Lady di would have been queen...

Just the thought of it creates butterflies in my stomach as when she died I was really young and it hurt a lot...even though I didn't understand what really happened. I'm sad the queen has died but just the thought of princess diana becoming queen...it would have been amazing.

If things were different I could have been Queen.
I would be an amazing queen.
In fact I am closer to being Queen than Diana, as I am alive and she is dead.

Diana would have been a terrible Queen. Yes she'd have been glamorous and sparkly. She'd have held babies and visited hospitals, but the role of a consort is to step out of the limelight and steadily support the monarch in a low-key yet reliable way. Diana would have been dreadful at that. Camilla, however, is exactly the right kind of pragmatic, quietly supportive, and gracious partner.

I'd abolish the monarchy tomorrow, but if we have to have one more monarch, I'm glad it's Charles with Camilla and not Charles with Diana.

👏Agreed on all points.

Tubs11 · 10/09/2022 06:41

It's hard to say if Diana would have made a good Queen or not. Yes, she was stunning but she was a very damaged and vulnerable lady and I'm not so sure with the wisdom of age she'd have matured enough to take a more diplomatic role. I think Camilla will be a great Queen Consort

I don’t think it would have been “lovely” sorry. There is nothing lovely about staying in a shit marriage for the sake of her children, the status or the money.

No woman will survive being cheated on an off and ignored constantly by her husband for 30 years without becoming more bitter than lovely.

I respect that she had the courage to walk away from a situation that made her unhappy. Her death was an accident in her plans but I think had she lived, she would have continued to be happy doing whatever she pleased.

Come on. She was no angel. She also had affairs. It was a terrible marriage from start to finish and I'm glad common sense eventually prevailed and they were able to divorce.

I think people are being deliberately obtuse, OP, I got what you were saying.

I’m a republican but I think Diana was the epitome of a princess, and would have been a wonderful queen.

Charles and Camilla are a sour faced couple at the best of times.

William and Kate as as dull as dishwater compared to Diana’s radiance.

Whereas I'm the epitome of a constitutional monarchist and I think she would have been an abysmal Queen Consort.

DillDanding · 10/09/2022 06:54

If Diana hadn’t died, we’d have Queen Camilla regardless. They were divorced and Charles would still have married the woman he actually loved. I think Camilla will be a great queen.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 10/09/2022 06:54

Since we are considering 'what if' questions.
If Charles had died younger than 33, he'd have had no children.
We'd now have King Andrew 😮

And she continued to shag around after the divorce with no thought to the consequences of her actions (will Carling anyone?)

@VivienneDelacroix I completely agree. She would have been a terrible queen. For all the reasons you state. She died 25 years ago. Let's leave her there. The new Queen consort will be good.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 10/09/2022 07:08

But she was miserable and had a terrible time as Princess of Wales....

If things had been different, I would have been queen. And that would be lovely.

The same could literally be said for anyone

WaveyHair · 10/09/2022 07:13

Diana would have been a terrible queen. I view her and Meghan as almost the same type of person. Harry has basically married his mother...

Sparklythings1 · 10/09/2022 07:16

I know what you mean. I thought that about Kate getting her title and thought how strange it will be to hear that name again but relating to someone else. I wasn’t sure they’d ever use it again

It's also amazing that Camilla is Queen, though. Or Queen Consort, or whatever she is. Wallis Simpson was born fifty years too early!

I actually don’t think she was.

I think when the Government clocked their nazi sympathies it was a very convenient way to get rid of them both. Which I’m grateful for

Christ. Retreating back off MN for another 24 hours until sanity prevails.

Only 24hours? Confused

MissMarpleRocks · 10/09/2022 07:24

Diana would have made a lousy Queen. She was too attention seeking.

I’m a couple of years younger than she was & I knew it was an arranged marriage. It was obvious to anyone with half a brain that it wasn’t love.

Saw it with my parents, cousins, inlaws who all had arranged marriages. My arranged marriage was a few years later. If Diana didn’t know it was an arranged marriage then her family are at fault for not telling her.

maddiemookins16mum · 10/09/2022 07:24

YABU for using Lady Di in your heading for one thing, she stopped being Lady Di on the 29th July 1981.

This is how I read it.
And it had crossed my mind.
But Camilla is good for him.
Long live the King.

It my aunty had a dick, she'd be my uncle.

Just amazing. The thought gives me butterflies etc.

They were divorced so she wouldn’t have been queen.

She hated palace life so would have hated being a queen.

Charles has been married to Camilla longer than he was married to Diana.

Notarealmum · 10/09/2022 07:34

Drama Queen maybe….Queen consort, nah!

upinaballoon · 10/09/2022 07:35

Joshanddonna · 10/09/2022 06:03

She was in a car driven by a man who was drunk and she didn’t wear a seatbelt. Ultimately not wearing a seatbelt killed her. Had she lived she wouldn’t have been queen. I think she would have married again and been happy. And ultimately friends with Charles.

Yes. Good post.

Summersdreaming · 10/09/2022 07:35

The idea of a woman who divorced Charles before she died two decades ago being Queen is giving you butterflies, in 2022? That's just fucking bizarre, I'm sorry. Turn the news and social media off, it's turning you into a lunatic.

Yup. If Diana hadn't started sleeping with her bodyguards all would have been different.
