Just the thought of it creates butterflies in my stomach as when she died I was really young and it hurt a lot...even though I didn't understand what really happened. I'm sad the queen has died but just the thought of princess diana becoming queen...it would have been amazing.

Obviously the OP means if they had not divorced and if she were still alive 🙄and yes I think its sad that Diana's destiny did not end in her being Queen Consort.

Some of you need to calm down and stop always looking for a fight. It's obvious what OP means.

Why do you think it's sad when she really didn't like being in the monarchy and following its rules?

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 10/09/2022 07:44

Even if he married her it was unlikely she would have had children, so yes the Crown would have passed to the Queen.

You are of right, of course,
but I think history might have been different. We'll never know, obviously, but my thinking was that if they'd been allowed to marry there may have been children. Even if not, the queen may not have come to the throne until Edward's death, by which time Charles was a young adult and I suspect he'd have had a very different life growing up second in line to the throne rather than first, and possibly would have married Camilla in the first place.

That was my logic but constitutionally you and the other PP who pointed this out are absolutely correct.

*It my aunty had a dick, she'd be my uncle.

Just amazing. The thought gives me butterflies etc.*

😂😂😂😂😂😂

Bretonbear · 10/09/2022 07:50

Well 'she was with the angles' 😀 a long time ago so never was going to happen

vera99 · 10/09/2022 07:52

Had Cromwell not been such a tyrant and killjoy then we may have had a Republic now having passed over the centuries from a dictatorship protectorate through to democratic bodies and been one of the first countries in the world to have gone from the inheritance principle to democratic accountability. I can but dream......

The statue of Cromwell outside of Parliament his sword raised towards the Palace reminds the monarch that they are there for the sufferance or joy of the "people". One thing the late Queen fully understood was her family was "The Firm" and they must be relevant and liked or we will get rid of them.

Diana would have been a terrible queen. I view her and Meghan as almost the same type of person. Harry has basically married his mother...

I've thought this.

BeautifulWar · 10/09/2022 08:04

Had Katherine of Aragon's sons lived, there would have been a whole different line of succession, or Richard III won at Bosworth - how far are we taking this nonsense?

PileofLogs · 10/09/2022 08:04

had things been different, then Diana would have been queen.

Had things been different, my Auntie June would have been queen. But they weren't 😂

I think Camilla will make a great queen- I really like her. Am warming to Charles too.

vera99 · 10/09/2022 08:05

Thanks ! I think the Queen's seeming happiness at the end was that of a woman believing in God and a job well done and leaving knowing that she left her own world and The Firm a better place than she found it. One could wonder with Camilla looking so old now (she hasn't exactly looked after herself with all her smoking and drinking apparently ) that Charles could do a year or two and then retire to give Kate and William a clear run as youthful monarchs. Bit like the 2 (now) 3 Popes a thing unthinkable a generation ago.

BlueThursday · 10/09/2022 07:20

I actually don’t think she was.

I think when the Government clocked their nazi sympathies it was a very convenient way to get rid of them both. Which I’m grateful for

Agree with this. There's no comparison between the D&D of Windsor and Charles and Camilla.

RoarrrrrrringFurMiniBeast · 10/09/2022 08:07

Diana would have been a terrible Queen. Yes she'd have been glamorous and sparkly. She'd have held babies and visited hospitals, but the role of a consort is to step out of the limelight and steadily support the monarch in a low-key yet reliable way. Diana would have been dreadful at that. Camilla, however, is exactly the right kind of pragmatic, quietly supportive, and gracious partner.

I agree with this. Long live Queen Camilla.

SueSaid · 10/09/2022 08:08

'One could wonder with Camilla looking so old now (she hasn't exactly looked after herself with all her smoking and drinking apparently )'

🙄

She looks lovely, what an ageist horrible comment. What's more she comes across as a very nice person.

But her destiny wasn't queen consort. Not in reality.

Yes - in theory the arranged marriage made it her destiny. But her affairs, Charles affairs and his true lobe for Camilla meant it stopped being her destiny when they divorced,

Her death was some years after their separation and after their divorce.

Her destiny at her death was not queen consort or anything royal at all.

Maltester71 · 10/09/2022 01:04

I think what the OP is saying, is that, had things been different, then Diana would have been queen.

and that would have been lovely.

i agree

Me too. A whole different world.

LimeCheesecake · 10/09/2022 08:15

As others have said, they’d already divorced at her death. Camila was already being presented as his partner, Diana had been dating that surgeon for ages and Dodo was a rebound fling that probably wouldn’t have lasted, but she’d not have stayed single for long.

she was only in her 30s, she may have had more children.

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 10/09/2022 08:17

Topseyt123 · 10/09/2022 03:27

Exactly this. They were hardly a match made in heaven and the marriage should never have happened.

This mawkish idolisation of Diana needs to stop. The marriage, which was pretty much forced anyway, was disastrous. Thankfully, they divorced, meaning that she would not be Queen (Consort).

Charles and Camilla are a far better match than Charles and Diana ever were. Camilla will be a great Queen Consort.

The stuff I've seen on Facebook is ridiculously over the top. Diana was a perfect angel, Camilla is a slapper, that sort of thing.

They're just people and nobody's perfect.

vera99 · 10/09/2022 08:17

When in 2035 President Meghan comes on a State Visit to the Uk with her First Man, Harry King Willam and Queen Katherine will have to bury the hatchet! I suspect the 2 brothers will be having a meeting without wives at the sides somewhere to see if peace can be brokered.

Spudlet · 10/09/2022 08:20

If Edward viii hadn’t abdicated and had married Wallis, we’d have had a pair of Nazi sympathisers on the throne… the abdication crisis was partly engineered to manoeuvre a totally unsuitable person off the throne. The man actively passed information about the Allies to the Nazis during the war - he was as dodgy as they come! And she had a picture of Ribbentrop up in the house for years, even during the war, as she considered him a ‘friend’. If anyone is interested there’s a book called ‘Traitor King’ which is fascinating, or the British Scandal podcast covered it recently. They would have been pretty disastrous as monarchs.

Camilla is someone who had an affair, which is wrong, but they’ve been married for 17 years which is longer than Charles and Diana were and seem happy. She is not an actual Nazi and comparing her to one (as a pp did) is a bit much. Diana and Charles should never have married, and if in some parallel universe she was a. Alive and b. Still married to Charles, I think she’d be pretty miserable to be becoming queen as that would mean she’d spent her entire adult life in an unhappy marriage. And he’d be pretty miserable too.

Wonnle · 10/09/2022 08:20

If the ex queens uncle hadn't quit she wouldn't have been queen anyways

“It hurt a lot”… why, did you know her?
It makes no difference to me which over privileged rich aristo sits on those cushioned thrones worrying about nothing more than clothes, and I doubt it makes much difference to you either.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 10/09/2022 01:21

If things had been different, Edward would have been allowed to marry Wallis Simpson without having to abdicate, so Elizabeth wouldn't have been queen anyway and the whole Diana question a moot point.

Presumably she would as they didn’t have children.

Oh yes she would! In 1972.
