Nearly 53, definitely menopausal...or pregnant???

I know it doesn't sound possible but I'm being sick, can't stand the smell of my husband, have terrible headaches and am craving rice. I never eat rice! Also I can't bear tea and I normally drink gallons of it!
It must be a virus, right? No-one my age could possibly be preggers?

You need to test.

Kpo58 · 21/10/2022 10:21

Well have you done a pregnancy test?

minmooch · 21/10/2022 10:21

You'll only know if you test.....

Unless you have fully gone through menopause and havent had a period or ovulation in years yes its possible and not unheard of for women in their 50s to have a last hurrah baby. Get a test today.

Cassavaflower · 21/10/2022 10:24

It's only occurred to me this morning. Will get a test today tho they will probably laugh at me at the shop

You could be. I was still regular at that age so it was always possible.

CormoranStrike · 21/10/2022 10:27

Sounds like it is at least a possibility. You really need a test.

I bought one a couple of years ago (at age 50). I mumbled something about it being for my daughter to avoid any embarrassment/judginess! Blush

Good luck, OP

More likely to be menopause than pregnancy but not impossible

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 21/10/2022 10:37

Blimey OP that's scarey. Where I live they stop prescribing contraception at 52. I'm nearly there but no menopause yet.

SirChenjins · 21/10/2022 10:37

Not impossible for you to be pregnant - but impossible for us to confirm one way or another via the medium of a screen Grin

Good luck, hope you get the outcome you want.

onmywayamarillo · 21/10/2022 10:40

I've had the same symptoms but no way I'm pregnant. Kids all have a similar bug... not really ill but feel sick, off food and a bit lethargic and asking for odd combinations of food they wouldn't normally have

WTF? Surely they can't do that? That must be against NICE guidelines.

I'm nearly 53 and still having regular periods!

StapFooterin · 21/10/2022 10:46

Oh boy! Pregnancy is definitely possible, but I'm 55 myself and some aspects of menopause were definitely comparable to pregnancy. Must admit though, I didn't have lots of symptoms at once like you have, or I definitely would have been testing. Good luck - whatever result you'd prefer!

Cassavaflower · 21/10/2022 10:48

That's the thing, I was 100per cent certain it's menopause, just the sickness and strong smells have thrown me. Off to get a test now.

Sugaspunsista · 21/10/2022 10:48

Oh ... do report back after testing.
I hope you get the result you want

Cassavaflower · 21/10/2022 10:50

Thank you
I really want it to be positive now!

Whistlesandbell · 21/10/2022 11:03

Do you still have periods?

Greeneyegirl · 21/10/2022 11:05

You do hear of it. How old was liz earl with her last? She was 50s wasnt she?

dizzydizzydizzy · 21/10/2022 11:07

Good luck ,OP!

SommerTen · 21/10/2022 11:08

My mum had stomach problems at 52 and was only just starting the menopause so when she went to A&E they made her do a pregnancy test as she had an active sex life with her boyfriend... it was negative but I was like omg I could end up with a 25 year age gap sibling!!

Lwren · 21/10/2022 11:12

Good luck! Let us know once you've tested! 💐

beachcitygirl · 21/10/2022 11:12

I had a miscarriage at 51 so yes, it is possible.

Although unpleasant & sad, I would have been devastated to be pregnant at my age & my lovely step daughter is struggling to conceive so it would have been horrible
All round - although we both felt sad
Hope you get the result you Want OP

cherrytreelanecherries · 21/10/2022 11:13

It is possible but unlikely!

thestarvingcaterpillar · 21/10/2022 11:21

Hope you get the result that you want OP!!
