So, now the funeral will be a public holiday, what will you be doing?

We are in the very fortunate position that a public holiday will not impact us too greatly. Dh has a major project with a deadline on the same day but he is on track. I have a deadline that has also been pushed back but which I was in front for. The DCs are off school (I assume).

I was worried about a medical appointment but my consultant e-mailed this morning (! On a Sunday!) to say that due to a cancellation I can come in the proceeding Thursday for which I am hugely grateful.

I was thinking I might make a nice picnic and go to the Downs near us. We can look over the sea and I will make a proper homemade picnic and the radio to listen to the funeral and take a flask of Pimms and a bottle of champagne and we will toast HM.

Marking the Masters dissertations that come in this week.

Kualma · 11/09/2022 16:06

I’m on holiday! I had a trip booked prior to this

strugglingmum82 · 11/09/2022 16:09

Working - busy service station.

Hopefully it won't be too busy

Ffsmakeitstop · 11/09/2022 16:09

Working in a shop because folk can't get their arse in gear to make sure they don't run out of stuff.
Fortunately for me I'm not bothered about watching a stranger's funeral. Shame for those that want to though.

TicTac80 · 11/09/2022 16:10

Working - NHS. Hopefully some of my patients will have their TV sets out to the funeral so we can get a glimpse of what’s happening!

Lansonmaid · 11/09/2022 16:10

I think I'll watch the funeral and then take the dogs for a nice long walk. Might have a cream tea in the afternoon if I get round to making some scones.

Always4Brenner · 11/09/2022 16:12

0h decided nice tea with sandwiches bits so will get that first thing from co op.

TenoringBehind · 11/09/2022 16:12

Ringing bells before the service at local church

something nice in the afternoon tbd (walk with friends?)
Pilates class in the evening

not a bank holiday for dh who although here that day is based overseas.

speakingofart · 11/09/2022 16:13

Relaxing on a sun lounger in the Balearics!

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 11/09/2022 16:14

Working at the food bank as I usually do on Mondays.

autumn1610 · 11/09/2022 16:16

currently on holiday so have no idea what is happening with my work. I’ll work if i have to take it out of my AL. It’s very sad for her family but I’m not going to watch it. If work is closed I’ll probably catch up on holiday washing and do some diy

WalkingOnSonshine · 11/09/2022 16:16

I’ll be watching it & probably do a little afternoon tea or something.

Assuming DS will be off nursery so Aussie DH will probably do most of the running around & putting him down for his nap while the funeral is on.

Surtsey · 11/09/2022 16:17

I'd already booked that week off work to do a load of gardening and a bit of a clearout in the house, so instead of using 5 days' holiday it will now only be 4. I expect I will watch at least some of the funeral on telly.

bringbackveronicamars · 11/09/2022 16:17

In a school, so will probably have a nice lie in and then go on a bike ride.

ihatesoaps · 11/09/2022 16:18

I'll be working
Wish I wasn't but I can't get the day off

Watching on TV and having a Dubonnet in honour of Her Maj.

(can you still buy Dubonnet?)

Helen on Saturday Kitchen made a gin & dubonnet drink yesterday! I fancied it tbh!

loulouljh · 11/09/2022 16:19

Self-employed. working.

RandomMess · 11/09/2022 16:19

I'm due to be in London visiting various friends 🤦🏼‍♀️ not going to be quite the weekend I had planned.

PortalooSunset · 11/09/2022 16:20

Monday is my day off so mostly I'll be complaining about having to share the house with other people assuming school/college are shut!

Matildahoney · 11/09/2022 16:20

No idea whether our office will close or not, I hope so, but they don't have to! I want to watch the funeral though.

gatehouseoffleet · 11/09/2022 16:21

I might work even though I'll get the day off. Nothing else to do - even if I watch the funeral, it won't last all day. Such a pain such a short time after the last pointless bank holiday.

going out for an anniversary dinner with my husband

It's my wedding anniversary too but I had assumed restaurants will be forced to close by the virtue signallers.

escapingthecity · 11/09/2022 16:22

Have asked some friends over to watch the funeral. I'll make some nice cakes and use my jubilee commemorative teapot

Topseyt123 · 11/09/2022 16:23

I'll watch it on TV.

missingeu · 11/09/2022 16:26

Working NHS

If the weather is good, day at the beach with DC.

If it isn't, getting the waterproofs out and going down to woods for a walk.

And commiserating with an economy which can ill-afford another day off following all the imposed time-out we've had over the past couple of years. Not to mention the large gaps in our children's education. It still defies belief that after all this, and with winter poverty being a real prospect in so many households, a misguided country has just spent four days straight (and a huge amount of money) in an ostentatious celebration of hereditary privilege.

But as it's being imposed on us, might as well use it positively.
