Will it be Continuity Truss or "Socialist" Sunak in charge?

Well, Truss was supposed to give her speech at 1600. Yet another PM so full of their own importance that they can't even be bothered to turn up on time.

It appears that a huge number of her party aren't bright enough to work an umbrella or again, so full of themselves that they expect someone to do it for them.

So bloody rude.

I was wondering if it's going to be like the beginning of Mary Poppins where the nannys get blown away. But maybe LT can not be Mary Poppins and be blown away too?

I really hope the younger generation who suffered through the covid years from the harsh treatment given to them will consider what having a Tory government means, and what it looks like. Please do vote.
It is up to everyone to try and save what passes for our "Democracy " by continuing to vote and maybe get out and canvass for who you believe in at the next GE.
I do get cross at the engineered ageism because why would people not recognise the fact that in our teens, twenties. , thirties etc our taxes and NI contributions paid for the elder ones above us? It was ever thus.
We didn't benefit from the generous maternity leave. paid early year nursery fees, tax credits, family tax credits, equal work place pensions for women as well as men, so many things that we fought hard for in the work place for twhich people have had the benefit of.

Stop blaming the oldies and have a look at today[s shenanigans which include two Jets, a " Presidential " style motorcade with several vehicles and a shambolic government and then see who you think is at fault.

Notonthestairs · 06/09/2022 17:10

Again it's like they have no idea who has been in power for 12 years.

Exactly what I was thinking. It’s like she’s just won an election after years in opposition. Deluded.

tobee · 06/09/2022 17:14

Has she hit the ground yet?

the80sweregreat · 06/09/2022 17:15

Only upside , Huge o Leary is rather easy on the eyes.
The rest was pretty rubbish tbh

the80sweregreat · 06/09/2022 17:16

Yep, we will rebuild ! Aspiration nation
Remind me , whose been in power for over a decade .. lemme think 🤔
Err ...

Blossomtoes · 06/09/2022 17:24

Thangam Debbonaire sounded far more prime ministerial. I do like that woman.

👍
Can't we swap them around?

DowningStreetParty · 06/09/2022 17:30

I’m know several 70 year olds who are now considered ‘far left’ simply because they want more of the same things for today’s young people that they had- like affordable housing, more social mobility, a fully funded NHS with dental care and prescriptions free, or a free university education. They also want less of the things for today’s young people that older people had to suffer- like casual racism and sexism, lack of maternity rights, lack of abortion and contraception rights, lack of employment rights and unequal pay between men and women.

Elodie09 · 06/09/2022 17:34

@DowningStreetParty Well said. Things should, and could, be better for all.

the80sweregreat · 06/09/2022 17:36

Beth rigby on sky earlier on said that she will take money away from the NHS.
Not sure what she meant though

I'd presume that relates to the intended reversal of the NI rise that was supposed to fund the NHS Covid backlog and social care.

I’ve purposely avoided the news today, I just can’t stomach the unearned smug self congratulating of a bunch of people who’ve sunk this country lower than the titanic.

Then up pops the news alert and it’s Lizzie promising to ‘deliver’ - get a fucking thesaurus. I’m sick of hearing sodding ‘deliver’. Yodel ‘deliver’ it doesn’t mean they’re competent Angry

DuncinToffee · 06/09/2022 17:53

Caroline Lucas isn't impressed

Just ducked out of a meeting to listen to @TrussLiz first speech as PM - 3 mins later I’m back in it again. Is that really the best she can do? She’s had a long car journey to prepare what she was going to say - did she accidentally leave it in the car? #ThatIsADisgrace

Dominic Raab, formerly Deputy Prime Minister, confirms that he is leaving the government and returning to the backbenches.

DuncinToffee · 06/09/2022 18:07

Schapps is returning to the backbenches as well

Of course he is. He obviously didn’t expect to keep his job after describing the election of Truss as the Tories’ suicide note at the next election.

newnamethanks · 06/09/2022 18:07

Has anyone thanked Rishi Sunak? Noticed LT gracelessly ignored him in her victory speech and BJ, more understandably as in major huff with him, also ignored him. Is he completely persona non grata throughout the Party?

DuncinToffee · 06/09/2022 18:20

Steve Barclay gone as well

Roussette · 06/09/2022 18:22

Thangam Debonnaire is brilliant. She is very often on our local politics show on a Sunday. She is measured and intelligent

the80sweregreat · 06/09/2022 18:27

It all felt a bit wet to be honest.
Nothing about anything that people are worried about. I bet they will stitch us up over the gas bills too.
I can't see it going well

DuncinToffee · 06/09/2022 19:04

Quite a statement from Mercer
