Just the thought of it creates butterflies in my stomach as when she died I was really young and it hurt a lot...even though I didn't understand what really happened. I'm sad the queen has died but just the thought of princess diana becoming queen...it would have been amazing.

They were divorced before she died. Even if she was still alive, she wouldn't be Queen.

Potato28 · 10/09/2022 00:50

But they werent together

Buffypaws · 10/09/2022 00:50

Yeah she’d have been mrs Al fayed

She wouldn’t have been, as she would be divorced.
if I had wings and a horn and was a horse I’d be a unicorn and could fly about sprinkling stardust on everyone.
But as it happens I’m a 40 year old woman drinking tea in bed when I should be asleep! So……….

Aquamarine1029 · 10/09/2022 00:54

FGS, Charles and Diana were divorced before she died. She never would have been Queen, even if she were still alive.

Precipice · 10/09/2022 00:55

What would have been amazing about it, even if they hadn't divorced and she had lived?

FartOutLoudDay · 10/09/2022 00:56

Christ. Retreating back off MN for another 24 hours until sanity prevails.

FrankTheThunderbird · 10/09/2022 00:58

She wouldn't have been though. They'd been divorced since 1996 and separated since 1992.

Snowiscold · 10/09/2022 00:59

She would never have been Queen-as, one, they were divorced and, two, she was dead. She’d have been no better or worse Queen than anyone else.

Maltester71 · 10/09/2022 01:04

I think what the OP is saying, is that, had things been different, then Diana would have been queen.

and that would have been lovely.

i agree

wackamole · 10/09/2022 01:04

It's also amazing that Camilla is Queen, though. Or Queen Consort, or whatever she is. Wallis Simpson was born fifty years too early!

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 10/09/2022 01:07

You said yourself you were really young, so probably didn't see the situation as you would have done if a bit older.
. I'm just a bit younger than Diana. I didn't dislike her or Charles but my goodness they were an ill matched pair, and it seems that neither of them were angels.
Had she lived she wouldn't have been queen as they were no longer together and hopefully she'd have found a love match in the way that Charles and Camilla seem to have done.

They are people just like the rest of us at the end of the day. Too much romanticising whilst overlooking the facts I think

Maltester71 · 10/09/2022 01:09

Regardless, she would have been a lovely queen

BeautifulWar · 10/09/2022 01:10

Give over.

Panpastels · 10/09/2022 01:11

'Christ. Retreating back off MN for another 24 hours until sanity prevails'

Might be a while yet Confused

Maltester71 · 10/09/2022 01:11

Which bit?

i think it’s natural to reflect.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 10/09/2022 01:12

That's as maybe, who knows, but the OP said 'Lady Di would have been queen'

But the heir's ex-wife wouldn't be queen would she?

Levellingdown · 10/09/2022 01:14

Wtf that makes no sense. She wouldn’t have been queen as divorced. She’d also have been a shit Queen as she only married for fame/ money and there was no love in that marriage.

heartbroken22 · 10/09/2022 01:18

Thanks @Maltester71 yes that's what I meant.

But she split from Charles 30 years ago, & the one thing beyond dispute seems to be that the pair of them were bitterly unhappy together.

If Diana were to be alive today, I'd hope that she would be thoroughly enjoying her 60s, & wherever her life had taken her after an ill-fated early marriage. Who knows - an interesting career, maybe a second marriage, more kids?

Probably safe to say that she wouldn't be jamming on a tiara & a smile alongside KC3.

If things had been different, Edward would have been allowed to marry Wallis Simpson without having to abdicate, so Elizabeth wouldn't have been queen anyway and the whole Diana question a moot point.

Maltester71 · 10/09/2022 01:33

But actually she would.

because they never had children

Stop talking out of your a*se and do some research 🙄.

VivienneDelacroix · 10/09/2022 01:37

If things were different I could have been Queen.
I would be an amazing queen.
In fact I am closer to being Queen than Diana, as I am alive and she is dead.

Diana would have been a terrible Queen. Yes she'd have been glamorous and sparkly. She'd have held babies and visited hospitals, but the role of a consort is to step out of the limelight and steadily support the monarch in a low-key yet reliable way. Diana would have been dreadful at that. Camilla, however, is exactly the right kind of pragmatic, quietly supportive, and gracious partner.

I'd abolish the monarchy tomorrow, but if we have to have one more monarch, I'm glad it's Charles with Camilla and not Charles with Diana.
