Placemarking, thanks for the new thread.

It doesn’t matter who is in Downing Street. The technocrats are now in charge.

the80sweregreat · 19/10/2022 09:15

Sky news on Monday after Mr Hunt spoke just shrugged and said ' the markets are in charge '!

Who are the 'technocrats'?

Steven Swinford

What is Liz Truss strategy today at her 3rd, and most pivotal, PMQs?
^^
Expect her to repeat public apology & show contrition
^^
She will also try to give Tory MPs red meat by attacking Labour over strikes

^Whether it buys her time - or hastens her departure - remains to be seen^

1- she can fuck off with her meaningless apologies after thecdamage she's caused

2- Most of the country need a pay rise to cope with the inflation and price hikes she caused. These strikes will be supported by the public so disparaging others for supporting them will only piss off the public more.

Just resign and call an election.

Placemarking thank you for the new thread.

I think technocrats are anyone who doesn't like the words "Gamble" & "Budget" strung together.
Suspect they also listen to podcasts, use taxis, and eat tofu. You know the type.

the80sweregreat · 19/10/2022 09:32

I find it odd that the mantra is ' aspiration nation , higher wages , get that promotion ' type narrative, but if your in the public sector or a normal civil servant , it's very hard to earn more as wages have been stagnant for so long
Especially in the NHs

DowningStreetParty · 19/10/2022 09:34

Kellie I hope you were kidding- it massively matters who is in charge and they definitely aren’t all the same. I’m desperately hoping for an election so everyone can make the choices they want of political party instead of this unelected disaster capitalist shitshow.

It must be wonderful to be able to hold two completely opposite views in the same brain. What a skill to have.

Boris managed to become PM despite being dishonest, totally incompetent, lazy and unsuited to the job, by getting his journalist mates to call him ‘future PM’ every time they wrote about him. They gave him a credibility he lacked which took him all the way to the top, where he destroyed our economy, alienated all of our allies and got thousands of people killed by covid who’d otherwise have survived. He was so bad he looked like a Putin plot to destroy Britain.

Now I see in so many media outlets discussion of whether he might come back and I see it having the same effect: normalising an otherwise unthinkable idea. No other PM had done the job again, why do we have to have back the most corrupt incompetent one? Can’t we at least have Tony Blair or John Major?! Both intelligent highly competent men with integrity.

OP I am so cross with you for promoting this idea and calling such an incompetent a flattering nickname like ‘Big Dog’. Why can’t you let him fade into the obscurity he deserves??!

Oh no. Someone who clearly hasn't read the previous 16 threads is cross with me. How will I ever sleep again?

Don't forget Ms Truss's mathematical brain.
(The one that lost shedloads of money on the markets!)

newnamethanks · 19/10/2022 10:18

@ChocFrog Untrained, ungovernable, sheds hair everywhere, ruins the sofa, humps anything in sight. What's your problem?

Notonthestairs · 19/10/2022 10:42

This is from 2019. It would be fascinating to see it updated.

🚨NEW @OpiniumResearch Conservative members poll🚨

If the Conservative leadership election were rerun today, 64% of would vote for Rishi Sunak, while 36% would back Liz Truss.

But bloody late now.

Notonthestairs · 19/10/2022 10:59

Interesting manoeuvres-

NEW. It never rains it pours. Just sent this from source. Message form deputy chief whip. The motion on fracking “is a confidence motion in the govt”
Hard three line whip. All slips withdrawn

Here's what a Conservative MP had to say about a new bill that could limit the right to protest -- it may surprise you.

He's not wrong.

Notonthestairs · 19/10/2022 11:12

Prevailing view among MPs - including potential contenders for the crown - is that Liz Truss should stay until Halloween to avoid any more upheaval in the markets. But from 1st Nov - All Saints Day - she still runs the high risk of being sent off to a political cloud in the sky.

Notonthestairs · 19/10/2022 11:16

Number 10 have firmly placed MPs between a rock & a hard place by making the fracking vote a confidence vote. In key areas Labour apparently have adverts ready to go.

Thatsasmashingblouseyouvegoton · 19/10/2022 11:17

...

DuncinToffee · 19/10/2022 11:17

Reminder: Boris Johnson is reportedly in the Caribbean. Tobias Elwood lost the whip for missing a 3-line whip.

the80sweregreat · 19/10/2022 11:23

Boris Johnson, working hard for the people of Uxbridge !
I hope they are grateful

Cornettoninja · 19/10/2022 11:26

He’s utterly shameless (BJ). It’s shocking how much he gets away with.

(thanks for the new thread @Fladdermus)

54isanopendoor · 19/10/2022 11:33

the80sweregreat · 18/10/2022 21:47

Boris Johnson would be mad to come back surely ?

3 words: Ego, Ego & Ego.
Churchill 'returned'. So Johnson will, if he gets the chance.
(I wonder if this has been 'the plan' all along tbh)
