Lady di would have been queen...

Just the thought of it creates butterflies in my stomach as when she died I was really young and it hurt a lot...even though I didn't understand what really happened. I'm sad the queen has died but just the thought of princess diana becoming queen...it would have been amazing.

Doesn't affect the question but she had bulimia not anorexia, both eating disorders but quite different.

I was a fan of Diana but also appreciate that her and Charles were not at all suited and I can't imagine the role of Queen Consort would have been one she would have enjoyed even if she was alive and still married

Miacarla · 10/09/2022 04:14

Don't be so silly. They divorced decades ago. If my auntie had balls she'd be my uncle. Don't be so naive and childish. MN has gone properly mental today!

She was enormously rich so more like expensive wigs and the best false teeth money can buy. Diamond-encrusted cane, full-service beauty team.

She would have been queen consort, a role that really wouldn’t have suited her well given that it requires subservience to the King. Charles and Diana just weren’t a good match on any level and he was wrong to marry her imo.

Anon778833 · 10/09/2022 04:23

She had bulimia, not anorexia.

Anon778833 · 10/09/2022 04:25

Yes Camilla and Charles understand each other which is why they’ve been together, officially or otherwise for most of their lives.

daisychain01 · 10/09/2022 04:38

Lady Di Grin Grin Grin

eldora · 10/09/2022 05:02

I think people are being deliberately obtuse, OP, I got what you were saying.

I’m a republican but I think Diana was the epitome of a princess, and would have been a wonderful queen.

Charles and Camilla are a sour faced couple at the best of times.

William and Kate as as dull as dishwater compared to Diana’s radiance.

centralsunnypark · 10/09/2022 05:13

Would have been amazing had her bodyguard insisted she wore a seatbelt.

GetThatHelmetOn · 10/09/2022 05:14

I don’t think it would have been “lovely” sorry. There is nothing lovely about staying in a shit marriage for the sake of her children, the status or the money.

No woman will survive being cheated on an off and ignored constantly by her husband for 30 years without becoming more bitter than lovely.

I respect that she had the courage to walk away from a situation that made her unhappy. Her death was an accident in her plans but I think had she lived, she would have continued to be happy doing whatever she pleased.

MrsMontyD · 10/09/2022 05:35

If today's performance outside the palace is anything to go by Camilla will continue to keep as discreet and low a profile as possible, which in my opinion is the best approach given the history, and then she'll do fine.

If Charles and Diana had remained married somehow they'd have been effectively separated and living separate lives, how would that have worked ??

lickenchugget · 10/09/2022 05:36

She was divorced. She would be nothing to do with the RF if she was still alive. It’s so odd how she still inspires such craziness

Unexpecteddrivinginstructor · 10/09/2022 05:47

I just think it is sad that just over 40 years ago people so central to British culture (whether you approve of the monarchy or not look at how much changes with the monarch) were essentially in an arranged marriage. She was only just out of her teenage years, had this been a MN thread about a 19yr old engaged to a 31yr old because their parents wanted them to get married we would all have been saying YABU to marry him. He was under pressure from more senior royals to find a suitable wife because Camilla was not aristocratic enough, had previous boyfriends and then was married.

I know that some arranged marriages can work and love marriages don't always end happily, but at least now the royal family seem to have a little more freedom.

if I had wings and a horn and was a horse I’d be a unicorn and could fly about sprinkling stardust on everyone

Grin Grin

Like it!! sounds fun. I might be a unicorn as well - if that's okay.

Imsupertangirl · 10/09/2022 00:53

She wouldn’t have been, as she would be divorced.
if I had wings and a horn and was a horse I’d be a unicorn and could fly about sprinkling stardust on everyone.
But as it happens I’m a 40 year old woman drinking tea in bed when I should be asleep! So……….

🤣🤣🤣

As an aside the smile that passed King Charles lips when he mentioned Camilla was amazing. Pure deep love.
When he looked so utterly broken over the death of his mum.

If things were different I could have been Queen.
I would be an amazing queen.
In fact I am closer to being Queen than Diana, as I am alive and she is dead.

Diana would have been a terrible Queen. Yes she'd have been glamorous and sparkly. She'd have held babies and visited hospitals, but the role of a consort is to step out of the limelight and steadily support the monarch in a low-key yet reliable way. Diana would have been dreadful at that. Camilla, however, is exactly the right kind of pragmatic, quietly supportive, and gracious partner.

I'd abolish the monarchy tomorrow, but if we have to have one more monarch, I'm glad it's Charles with Camilla and not Charles with Diana.

Totally agree with it all (except abolishing the monarchy).

I'm glad there's others that also feel she's have made a terrible Queen.

I loved her as we were meant to in my childhood (I was 17 when she died) but adulthood and time have allowed me (and others it seems) to actually take in and digest the truth if the situation without the media bias spin driving that.

They were I'll matched. Charles has always loved camilla and it shows. He still loves her dearly.

Everyone should be allowed to marry for love and I personally think the Queens own total love for Prince Philip drive her decision in this.

Joshanddonna · 10/09/2022 06:03

She was in a car driven by a man who was drunk and she didn’t wear a seatbelt. Ultimately not wearing a seatbelt killed her. Had she lived she wouldn’t have been queen. I think she would have married again and been happy. And ultimately friends with Charles.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 10/09/2022 06:04

theywere divroced
she died 25 years ago
you cant change history

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 10/09/2022 06:05

Oh for crying out loud, they divorced before she was dead. She wouldn't ever be queen. I doubt she'd have been an amazing queen either, even if they had stayed together. People really need to get over it. They both had affairs, his just lasted. You can clearly see the affection he has for Camilla when he mentions her.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 10/09/2022 06:07

he has been married to camilla for 17 years

Christ. Retreating back off MN for another 24 hours until sanity prevails.

😂😂

MrsLargeEmbodied · 10/09/2022 06:10

so it seems that diana is popular because she was pretty
and wore nice dresses

you are a bit shallow

What a vile post. Honestly, are people incapable of pausing before spewing out bile like this.

Sirzy · 10/09/2022 06:20

Being married to Camilla will make Charles a much better king than if he has still been married to Diana. He has matured (for want of a better word) since he has been married to her and their love is obviously a very pure love.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 10/09/2022 06:22

Maltester71 · 10/09/2022 01:04

I think what the OP is saying, is that, had things been different, then Diana would have been queen.

and that would have been lovely.

i agree

Lovely for who? Diana hated being a royal! Why do people think she'd have wanted to be queen?
