At least with Strictly, the public gets to vote.

Spot on.

TomPinch · 22/10/2022 21:50

The loons on Guido Fawkes are 😭😭😭about Badenoch declaring support for Sunak. Very satisfying. She was their darling during the last leadership election. Now they're all pretending that they thought she was useless all along.

Bunch of twats.

Still no sign of Bojo the Clown getting his hundred. He is stuck on 74.

Yes jgw correct but many predicted we wouldn't get one after brexit you see, but we did. A success no?

Honestly the brexit threads were full of folk stockpiling everything!

Come on.

The reality is that Johnson achieved very little.

Northern Ireland & the Good Friday Agreement meant there was only two possible ways this could play out.

The first being that the UK stayed in the Single Market and became a rule taker from the EU (making Brexit pointless). The second, a trade border in the Irish Sea.

Theresa May concluded a deal with the EU that kicked the Northern Irish issue down the road but ultimately dealt with the issue by the UK becoming a rule taker. Parliament rejected that.

All Johnson did was pivot to the other option and sell out the Unionists in Northern Ireland. That's literally all he did.

🤣🤣🤣

Sorry, I should not have said Strictly is moronic, I know loads of people enjoy it, and there is precious little to enjoy right now.

Notonthestairs · 22/10/2022 22:42

A well-placed source tells me it's likely Boris Johnson could climb down as early as this evening

Don't forget that Boris' oven ready deal is such a good deal that members of his government were desperately trying to break it.

ClaudineClare · 23/10/2022 08:41

Sunak and Johnson in talks apparently. I can't see Johnson agreeing to play second fiddle.

TomPinch · 23/10/2022 08:47

Surely Johnson is angling for a position in a government led by Sunak. From Sunak's perspective, better to have him in the tent pissing out.

Sunak looks like being the only person likely to get 100 nominations.

DuncinToffee · 23/10/2022 08:47

Steve Baker wants to make Johnson party chairman.......

Yes, Johnson as chairman would be a good look for the Tories! What a daft idea.

ClaudineClare · 23/10/2022 09:00

But as Tom says, the Tories don't want him outside the tent, so are scrabbling around for ways to prevent that. It is ridiculous that they have to appease him in this way.

Igotjelly · 23/10/2022 09:10

Maybe he’ll go back to affable idiot foreign secretary 😭

OMG that's actually a real possibility as they seem to think he's Ukraines answer to ousting Putin and Ukraine love him.

I don’t really understand why this is a problem tbh. On the face of it, BJ pushed to the outside edges is a good thing. Let him go on his way and bluster away without any real power.

Cornettoninja · 23/10/2022 09:41

I was impressed by Penny Mordaunt on Laura Kurnssberg. In terms of understanding her audience she’s got that down.

DuncinToffee · 23/10/2022 10:02

Zahawi of the heated stables is backing Johson as he is now a changed man Confused

Mordaunt has no policies

What a circus

DuncinToffee · 23/10/2022 10:05

Sunak is suspiciously quiet

Cornettoninja · 23/10/2022 10:06

Mordaunt has no policies

On LK this morning she was talking a lot about the 2019 mandate they won. I didn’t vote for them but it’s something to recognise that massive sweeping changes that nobody voted for without debate is a ‘bad thing’. It’s quite refreshing to listen to a Tory talking less like a regent in waiting.

DuncinToffee · 23/10/2022 10:11

Steven Swinford

Surreal thing about this contest is that nobody is talking about the extraordinary choices that will face whoever wins on DAY ONE in the job
^^
Two candidates have yet to declare at all
^^
How they will balance the books - & what choices they will make - will affect millions

Notonthestairs · 23/10/2022 10:11

Will Mordaunt have had access to any of the OBR forecasts? I'm wondering if she doesn't want to announce policies and then discover how bad the situation really is and start u turning?

I woke up this morning just sick and tired of the whole lot of them.

The country is facing terrible pressures- some self inflicted, some global - and all the Conservatives can offer is infighting, secret bloody votes & changing alliances.

DuncinToffee · 23/10/2022 10:14

Mordaunt talks the talk but that is it, the 2019 mandate has already been reversed on so many things, it is meaningless.

Notonthestairs · 23/10/2022 10:20

Well she is correct in that all she has to offer to MPs and members is not be Johnson or Sunak.

Cornettoninja · 23/10/2022 10:28

I'm wondering if she doesn't want to announce policies and then discover how bad the situation really is and start u turning?

and this (imveryho of course) is half of the problem. On some level we all know how bad it is and any attempt to divert or soften it just feels like we’re being lied to.

Cornettoninja · 23/10/2022 10:31

DuncinToffee · 23/10/2022 10:14

For sure, plus the landscape has changed massively since then and has to be managed as it is and will be.

DuncinToffee · 23/10/2022 10:34

Sunak officially declares he is standing.
