Will it be Continuity Truss or "Socialist" Sunak in charge?

Yes, it doesn't look good

Quite the moment for Liz Truss’s £425k Tory leadership donations to drop…

(Biggest single donation of £100k came from Fitriani Hay, wife of James Hay, a former BP executive with a luxury goods empire.)

I can't believe how sad I feel
I mentioned the Royal children on this thread today ( wasn't being horrible about them) and now this news.

Jason118 · 08/09/2022 15:07

A day off?

the80sweregreat · 08/09/2022 15:12

I've no idea if they will give people a day off or not : I would think not.

I know it's not a popular view on here but there are two types of people who don't work. Those who don't want to and those who can't. Those who can't absolutely deserve our support and help, more than they currently get. Those who don't want to work shouldn't expect to be supported by those who do work.

I would agree.

Those who can't work are generally the chronically sick and the disabled. And they are often least supported and this government has made a hash of send provision in schools.

Echps were a good theory. They don't work in practice and the funding is poor. One of the current cabinet wouldn't even respond to my emails when I needed support getting my LA to follow the law around my ds'.

DuncinToffee · 08/09/2022 08:43

I also hazard a guess that the percentage of people choosing not to work and live on benefits instead is very small.

Agree with this too. And often it's because they've been failed as children.

itsgettingweird · 08/09/2022 16:06

I agree about the smoke and mirrors going and not even pretending to care about the poorest anymore.

I don't like what she's doing but I guess we wanted a PM who told the truth and was transparent.

Anyone get the feeling they are going Labour get in during next GE (more the 2 years freeze) and they'll get it all blamed on Labour again?

I missed Starmer but glad to hear he's coming out and showing his strengths.

RIP Queen Elizabeth II

Omg Johnson's massive long statement.

ITS NOT ABOUT YOU!!!

A life well lived

I think this is the perfect tribute for Queen Elizabeth II.

tobee · 08/09/2022 19:37

A link

DuncinToffee · 08/09/2022 19:42

It must have stung him to see Truss making the statement, which she did well.

the80sweregreat · 08/09/2022 19:45

Oh well, if Boris Johnson hadn't thrown it away he would have been at the Jenga lecturn today
Such is life.
He will be at the funeral. It'll be huge

Blossomtoes · 08/09/2022 19:49

Very sad in this house. Life will never be the same again.

the80sweregreat · 08/09/2022 20:13

I'm ok!
Thank you !! X

the80sweregreat · 08/09/2022 20:20

I can't understand why I feel so sad
My dad died of covid aged 98 , he loved the Queen so much.
I'm not even a royalist as such myself

Roussette · 08/09/2022 20:24

awww 80s as I said on another thread, a death like this makes us think of the loved ones we lost

Absolutely agree.

I think she's been very poorly lately and she did the country proud turning up to see in the new PM.

Duty til the end.

When I got home from work and heard the news the first thing I thought was "must ring mum".

Still catches me out 3.5 months later Sad
