He was the second worst PM since 1945 and must not be allowed back to continue where he left off. His constituency party should disown him.

Suggestion for future thread title:

Will Big Dog return to his vomit?

👀Extraordinary moment in the House of Commons💥
^^
@William_Wragg confirms he's sent a letter into Graham Brady - and that he HAS to vote with the government on this afternoon's fracking motion, against his wishes. So that he doesn't lose the whip. And so his letter still stands.

Wragg did well to go on the record with this. Others may well claim at a later date that is why they voted with the Government but won't have anything to back it up.

@DuncinToffee
Truss pulling out of scheduled meetings last minute - is not good optics.
Again.

They must have decided that the optics hiding from journalists was better than putting her in front of journalists.

Interesting manoeuvres-

NEW. It never rains it pours. Just sent this from source. Message form deputy chief whip. The motion on fracking “is a confidence motion in the govt”
Hard three line whip. All slips withdrawn

Has this happened yet?

Notonthestairs · 19/10/2022 15:41

I can't find the timing of the vote.
They are being forced to vote against their own manifesto.

"Tory MPs absolutely incredulous that they're being told they will lose the whip if they don't vote for the fracking motion which breaks the 2019 Tory manifesto.

And I don't get the impression chief whip Wendy Morton has good answers to obvious questions...."

Ah vote at 7pm. Debate starts at 4pm.

Orangesandlemons77 · 19/10/2022 15:44

OK thanks. What a nightmare. Wonder what will happen. Can someone explain to simple me what it means, about it being a vote of no confidence in the gov? Thanks

Notonthestairs · 19/10/2022 15:45

Funny this story should come out now.

Liz Truss used to pretend “minor members” of her family had died to get out of media appearances, one of her former aides has claimed.
Kirsty Buchanan, who was a special adviser to the Prime Minister when she was Justice Secretary, said the fake fatalities included “aunts and cousins and things”.
However Ms Truss eventually ran out of excuses and had to appear on BBC Question Time, where she found herself on a panel with a man she loathed.

Opposition Day debate live now.
Pat CFadden (Lab Wolverhampton) giving absolutely blistering summing up. Worth listening back

L1ttledrummergirl · 19/10/2022 16:00

So what happens to her majority if 100 tory MPs vote against the government and have the whip removed? Does that turn them into the minority?

I hope the MPs vote with their conscience regardless. Although, given how unpopular fracking is it would be another nail in the coffin.

@Orangesandlemons77

So I think the jist of it is -
Labour have tabled a motion to get debate time for a bill to ban fracking.

Conservatives oppose this & will vote no.

Conservatives have chosen to make it a 3 line whip (test of loyalty) ie vote with us or lose the whip.

If the Government fails then it could be said that they no longer retain the confidence of their party/Legislature and can not govern.

No idea whether they'd have to resign or a formal no confidence vote required.

If you lose the Whip you are no longer within your party, lose their patronage and can't participate in internal matters (like sending in your letter to the 1922).

imho it takes a particularly special type of vacuous arsehole to use family bereavements to get out of work. I’ve worked with a couple.

I don’t like to be an armchair psychologist but it’s bordering on sociopathy imho. Would explain a lot about her.

What does "all slips removed" mean please?

I quite like ‘big dog returns, like herpes’

L1ttledrummergirl · 19/10/2022 16:11

We've just watched PMq. Ds2 had his head in his hands, aghast, dh actually muttered at the TV and he doesn't normally engage. I had to sit with my hands over my mouth to keep from shouting.

That was dire. Do we have a triple lock or not? Which one of them has lied to parliament? How do we trust a government who's members constantly lie .

Everytime she opens her mouth she makes things worse.

Pairing slips. So one MPs non attendance can be cancelled out by an opposition MP also not attending.

mibbelucieachwell · 19/10/2022 16:18

Ohhh.
Thank you.

Braverman gone.

Notonthestairs · 19/10/2022 16:33

I was not expecting that.

In instructions of Hunt apparently.

Yes he really is just in charge of the financial aspect of government
