So, now the funeral will be a public holiday, what will you be doing?

We are in the very fortunate position that a public holiday will not impact us too greatly. Dh has a major project with a deadline on the same day but he is on track. I have a deadline that has also been pushed back but which I was in front for. The DCs are off school (I assume).

I was worried about a medical appointment but my consultant e-mailed this morning (! On a Sunday!) to say that due to a cancellation I can come in the proceeding Thursday for which I am hugely grateful.

I was thinking I might make a nice picnic and go to the Downs near us. We can look over the sea and I will make a proper homemade picnic and the radio to listen to the funeral and take a flask of Pimms and a bottle of champagne and we will toast HM.

Sounds lovely. I think we’ll just have a quiet day at home. I’m lucky as I work Monday to Wednesday. So only a two day week that week.

FindingMeno · 11/09/2022 15:22

Working

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 11/09/2022 15:23

Watching on TV and having a Dubonnet in honour of Her Maj.

(can you still buy Dubonnet?)

Monkeybutt1 · 11/09/2022 15:25

We are going to go on a bike ride

ApolloandDaphne · 11/09/2022 15:25

DH and I plan to have tea and cake whilst watching the funeral.

MajesticElephant · 11/09/2022 15:25

I’ll probably choose to work. My work will take it out of our existing holiday entitlement and I need the days elsewhere to cover childcare (DH will get an extra days holiday).

YourLipsMyLipsApocalypse · 11/09/2022 15:25

Working probably. Wouldn't watch the funeral anyway so really not arsed about a day off when everything is closed anyway.

AuntieMarys · 11/09/2022 15:25

Gym. Long lunch.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 11/09/2022 15:26

Working, I'm a 365 role and can't request leave at short notice even if I wanted to be off.

JaneAustensHeroine · 11/09/2022 15:27

Working.

Working NHS

Iwantacampervan · 11/09/2022 15:28

I'm waiting to see if I'll be working (major retailer) - if we're open then the hours are likely to be shortened which means moving my shifts up and we hope that we'll be getting BH pay.

sleepismyhobby · 11/09/2022 15:28

I'm nightshift Sunday and Monday

KiraKiraHikaru · 11/09/2022 15:28

Working and trying to figure out bloody childcare.

Username917778 · 11/09/2022 15:28

NHS so I'll be working.

CardiffMam · 11/09/2022 15:28

Will most shops be open?

KensingtonStation · 11/09/2022 15:29

Working. Global role that isn't going to tolerate me just having an extra day off for this.

SatInTheCorner · 11/09/2022 15:29

Working. Social services.

teenagetantrums · 11/09/2022 15:29

Working...care home. I would have liked to watch the funeral but the old people still want lunch. According to the manager it's not a ' usual' bank holiday so we won't get the extra pay or an extra days holiday. Joys of minimum wage job

girlmom21 · 11/09/2022 15:29

Annoyingly I had the day booked off for some much needed me-time but now nursery will be closed so I'll be parenting rather than relaxing.

We're thinking park and picnic. Do we know what time the funeral will be?

TotheletterofthelawTHELETTER · 11/09/2022 15:31

I had assumed that retail & most places would close making it like Christmas Day or Easter Sunday rather than a general Bank Hol.

I will be off as will DD. We’ll watch the funeral then go for a long dog walk.

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 11/09/2022 15:32

I plan on watching the funeral all day. Grandma and mum coming over to watch as well. So thought a nice homemade tea to go with it.

Starsnores · 11/09/2022 15:32

My plans are the same, working then going out for an anniversary dinner with my husband.

TeenDivided · 11/09/2022 15:32

Watching the funeral on TV.
