Lady di would have been queen...

Just the thought of it creates butterflies in my stomach as when she died I was really young and it hurt a lot...even though I didn't understand what really happened. I'm sad the queen has died but just the thought of princess diana becoming queen...it would have been amazing.

I think King Charles attempted to forestall this type of maudlin speculation/bitterness by explicitly reminding us that he did marry Camilla 17 years ago. It was definitely a "did you see what he did there" moment.

I was very impressed at how he will take no shit when it comes to his wife. Sign of a good man.

Ifeelsuchafool · 10/09/2022 08:25

I am older than Diana would be, were she still with us. For those saying that she would be useless because she courted the limelight, nothing could be more wrong.

Not for nothing was she dubbed "shy Di" by the world's press when the relationship was first announced. She hated being in the limelight and Charles deeply resented her for the fact that she was lovely and genuinely empathetic and a crowd magnet, whether she wanted to be or not.
I am pretty certain that she genuinely thought that she was in love with Charles when they married. He knew he was not in love with her but liked her well enough to believe that they could make a go of it if she behaved according to royal tradition and turned a blind eye to his mistress, who he knew he was still besotted with.
She was a virgin child of 19 when she was led down that aisle at St Paul's like a lamb to the slaughter and he was a man of 31. I wish he'd had half the backbone he appears to have now. As for Camilla, she is not blameless in all this but the palace should have allowed the relationship and not been stuffy about the fact that she'd had other boyfriends leading to her jumping into the marital ring with Parker Bowles before Charles was hitched.

One can hardly blame her, she's certainly not so well endowed in the looks department as was Diana and so her window of maximum opportunity in the marriage market was likely smaller than most.

It's all a horrible mess, I am now a firm republican. Elizabeth was the last of the old guard and I don't consider any of the new guard fit to clean her shoes quite frankly so I personally think it's time for the monarchy to be dismantled.

She wouldn’t have been, as she would be divorced.
if I had wings and a horn and was a horse I’d be a unicorn and could fly about sprinkling stardust on everyone.
But as it happens I’m a 40 year old woman drinking tea in bed when I should be asleep! So……….

I think people forget the whole fiasco that was their marriage and the situation that followed. It wasn't a happy situation at all and she wasn't the paragon that some people think they remember.

Exactly

Had Katherine of Aragon's sons lived, there would have been a whole different line of succession, or Richard III won at Bosworth - how far are we taking this nonsense?

Had Harold won the Battle of Hastings we would have had....someone else on the throne...don't ask me who, I just wanted to join in the fun.

so it seems that diana is popular because she was pretty
and wore nice dresses

you are a bit shallow

There's some very malicious comments here yours included.

I don't know about shallow but you sound jealous and bitter to be Frank.

Welshrarebitontoast · 10/09/2022 08:32

25 years since she died.

Will this madness never end?

GyozaGuiting · 10/09/2022 08:34

It’s interesting how the Americans get their royal info from the crown and they seem to dislike Charles because of it, thinking it’s a documentary. To be fair the whole situation is sad, they shouldn’t have got married in the first place.
I think she would have made a great Queen, I think Camilla will be great too.

Hiphophippityskip1 · 10/09/2022 08:34

Take off your rose tinted glasses and go back in time and read all about her. Yes she was treated horribly but she was no saint. No way would she have been Queen. She was shagging about and would have left the RF and married al Fayed. There was never a chance she and Charles would have reconciled and been King and Queen. I do t know why people have rewritten history and think she was so perfect???

Taytocrisps · 10/09/2022 08:35

The tragedy isn't that Diana will never be queen. The tragedy is that she entered into a very unsuitable marriage at a very young age and was so unhappy for such a long time in that marriage. She lived most of her adult life in the public eye and was only 36 when she died in a car crash. She never had the opportunity to move on from that marriage and mature and forge a life for herself. She didn't get to see her two sons grow up, get married and have children of their own. She developed an eating disorder and mental health issues. I wonder what her life would have been like if she'd never met Charles and married some unknown (to us) aristocrat.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 10/09/2022 08:36

ooh @Day20
are you not shallow?
you loved princess diana because ?

EarringsandLipstick · 10/09/2022 08:37

She was a virgin child of 19 when she was led down that aisle at St Paul's like a lamb to the slaughter

Dear God. Would it be possible to dial down the drama about a long-ago event & a now long-dead woman?

Namedifferentorquestion · 10/09/2022 08:38

Oh dear the Lady Di is a goddess brigade are out

She wouldn't have been queen - she was divorced from him.

She had just ended a long ish for her relationship with Hasnat Khan only a month before she died. Dodi had only popped up on the scene towards the last weeks of her life. He was engaged to another woman model Kelly Fisher who found out by press he had just started a relationship with Di. It was new and who knows where it would or would not have gone. She died. Her family have moved on but oddly random strangers are stuck in romantic what ifs and cannot be realistic at all.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 10/09/2022 08:38

Camilla was extremely pretty when she was young and had a lot of boyfriends. She's now in her 70s and clearly isn't bothered about showing it, whereas Diana would probably have been botoxed up to the wazoo and on her sixth facelift. And probably her sixth husband, as well.

Sirrah · 10/09/2022 08:38

If things had been different, Charles wouldn't have been pressured into marrying a woman he never loved just to provide an heir. Diana would have been left to find the right man, and would have lived a long life. Charles would have been allowed to marry Camilla when he first fell in love with her.

vera99 · 10/09/2022 08:42

I blame the parents...

Namedifferentorquestion · 10/09/2022 08:42

Imagine if Elizabeth 1st produced a child with Raleigh or Drake or anyone then wow all the family would be different ....

Just amazing. The thought gives me butterflies etc. etc. etc. etc.
😂😂😂😂😂😂

This.

Diana died a quarter of a century ago. The continued obsession with her is bizarre.

Personally I think I would find it hard to be jealous of a dead person, but I suppose different minds work in different ways...

And good for Charles for recognising that character is way better than looks for a long lasting and very happy marriage. Queen Camilla all the way, I say.

Bestcatmum · 10/09/2022 08:45

Charles and Diana were the most ill matched couple since me and my first husband. He may have had another woman but she also had a revolving door of lovers. It was a toxic nightmare from hell.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 10/09/2022 08:45

Presumably she would as they didn’t have children.

Yes, but I explained my thinking in a subsequent post.

alwaysdarkestbeforedawn · 10/09/2022 08:46

For her to be Queen today, Charles and Diana would have had to remain in a loveless marriage that made them both deeply miserable for over 40 years. And that gives you butterflies?! Who would it have been amazing for? Certainly not either of them, nor their immediate family.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 10/09/2022 08:47

thank goodness for them both that they divorced.
they were obviously unhappy

Fucking hell, they killed her at the altar of her own wedding?

So that tall lady with the landmines and that wasn't her? Just some sort of look alike?
