I know it doesn't sound possible but I'm being sick, can't stand the smell of my husband, have terrible headaches and am craving rice. I never eat rice! Also I can't bear tea and I normally drink gallons of it!
It must be a virus, right? No-one my age could possibly be preggers?

OP posts:
rattlemehearties · 21/10/2022 11:54

Yes I was also here to say maybe Covid, a lot of those symptoms true for me with Covid!

SurlejTiger · 21/10/2022 11:55

It's possible to have common pregnancy symptoms as a symptom of an ovarian cyst. I've no idea if it's also common as a menopause symptom. So please, if your pg test is negative, get yourself checked out.

Notmenottodaynotever · 21/10/2022 11:55

I'm 52 as are most of my friends and none of us have stopped using contraception.
I get that having a successful pg would be very unlikely but there is a risk of falling pg and miscarrying which I don't want either.

Thank you
I really want it to be positive now!

You want a baby at 53/54?

The chances of a successful, healthy pregnancy at that age is slim.

Just don't get the pregnancy test and the COVID test mixed up!

Good luck OP Flowers

Oh god I’ve got covid!!

No..wait..I’m pregnant.

Northernsoullover · 21/10/2022 11:56

My money is on covid.

PicturesOfDogs · 21/10/2022 11:57

Hope it’s the result you want!

That was my reaction too. WTF! I'm not in the UK so NICE doesn't apply. I was at the clinic a couple of weeks ago to renew my prescription and the midwife said it would be the last one as they don't prescribe past 52. Fuck knows what happens then.

You buy your own contraception? There are still non prescription options.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 21/10/2022 11:57

It's more likely to be Covid but get a pregnancy test to ease your curiosity

medianewbie · 21/10/2022 11:57

CallTheMobWife · 21/10/2022 11:26

Technically possible but extremely unlikely. For those referring to periods post 50....having periods does not mean you can get pregnant. It's highly unlikely you are ovulating, and if you were, its even less likely any eggs would be of a quality that would allow for fertilisation. IF that happened, it would be very unlikely to lead to a live birth.

You've a better chance of winning the lotto

All true, but low chance doesn't mean NO chance. Good luck for your desired outcome, OP.

CPL593H · 21/10/2022 11:59

My great gran was 52 with her last (baby fine) 37 years between oldest and youngest siblings.

JanetheObscure · 21/10/2022 12:01

I had surgery recently and had to take a pregnancy test. I was 58.

IceCreem · 21/10/2022 12:01

Good luck OP !

I don't understand why you would though - switch to condoms after years on a coil or whatever? Why not just finish out on what has been working? I imagine this would lead to a lot of women just stopping using anything if their doctor doesn't think it worth prescribing. Which will work out for many of them but not for all.

crackofdoom · 21/10/2022 12:04

The nurse at the hospital where I went for a minor gynae operation said 54 or no periods for a year is the cut off. Although reading this thread, it obviously varies.

Worldwide2 · 21/10/2022 12:05

Let us know op

Septemberintherain · 21/10/2022 12:06

I’m 49 and in peri. I’ve been suffering from the weird sense of smell thing and awful daily nausea (just like morning sickness), for a while now (definitely not pregnant). I keep thinking it’s my out of whack hormones.
It could be Covid, my boss and my sister have just had it and vomiting was the first symptom, a week later the flu like symptoms came on.
My vote is peri though.

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 21/10/2022 12:06

Almost certainly menopause. Just PRAY it's not pregnancy! Shock Not at 53! OMFG!

Why?! Confused

Meili04 · 21/10/2022 12:08

Why would anyone want to be pregnant at 53 😩

CredibilityProblem · 21/10/2022 12:09

Pregnancy is pretty rare at that age. Carrying a pregnancy to term and bringing home a healthy baby is extraordinarily rare. Even if you do test positive OP, please stay realistic about your chances.

I'm 53 and honestly can't think of anything worse. Sleepless nights, poop, crying...nightmare.

LidlCinnamonBun · 21/10/2022 12:10

My parents are in their 60’s and can only manage my lively 10 year old in small doses 😬
but maybe some people - like the OP would like it 🤷🏻‍♀️

BreatheAndFocus · 21/10/2022 12:13

There’s a really horrible non-COVID virus going round. The symptoms are nausea, wind, frequent toilet visits but not always diarrhoea, more urgency. It goes on for weeks and is horrible 😔

Just posting that in case it is the virus. If it is, get some pro-biotics, eat lightly and take it easy.

thejadefish · 21/10/2022 12:17

Well there was that lady (Dawn Brooke?) who had a natural pregnancy at 59. EXTREMELY unlikely of course but def possible!
