Starting this at 980 on the other thread because it's late and I might miss the tipping point. We're moving fast at the moment, thanks all for the analysis, insight and company

Lloyd Austen and Shoigu have spoken again. Something is afoot for these 2 to be speaking again so soon, no?

Greenshake · 23/10/2022 19:11

Apparently The Kremlin is trying to say that the West/Kyiv are prepping a dirty bomb

I hope so. I hope it is good but who knows. These talks are publicly known so it must be with Putin's blessing.

Igotjelly · 23/10/2022 19:13

I doubt it’s good…..

I can’t work out if it’s just the usual Russian batshittery, whether they actually believe it or whether they’re planning a false flag dirty bomb .

Greenshake · 23/10/2022 19:16

Or some combination of all of the above. Reuters are covering it.

Igotjelly · 23/10/2022 19:16

Not sure if it was linked before but formal readout of Wallace and Shoigu’s call. Interesting it was at Russia’s request.

Bill Browder AT Billbrowder
Russia's Defence Minister Shoigu warns that “Ukraine will use a dirty bomb” in the conflict. Translation: Russia will use a dirty bomb on its own people, blame it on Ukraine and then retaliate with nukes. God help us if this goes that way.

Greenshake · 23/10/2022 19:59

The only positives to be drawn from this are (i) that it is out in the open, which seems to have been instrumental in stopping previous false flag operations and (iI) that the respective Defence Ministers are discussing it.

Absolutely agree about the openness. Shoigu seeking out and speaking to a number of Western counterparts seems almost as if it’s a genuinely held belief that Ukraine will use a dirty bomb.

So Sunak it is, any thoughts on what this will mean for Ukraine?

Greenshake · 23/10/2022 21:14

I wonder what’s really gone on there.

MagicFox · 23/10/2022 21:30

I think Sunak will continue in the same vein re Ukraine, no reason to think otherwise yet. I'm relieved Johnson is out. The markets didn't react well to news of him standing apart from anything else!

A former Ru diplomat says that Putin will sacrifice millions of soldiers to win but that he's been lucky, not smart, and his luck has run out.

Ex-Russian diplomat warns Putin is willing to sacrifice 20 million soldiers to win the war with Ukraine

Larry the cat will no doubt be pleased that Boris is out of the race. 😸
