So, now the funeral will be a public holiday, what will you be doing?

We are in the very fortunate position that a public holiday will not impact us too greatly. Dh has a major project with a deadline on the same day but he is on track. I have a deadline that has also been pushed back but which I was in front for. The DCs are off school (I assume).

I was worried about a medical appointment but my consultant e-mailed this morning (! On a Sunday!) to say that due to a cancellation I can come in the proceeding Thursday for which I am hugely grateful.

I was thinking I might make a nice picnic and go to the Downs near us. We can look over the sea and I will make a proper homemade picnic and the radio to listen to the funeral and take a flask of Pimms and a bottle of champagne and we will toast HM.

@PerfectlyPreservedQuagaarWarrior no perhaps i don't actually feel proud. Hadn't thought about the wording. Not sure how to describe it as while i do not support having a monarchy, I have respect that she has carried out her role, met with prime ministers, works leaders etc, long before women took up positions of power. Not an obvious feminist, but her role feels significant, and she certainly held her own.

BBQ with friends

Is there a chance the shop will be closed completely for the day? Like Christmas Day?

Unfortunately I don't think they will without being made to shut. I feel I am getting very cynical the older I get but I really do think they will put profit first. (It is one of the big supermarkets).

Going to sort the house out a bit. Just tidy and go through crap in draws that kind of thing.

Metabigot · 11/09/2022 21:42

I'm going to try and sell online anything I can books clothes etc and make a few bob

familyissues12345 · 11/09/2022 22:40

I'm off anyway as it's my day off, so I'll be watching the funeral

DS2 will be having the day off school

DH should be off but as he works from home most of the week I imagine he'll dip in and out of work most of the day

Feetache · 11/09/2022 23:22

Civil service job so I assume we'll all be off. Kids will be off so maybe a day out if weather decent

charabang · 11/09/2022 23:36

I'm anticipating being granted the day off. I will have to reschedule a couple of vivas but hey ho. Will definitely be watching the funeral.

I might work even though I'll get the day off. Nothing else to do - even if I watch the funeral, it won't last all day. Such a pain such a short time after the last pointless bank holiday.

going out for an anniversary dinner with my husband

It's my wedding anniversary too but I had assumed restaurants will be forced to close by the virtue signallers.

I've had an email from the restaurant to say that they are closing during the day but opening at 5pm so our anniversary dinner is saved.

Ironically, we are only able to go out because of the funeral, if it hadn't been declared a bank holiday I was due to be working a late shift and would be home too late.

DistantShipSmokeOnTheHorizon · 15/09/2022 17:47

NHS, working also.

IncompleteSenten · 15/09/2022 17:52

Thank you. :)

Best laid plans and all that. I am now mostly working. I contacted the 5 clients I am meant to be meeting that day and some postponed and others wished to continue so now I will do that. DH and the Dcs will potter game and in the evening our local pub is staying open so we might head for that.

Tea and toast and watch the whole ceremony.

RoseyLentil · 15/09/2022 18:07

Working. Local Council Smile

SommerTen · 15/09/2022 18:15

Got a podiatrist appointment before the funeral starts.. guess he's not a royalist!

I may watch some of the funeral but not too much as I will find it depressing,, may go for a walk.

Benjispruce4 · 15/09/2022 18:19

Anything that avoids TV and radio. A picnic sounds lovely if weather good. We were thinking of a day at the coast. Bonus day off for us.

1994girl · 15/09/2022 18:40

Chilling and not watching the funeral.

GnomeDePlume · 16/09/2022 10:56

Cider making this weekend. We already have about 40 pints on the go from windfalls. This weekend we will do the big pick and see what we end up with.

garlictwist · 16/09/2022 10:57

I'm working as is DH. Will be just like another Monday.

Got any spare, I need some cider for my pork belly roast this Sunday?

Jasmine5552 · 16/09/2022 13:23

I will be at work that day.

ChipsRoastOrBoiled · 16/09/2022 13:28

I'll be watching on telly, from start to finish, just like I do with televised royal weddings.
