Will it be Continuity Truss or "Socialist" Sunak in charge?

Truss unhinged, did anyone see the video of Kwarteng during the funeral?

Yes. And the minute's silence. Something is wrong.

DuncinToffee · 20/09/2022 21:04

Wrong, the Gove way

Don't worry Boris will be back as Prime Minister in time to save Christmas again.

Piggy excellent Grin

I’m not an economist either and even I know that ‘trickle down’ economics is terrible for all the rest of us.

No, what happened?

The Treasury is refusing to publish a forecast of the UK's economic outlook alongside this Friday's mini-Budget.

I thought the OBR couldn't provide an impact assessment of the energy bill. This report indicates they offered to include it and were rebuffed.

Yes. It was odd.

That is a good description of Truss @itsgettingweird , Cock sure. That is what I couldn't quite put into words earlier today as I was watching her on the Chris Mason interview.
Regarding moving money into society I thought it had to start from all the millions at the bottom spending upwards in droves, so all those business owners and ceo 's could start making their profits. Trouble is we have not got money floating around the masses currently. Time for a Universal basic income discussion?

I'm happy to be an unpopular PM

In other words: look at all the damage I can do until I’m gone😐

Hasn’t anyone explained to her how elections work? And that unpopular PMs don’t survive?

Notonthestairs · 20/09/2022 22:44

The Times reporting plan to cut stamp duty to stimulate growth. This seems to to me that there will be less money for the Treasury? Very obviously I'm not an economist - I'd be happy to read that I'm wrong!

As per my previous query - where is the money coming from for social care plans & NHS backlog? They don't get a mention.

So there will be no Commons announcement from Jacob Rees Mogg tomorrow about the energy bill help for business - just a Beis press release at 9am.

And ... perhaps ... an online video? This was spotted being filmed earlier today in Westminster.

What a lot of people involved.

Scrutiny?

L1ttledrummergirl · 20/09/2022 23:17

Don't be silly. The torys can't cope with scrutiny. It would show the flaws in their crappy plans.
This economic plan will be shit for the country, the gap between rich and poor will grow bigger.

I'm not an economist though.

tobee · 20/09/2022 23:25

Ok so who's told Liz Truss to do this? Who are the coterie who will be benefiting from this?

coterie
noun [ C, + sing/pl verb ]

UK /ˈkəʊ.tər.i/ US /ˈkoʊ.t̬ɚ.i/

a smalll groupp of peoplee* with sharedd interestss, often one that does not wantt* other peoplee* to joinn* them:

From the Cambridge Dictionary

tobee · 20/09/2022 23:26

Hmm interesting copy & paste there ⬆️🤨

borntobequiet · 21/09/2022 01:05

It reads as though that definition was coined by Gollum.

tobee · 21/09/2022 01:10

There's something super glitchy about Mumsnet at the moment. Posts appearing that stop half way through. A post with a quote and then missing the comment after the post.

My copy & paste above makes me look like an idiot AngryGrin

That did certainly feel like a glitch in the matrix. I started questioning my ability to read!

Speaking of which though - very quiet on that western front Wink

L1ttledrummergirl · 21/09/2022 07:56

I'm showing myself a bit here, but Truss always reminds me if Data from star trek. I've started calling her The Android.
The way she moves, the lack of emotion. The only thing missing is the intelligence and ability to learn, it's like a poor copy whose programmer didn't get it quite right so they just regurgitate stuff without thinking it through.

Cornettoninja · 21/09/2022 08:28

That’s a coincidental observation for me L1ttledrummergirl - I’ve recently fallen down a bit of a wormhole around AI, Roko's basilisk and the lesswrong forum. I’m not sure if sticking Truss’s head on it makes it more or less terrifying tbh Grin

DuncinToffee · 21/09/2022 08:41

Liz Truss is facing a potential House of Lords rebellion over proposed legislation to rip up part of the Brexit arrangements for Northern Ireland amid concerns that it gives ministers “dictatorial” powers to pen and pass laws without scrutiny.

DuncinToffee · 21/09/2022 08:44

Jim Pickard

Truss so far:

  • corporation tax cut for business
  • National Insurance cut (will disproportionately help the better-off)
  • lift cap on bankers’ bonuses
  • tax cut for home buyers
  • scrap proposed bans on import of fur and foie gras
  • scrap plans to tackle obesity
  • low-tax zones

You have to wonder who advised Truss that this was a good look.
