So, now the funeral will be a public holiday, what will you be doing?

We are in the very fortunate position that a public holiday will not impact us too greatly. Dh has a major project with a deadline on the same day but he is on track. I have a deadline that has also been pushed back but which I was in front for. The DCs are off school (I assume).

I was worried about a medical appointment but my consultant e-mailed this morning (! On a Sunday!) to say that due to a cancellation I can come in the proceeding Thursday for which I am hugely grateful.

I was thinking I might make a nice picnic and go to the Downs near us. We can look over the sea and I will make a proper homemade picnic and the radio to listen to the funeral and take a flask of Pimms and a bottle of champagne and we will toast HM.

I will be watching the days events, and I've ordered afternoon tea for us all to celebrate her life. The kids are quite excited and are asking if we can invite Paddington Grin

Darbs76 · 11/09/2022 15:49

I’ll be going into london for the funeral. Maybe won’t get close to it but hoping to be there for the atmosphere / pay respects

nancyglancey · 11/09/2022 15:49

We'll take the opportunity to visit grandparents about two hours away.

DillonPanthersTexas · 11/09/2022 15:51

Will get out in my boat with a bottle of wine and a book.

mynameisnotkate · 11/09/2022 15:51

It won’t make much difference to us in Edinburgh - it’s our September holiday that day and the schools are closed anyway. The kids are annoyed that they’re about the only ones in the UK not getting an extra holiday. I guess we’ll spend more of it in front of the telly than we would have.

ScampiFlies · 11/09/2022 15:52

Possibly working, if so my DC will have to come too.

FunsizedandFabulous · 11/09/2022 15:53

Working, zone 3 tube station.

Lanesdown · 11/09/2022 15:55

Work will close. So obviously watching the funeral with my DCs. I personally wouldn't want to do anything else. It seems incredibly inappropriate to do anything jolly or fun.

Whyarewehardofthinking · 11/09/2022 15:55

Working; SLT in a large secondary. This had been my first week back and has been over 70 hours. I've already banked on it to catch up on some things that I've missed this week dealing with safeguarding issue after safeguarding issue.

RockAndRollerskate · 11/09/2022 15:56

DH & I likely to be off due to our jobs and the DC will be off nursery. I’ll be figuring out how to entertain them on a budget! I’d like to watch the funeral but the baby and toddler aren’t too fussed on tv!

Hallowbat · 11/09/2022 15:56

Watching the funeral on television

Annoyingly I had the day booked off for some much needed me-time but now nursery will be closed so I'll be parenting rather than relaxing.

We're thinking park and picnic. Do we know what time the funeral will be?

11am

DomesticBlisters · 11/09/2022 15:56

Our son (8) has planned that we're going to have an afternoon tea while we watch. He's even written a menu.

Neither child eats much so imagine the adults will be eating most of it 😂

girlmom21 · 11/09/2022 15:57

Thank you @mysparkleismissing.
I assumed 11 but thought it was worth checking Smile

Kite22 · 11/09/2022 15:58

I'll watch the days proceedings, probably whilst catching up with admin on my laptop.

Nidan2Sandan · 11/09/2022 15:59

I have an assignment due in so will work on that, and I have some studying to do for another exam I have so actually grateful the day off as otherwise I'd be working my usual busy job.

Pinkglittery · 11/09/2022 16:00

Trying to entertain my toddler while getting some bits of work done and being pissed off I'm paying nursery for the pleasure of doing so.

GlitterB0mb · 11/09/2022 16:01

Having a lie in.

Oh I love this. :) It looks very similar to my menu.

no shopping that day just lazy day.

tobee · 11/09/2022 16:03

Depends what mood I'm in. Not a royalist. But interested in history. So... not sure. There's a good chance I'll be sleeping.

Love this. So English. We will be at home - maybe go swimming and have a nice lunch.

We aren't English though, we are Scottish!

LaMariposa · 11/09/2022 16:04

I’m planning on taking the children out on a long walk somewhere. Husband will either come with us, or do one of the hundreds of DIY tasks pending.

DontKeepTheFaith · 11/09/2022 16:04

Possibly working, unless it is paid as an extra bank holiday, I won’t be using my usual annual leave entitlement to absorb what would be a very sombre day off.

I will try to catch some of the funeral while working.

Devo1818 · 11/09/2022 16:05

We are going out for the day on Sunday and have a busy Saturday so I think Monday will be a duvet day. Afternoon tea is a nice idea. Will watch the funeral for as long as DC let me. I'm very grateful for the day off - work is intense atm.
