an MP 🤞

the80sweregreat · 27/10/2022 04:14

The article in the Mail about Suella B online is a long way down!

Although I hope the end result is that Bravweman is toast, I don't think Sunak planned this. If he has to sack her again, it nakes him look incompetent as well as weak for appointing her in the first place. Not a good look in his first days as PM and the media will have a field day with it.

Piggywaspushed · 27/10/2022 07:22

Has everyone seen the Ask Keir and Bridget thread?

It is being very dominated, unsurprisingly , but it could also perhaps do with some variety!

the80sweregreat · 27/10/2022 07:48

Where is it piggy ?

Piggywaspushed · 27/10/2022 07:54

I am not quite sure how to find it ! It was on Active threads yesterday. Will see if I can link. It's quite a stressful read.

Piggywaspushed · 27/10/2022 07:56

www.mumsnet.com/talk/mumsnet_live_events/4663774-got-a-question-for-keir-starmer-or-bridget-phillipson

It's very MN bubble. I'd like more questions on poverty, race, cost of living crisis, international policy , immigration, education, childcare, gender pay gap (all of which do - shock!- affect women) - but I have asked 3 questions, so..!

Saucery · 27/10/2022 08:35

I don’t know why MNHQ aren’t deleting duplicate questions as they said they would (and have in the past). And I’m very gender critical.
Some excellent questions on there on other topics and I don’t think I have anything to add to them, but will read the answers with interest.

Piggywaspushed · 27/10/2022 08:46

I think they are scared to saucery. I don't know why the pile on. Ts and Cs are very clear at the top and I feel sure Justine will summarise into one generic question.

I'd REALLY like some questions on other issues affecting women to appear!

Oh ffs.

Pile on???

Maybe things that are important to you aren't so important to others and vice verse?

Not hard to understand.

However, from @mnhq Comments it's clear poor Sir Kier won't be asked about women's rights, so don't worry.
