Nearly 53, definitely menopausal...or pregnant???

I know it doesn't sound possible but I'm being sick, can't stand the smell of my husband, have terrible headaches and am craving rice. I never eat rice! Also I can't bear tea and I normally drink gallons of it!
It must be a virus, right? No-one my age could possibly be preggers?

I'm sure it's wonky hormones as a result of the menopause. Let us know!

PollyAmour · 21/10/2022 12:36

I would make a GP appointment to rule out any other cause for your symptoms. Pregnancy at 53 isn't unheard of but is highly unlikely.

Just to reassure you both, nobody who works in a supermarket cares what you're buying unless the till flashes up that it's an age restricted product.

Yep I worked as a cashier for years and honestly paid no attention whatsoever. I definitely wouldn’t have been speculating on whether someone looked too old to buy a pregnancy test.

Really? Hmm

I'm 52 and getting extremely sick of my regular as clockwork periods and zero sign of menopause ...

I'd had enough 10 years ago, thanks, Mother Nature.

bert3400 · 21/10/2022 12:39

I had a baby at 41 and I'm now 55. Could not think of anything worse than starting again. It's not the poops, sleepless nights but the sodding school run that would finish me off. My darling boy is 14 so fairly independent now.....But to be faced with 18 years of another dependent. Hell No 😭

This lady got pregnant naturally at 59.

www.theguardian.com/society/2007/aug/20/health.medicineandhealth

She was on HRT but no fertility treatment.

JulieDorness · 21/10/2022 12:42

Oldest recorded natural pregnancy is 56 but anyone conceiving at 53 is (sorry) unlikely to carry to full term.

Zonder · 21/10/2022 12:42

Hope you are ok OP!

And here's me hoping I'd be peri-menopausal by 40. Thanks for dashing that dream!

wondering100 · 21/10/2022 12:43

Good luck!

I don't believe that. Notice it says 'believed' to have.

Yeah I don't believe it either. Like fuck would any woman get pregnant 'naturally' at 59-60.

borntobequiet · 21/10/2022 12:51

The “believed” bit is “believed to be the oldest” not “believed to have given birth”.

Learn to read.

I never read the article, I was responding to a pps post, so don't aim that at me! But even so, I still don't believe it. Absolute fiction IMO.

QOD · 21/10/2022 12:53

oh that was my daydream, I never concieved in my life so I always daydreamed that I would have a meno baby - no such luck. No periods for over 2 yrs and I am 53 now

Placemarking

Why not just add the post to your watch list, and bookmark where you've read to? Place marking is so annoying, especially if people are waiting for updates and it's 50 people all just writing "placemarking"!

ShippingForecastMeditator · 21/10/2022 12:55

I'm at home with Covid and these were my exact symptoms before I decided to do a test (except I was craving pickled beetroot).

Good luck OP, whatever the result!

Danikm151 · 21/10/2022 12:58

Unlikely but possible!

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 21/10/2022 12:59

Friend of a friend got pregnant at 51 (which is also my age) and now has a toddler. She already has a 30 year old son.

She really didn't think she needed to use contraception with a younger partner, but she obviously did!

Cassavaflower · 21/10/2022 13:00

Hello
I'm in the car on the way to the shops!
I'm sure it's just menopause but need to confirm. I know a healthy pregnancy at my age is extremely unlikely but a baby would feel like a miracle and a blessing

Menopause Is so unpredictable, I'm 51 and haven't had a period for over a year I'm hoping that's me done !

If you do have a period after a year you must get it checked out. Your GP will refer you to be seen on the 2 week pathway.

Christinatherabbit · 21/10/2022 13:10

Have you tested for covid? Sorry if that's an obvious question. I hope whatever the result you are happy with the outcome.
