So, now the funeral will be a public holiday, what will you be doing?

We are in the very fortunate position that a public holiday will not impact us too greatly. Dh has a major project with a deadline on the same day but he is on track. I have a deadline that has also been pushed back but which I was in front for. The DCs are off school (I assume).

I was worried about a medical appointment but my consultant e-mailed this morning (! On a Sunday!) to say that due to a cancellation I can come in the proceeding Thursday for which I am hugely grateful.

I was thinking I might make a nice picnic and go to the Downs near us. We can look over the sea and I will make a proper homemade picnic and the radio to listen to the funeral and take a flask of Pimms and a bottle of champagne and we will toast HM.

I’ll be watching the funeral and spending most of it applying for a new job. My DP’s have DD on a Monday, BH or not, so I will definitely make the most of having the day alone to get some applications done

gogohmm · 11/09/2022 16:28

Got to work - we are opening for private prayer plus will have 2 services

Astronaut1298 · 11/09/2022 16:29

I'll be working - logistics, so we dont get bank holidays off

Flossie2shoes · 11/09/2022 16:29

Me and partner out for a picnic ride on our quarter horses. Not much roadwork, but the roads will be quiet. Mostly riding over lovely countryside with chill out stops for us and our horses. I'm sure the Queen would approve.
If the weather is bad we'll have a relaxed day, but we won't be in front of the telly. Maybe some music, I might paint. We'll watch highlights when it's all over.

WaddleAway · 11/09/2022 16:30

Mondays are my day off anyway and DH works for a bank so will be off. Can’t see my 3 young kids being interested in spending the day at home watching a funeral, especially the autistic 4 year old so we’ll head out for the day somewhere. Maybe a long walk and a picnic. Would go to the seaside if we were closer.

BellePeppa · 11/09/2022 16:30

I’ll be watching the tv. RF Weddings and funerals are always on my watchlist.

Funkyslippers · 11/09/2022 16:31

We'll be travelling up north on the Sunday to drop off DD1 at uni 😥. Staying the night and travelling home on the day of the funeral. I'd taken a day off in lieu but that won't be needed now as no doubt my work will be closed. DD2 , who's coming with me, is very put out that everyone else will be off school too instead of just her so she said "it's so unfair, can I have Tuesday off as well?"

Simonjt · 11/09/2022 16:31

We might take the opportunity to go away for a long weekend, I don’t work Fridays so we could go away straight after school. On the Monday we were meant to be at the embassy to get our daughters Swedish ID number, but that of course has been cancelled. When we booked it in May it was the nearest appointment, so I’m really hoping it doesn’t take another three months to get one.

Bloodybridget · 11/09/2022 16:32

It will be our first day in our own home for over two weeks, we'll be doing laundry, sorting ourselves out, checking out the garden and watching the Queen's funeral.

Pixiedust1234 · 11/09/2022 16:35

My family will be working. Never have bank holidays off. One never has boxing day off. Retail and public transport.

dubyalass · 11/09/2022 16:36

Civil servant so will get the day off but actually it’s our busiest time at work and I could really do with being in the office!

I will probably do some sewing and go for a swim. And watch a bit of proceedings but I’m not doing the whole day.

blackheartsgirl · 11/09/2022 16:36

Working. Our factory won’t close, either that or it will be taken off our annual leave.. I don’t have any holidays left so I’ll be going in

PalePurplePumpkin · 11/09/2022 16:37

I'll be on holiday in Spain.

Blanketpolicy · 11/09/2022 16:38

Working. Global role that isn't going to tolerate me just having an extra day off for this.

Global role here too, but our company and all global colleagues have been respectful of the UK protocols for such a large one off event. It would be a poor show for any reputable company not to respect significant events occurring in any country.

I will be having a lie in, weather depending a nice long dog walk, then I've got a few things I want to do around the house but haven't had time for. I'll probably catch some highlights via the online news feed now and again, but won't be watching the whole thing.

BatteryPoweredMammy · 11/09/2022 16:38

Usual routine. DS will be at school and I’ll be food shopping in the morning inc. quick coffee in a cafe then home to tidy and make dinner.
I rarely watch tv in daytime so might catch highlights on iPad later.

WantToWorkAnonymously · 11/09/2022 16:40

Working - carer in a care home.

Kids at home on their own - old enough to leave thankfully.

MouseOfDragons · 11/09/2022 16:41

Im working (district nurse in the NHS) but I’m
hoping to get morning done visits done early so I can nip home to watch the funeral with DS and my mum before I go back out and finish off my
visits

Helen on Saturday Kitchen made a gin & dubonnet drink yesterday! I fancied it tbh!

I love a gin and It! Not the done thing, but it's also very nice with a splash of tonic, takes a bit of the sweetness out of the vermouth.

If the pubs are open, friend and I will go to one that we know doesn't have a tv and get pissed. If not, we'll get pissed at my place. Can't get too pissed though as I have work in the morning and actually have to drive somewhere.

PalePurplePumpkin · 11/09/2022 16:37

I'll be on holiday in Spain.

Sounds great. Wish I was going to be out of the country too! Have a sangria for me.

Frazzled2207 · 11/09/2022 16:44

I don’t work Mondays anyway. Expect to be at home with my school age kids watching the funeral in the morning. Hopefully we can do something nice in the afternoon. Wondering if cinemas might be open.

emmathedilemma · 11/09/2022 16:44

Don’t know if we’ll get the day off yet but I’m on holiday anyway 🤗

DeclansAFeckingDream · 11/09/2022 16:44

I'll be watching it.

YfenniChristie · 11/09/2022 16:45

I'm on mat leave. I'm assuming the baby class I go to on Mondays will be cancelled. We don't have a TV so will either try to watch the funeral online or will head out for a walk. Depends on DS's mood and the weather.

DH will be working, probably. I can't see his boss giving them the day off (he took the Jubilee bank holiday out of their holiday allowance, and DH has no holiday allowance left).

TokyoTen · 11/09/2022 16:47

My mum is in a home, I'll probably go and watch the funeral with her on TV and I know she wants to watch it.

mondaytosunday · 11/09/2022 16:48

I'll watch some of the funeral broadcast. My daughter will probably catch up on schoolwork. My son might have to work.
