Didn't Truss have Hunt and family to roast lunch this last weekend at Chequers? We're Mr and Mrs Johnson and offspring also there? How would that work? All tucking in together or in separate wings? Surely he's been turfed out?

He did the same when he was sacked as Foreign Secretary. Refused to move out of the grace and favour mansion that came with the job. Civil servants were in a panic as to how to get him out.

You guys are kidding right? How the duck can that disgraced former PM now back bencher legitimately go anywhere near Chequers unless Truss the actual PM, invites him?

thank you for new thread.

I totaly agree with your post Tobee. Truss has caused billions to be added to national debt by her absolute failure to listen to anyone with economic experience and failure to apply real world thinking to her Tory Dream policies.
Her only apology was for driving us off a financial cliff towards national ruination ‘too far too fast’ she’s not actually said she thought it was the wrong policy in the first place.
She’s very dangerous with no mandate for any of this disastrous financial messing about from outside of her party. It’s corrupt behaviour. As we all keep saying, we desperately need a general election.

Notonthestairs · 19/10/2022 07:44

James Cleverly told Times radio the fundamentals of the budget were correct and - questions based on hindsight were "unfair".

So they are rowing back...

countrygirl99 · 19/10/2022 07:48

Who had a parent who said this?

TokyoSushi · 19/10/2022 07:52

I don't think that Johnson is there, at the moment at least. Apparently he's on holiday in the Caribbean and making a lucrative speech somewhere in the US.

Imagine having him as your constituency MP, you might as well not have one!

TokyoSushi · 19/10/2022 07:55

This is an interesting and quite plausible theory. Go on Liz, call a GE, that'll show them!

The Brady meetings are interesting. I wouldn't be surprised if she's trapped - essentially hoisted by her own petard.

Great title.

Very halloween inspired Halloween Wink

itsgettingweird · 19/10/2022 08:11

I just think the fact the Tory's are blaming everyone but Larry the cat for their disastrous decisions speaks all the volumes we need to read.

Notonthestairs · 19/10/2022 08:11

Labour will today use an opposition day debate to force a vote on the immediate publication of the OBR forecasts - rather than waiting another fortnight - as well as government documents on how much a further energy windfall tax could raise

Oooof.

📈 Inflation is 10.1%, BUT

🍲 food inflation has hit 14.6% - THE HIGHEST IN 42 YEARS

10.1% inflation - don’t the rail companies use this quarter for fare increase?

I keep praying that like the 30s/70s and whenever else there’s been turbulent times, that at some point it just stops and stabilises.

ChocFrog · 19/10/2022 08:20

Boris managed to become PM despite being dishonest, totally incompetent, lazy and unsuited to the job, by getting his journalist mates to call him ‘future PM’ every time they wrote about him. They gave him a credibility he lacked which took him all the way to the top, where he destroyed our economy, alienated all of our allies and got thousands of people killed by covid who’d otherwise have survived. He was so bad he looked like a Putin plot to destroy Britain.

Now I see in so many media outlets discussion of whether he might come back and I see it having the same effect: normalising an otherwise unthinkable idea. No other PM had done the job again, why do we have to have back the most corrupt incompetent one? Can’t we at least have Tony Blair or John Major?! Both intelligent highly competent men with integrity.

OP I am so cross with you for promoting this idea and calling such an incompetent a flattering nickname like ‘Big Dog’. Why can’t you let him fade into the obscurity he deserves??!

Notonthestairs · 19/10/2022 08:24

I think they delayed rail increases til March 2023 and said they wouldn't rise as far as inflation. No idea whether they'll keep that commitment though.

L1ttledrummergirl · 19/10/2022 08:30

@ChocFrog, if you read the previous threads you would understand the reference.
Big Dog on these threads is a piss take. Calling him that did a massive disservice to dogs who deserve much better respect.

It wasn't us who gave him the nickname, I guess we'd have gone with Big dickhead or something along those lines.

DuncinToffee · 19/10/2022 08:34

Thanks Fladdermus

From the media rounds it seem we have entered the 'move on' phase.

DuncinToffee · 19/10/2022 08:36

Operation 'save big dog' was coined by the Tories themselves, we certainly aren't using it in a flattering way.

Agree we are on the 'move on' stage.

Anyone hear Cleverly on the Today programme? I missed it but apparently he had to listen to what he had said 2 weeks ago. There was much squirming.

Lonelycrab · 19/10/2022 08:45

Thanks for the new thread @Fladdermus

Steven Swinford

What is Liz Truss strategy today at her 3rd, and most pivotal, PMQs?
^^
Expect her to repeat public apology & show contrition
^^
She will also try to give Tory MPs red meat by attacking Labour over strikes

^Whether it buys her time - or hastens her departure - remains to be seen^

I must say that it was an entirely successful operation.

DuncinToffee · 19/10/2022 08:58

Cleverly thinks carefully about what he says? Really, how can one be that deluded?

Notonthestairs · 19/10/2022 09:05

Thanks Duncin. There really wasn't a good answer for the Government. They are hoping the electorate have collective amnesia about the mini budget.
