Maybe they share a hairdresser

But someone coached her, she wasn't always like this.
Ofcourse she could have used tiktok Grin

The only thing I like about Liz Truss is she speaks clearly. It's a bit stilted sometimes , but she gets across her desire for the rich banker types to be able to make even more money really well. At least there is some clarity there.
Anyone who can't see it is clearly not listening enough or feels her policies might work in their favour.

Don't worry Boris will be back as Prime Minister in time to save Christmas again.

I honestly think there is a back-room pact between Truss & Johnson (& ERM?)

She was desperate enough to be PM to agree a short term place-keeping for BJ.
During this time, she cuts a swathe through peoples rights & Govt accountability.

She will go, probably via a VONC by late spring, after a winter of discontent.
BJ will be reselected by the Tories. & possibly even relected next term.

Meanwhile, IndyRef II will go ahead & Scotland will leave the UK
(speeded up by Truss' baiting of Sturgeon & HMQII demise)
Everyone will be financially worse off & the UK will lose even more £/moral standing.

Short thread from Torsten Bell.

Whats really happening this week? Rishi's being reversed. The substance here is saying the late Chancellor (and PM) raised taxes too much. Once we recognise that you focus on why a Tory PM and Chancellor did announce those tax rises (clue: it wasn’t to kill growth)

News of more strikes to come- more than 2000 London bus drivers will strike in early October. Unite says its members in Arriva’s north London division will launch an open-ended strike on Oct 4th to secure a pay rise of 12% (though that itself is just about within inflation).

More strikes expected in coming weeks on the train network, ports at Felixstowe and Liverpool and Royal Mail staff, among others.

tobee · 21/09/2022 13:58

No I really am an idiot. I told that trickle down economy joke to a group of people on sm and then realised I'd written "only 99% of people will get it"

D'oh.

the80sweregreat · 21/09/2022 14:05

I will now call it ' dribble down ' as it won't even be a trickle I bet

mibbelucieachwell · 21/09/2022 14:52

@tobee Grin

99% of people occasionally mess up the punchline, according to the ONS.

I said the same after her (and only!) PMQs.

Didn't like what she said. But at least it was more than 3 words!

Cornettoninja · 21/09/2022 16:32

That’s not a bad prediction @54isanopendoor.

I get the feeling Truss is a place holder too although I suspect it’s primarily to push through legislation pawned out to donors and it’s debatable there has been much planning past that.

I would like to think BJ is done, but wouldn’t be surprised to see him attempt another bash. I genuinely don’t think he wants the job though, there was a rumour he had floated the idea of resigning in the summer of 22/23 as early as 2019 because he’s not really a grafter, he just wanted the badge.

Blossomtoes · 21/09/2022 16:39

he just wanted the badge

And the pension.

Cornettoninja · 21/09/2022 18:11

Bit of a pointed comment there from the POTUS so soon after visiting. He could have just said that Truss and tories are twats.

Yes he made it very clear what he thinks of her policy. I don't think close trade relations with the US are as a sure thing as she thinks.

Although I doubt they'd refuse to trade if it benefitted them.

It'll be interesting to see if the US use our tax cuts etc to invest more in the UK.

DuncinToffee · 21/09/2022 19:31

Fed raises interest rates by another 0.75%.

DuncinToffee · 21/09/2022 19:33

Trading with the USA will depend a lot on what Truss will do to protect the GFA

Which will be SFA (or worse).

I can't read the whole article but ffs

A flagship government plan to tackle NHS staff shortages has been shelved amid government “uncertainty” and a row with the Treasury over funding.

Senior NHS sources have said the 15-year workforce strategy, announced by Sajid Javid when he was health secretary, and slated for publication this October, is now unlikely to be finalised or published before Christmas.

NEW: Chancellor will announce this week that 120,000 benefit claimants will be asked to take active steps to seek more and better paid work, or face having their benefits reduced.

Hard for govt to contrast with bankers getting increased bonuses, but they’re facing it head first.

💥New: In a (literal) seismic policy shift, the government plans to lift the fracking ban tomorrow by reviewing the level of seismic activity – earthquakes – allowed at sites.

Jacob Rees-Mogg tells BBC Newsnight the current level allowed, ~0.5 on the Richter scale, is 'too low'

I think I understand now why Boris had to go. It wasn't telling the country that they couldn't have birthday parties and then having one. It wasn't not caring that he appointed a sex pest to a senior position. Nope.

It was because he was not doing enough to ensure the break up of the country.

Notonthestairs · 22/09/2022 06:55

Reminds me of the Owen Paterson hoo-ha (how can that be less than a year ago??)

IFS calculates measures included in Friday's mini budget could cost up to £150 billion. No wonder they don't want us to see the assessment.

The IFS report said: “Recent rapid increases in the cost of debt interest highlight the risks of substantially and permanently increasing borrowing and putting debt on an ever-increasing path.”
“There is no miracle cure, and setting plans underpinned by the idea that headline tax cuts will deliver a sustained boost to growth is a gamble, at best,” it added.

And when they take more and better laid work - who are the expecting to do those power paid jobs?

2 years ago they were hailing the lower paid "keyworkers" for keeping the country running through the pandemic.

They are such knobs they have no idea!
