So, now the funeral will be a public holiday, what will you be doing?

We are in the very fortunate position that a public holiday will not impact us too greatly. Dh has a major project with a deadline on the same day but he is on track. I have a deadline that has also been pushed back but which I was in front for. The DCs are off school (I assume).

I was worried about a medical appointment but my consultant e-mailed this morning (! On a Sunday!) to say that due to a cancellation I can come in the proceeding Thursday for which I am hugely grateful.

I was thinking I might make a nice picnic and go to the Downs near us. We can look over the sea and I will make a proper homemade picnic and the radio to listen to the funeral and take a flask of Pimms and a bottle of champagne and we will toast HM.

I'm assuming all schools will close rather than can? If so I'll be off work. Ds not starting uni course until first week of October anyway and doesn't work Mondays.

I'm assuming his swim training will be cancelled so that's no 4am alarm either!

My sister works a GP surgery so I'm assuming they'll also shut - if not I'll have my nephew (or at least offer!).

Other than that I have no plans. I'll wait and see what the forecast is and what's open or not. I will watch the funeral because as people have said it's a historic event.

I work in share dealing, the stock market will be closed and I will find out this week if we get day off

Vampirethriller · 11/09/2022 15:36

Working.

rnsaslkih · 11/09/2022 15:36

Catching up on work at home.

museumum · 11/09/2022 15:37

Schools across a lot of Scotland we’re already off that Monday for our September holiday so we’ll be on our way home after a planned weekend away.

Coffeaddict · 11/09/2022 15:37

Potty training my 2 year old. Was going to try this weekend but a 3 day weekend would be better for it.

DH and I plan to have tea and cake whilst watching the funeral.

Love this. So English. We will be at home - maybe go swimming and have a nice lunch.

FruitPastilleNut · 11/09/2022 15:38

Hoping to find a theme park that remains open so we can go and benefit from shorter queues.

IceStationZebra · 11/09/2022 15:39

Working - and DH has a family funeral that day already.

Snowiscold · 11/09/2022 15:40

Working - extra busy. Media.

Sparklingbrook · 11/09/2022 15:41

Anything but watching the funeral. Must be a good day to do something but not sure what.

Whateverfuckingnext · 11/09/2022 15:41

@SatInTheCorner do you work for a Local Authority, surely it won't be a working day? Or are you EDT or similar?

Hedgesfullofbirds · 11/09/2022 15:42

Was due to start a new job that day! Start date now postponed until 29th so will make the most of the extra day - gardening, messing about with my bees or, if the weather is not quite right for beekeeping, will go and spend the day beach fishing

KezzabellaB · 11/09/2022 15:42

I'll be on my holidays in Cornwall. Bit sad that I'll miss watching it on TV as I do like the pomp and ceremony of it all but won't be staying in while I'm away. Will probably go to a beach if it's nice, take a picnic and raise a glass to HM.

Yeahrepublic · 11/09/2022 15:42

We'll either do all day drinking on Sunday then be very hungover or Monday or we'll go out. We'll take a picnic in case everywhere is closed.

Angelofthenortheast · 11/09/2022 15:43

I'm a freelancer for public sector with a now cancelled work day, so I'll just be sat at home working out how to make up the £150 I'm losing 😫

Positivelypatient · 11/09/2022 15:43

Trying to find our way out of London after moving DD to university on Sunday. We are not looking forward to navigating Central London and the likely road closures.

Hedgesfullofbirds · 11/09/2022 15:43

New job starting on 20th not 29th!

EL8888 · 11/09/2022 15:44

@MrsDanversGlidesAgain you can still buy Dubonnet

I will most likely still be dying of morning sickness. So will probably be slumped in my bed

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 11/09/2022 15:44

Waiting to see whether we will get the day off. We normally get bank holidays but the extra day will be difficult to manage and I suspect that if we get the day off we will end up effectively having to make up the time.

Assuming that I am off probably will have a quiet day recovering from a busy weekend.

stopitleaveitgetdown · 11/09/2022 15:44

Be happy that it's one less day of school run and watch the the funeral I guess

Figgygal · 11/09/2022 15:44

I will watch the funeral or at least some of it the relentless coverage and talking heads is already wearing.

The time off is being given for that purpose after all so I'd like to think places like theme parks would be shut and not using it as an excuse to line their pockets

CharlotteSt · 11/09/2022 15:45

Watching the funeral with a friend. She's coming over early and we will have bacon butties while we critique admire the guests and the ladies' frocks. Friend is bringing cake and we will have coronation chicken sandwiches too. I will be buying a very large box of tissues as we're a sentimental pair. DH and her DP will no doubt do a lot of eyerolling.

Dipsydoodlenoodle · 11/09/2022 15:46

I'm on maternity leave, however, we are going to be on holiday - just in the lake district. Planned last September.

If I were at home I'd watch (at least some of) the funeral. Being away well be out and about and catch up later.

dudsville · 11/09/2022 15:47

I'll watch some of it. I'll be glad of the day off. I might bake something.
