Would you go to A&E for this? Bit worried.

To cut a long story short I've been suffering with intense head pressure for nearly two weeks. I wouldn't call it a headache exactly, more like a really bad feeling of pressure, it's been pretty much constant the entire time but not painful enough to stop me from sleeping. I am also getting weird sensations down my left side, tingling and the skin feels weirdly numb. This afternoon one of my eyes has turned a bit bloodshot for no apparent reason.
I've been holding off seeing the GP as I am in the process of switching but the pressure is getting really quite bad now so I don't really know what to do. I really don't want to go to A&E on a Friday to just be bumped around until Monday or to waste anyone's time in case it's something trivial, but the eye thing has freaked me out a bit.

Yes. Do you have high blood pressure?

changingstages · 22/07/2022 14:53

it really doesn't sound like an emergency. Can you call 111 and ask for their advice?

HappyJoyousFree · 22/07/2022 14:53

Can you see if you can get in opticians as an alternative or call 111?

Go to an optician and get your eyes checked today. If they have any concerns they will refer you to ED.

FAQs · 22/07/2022 14:54

Can you get to a Coop or Lloyds for a blood pressure check.

Curlylocks1 · 22/07/2022 14:54

I work in the NHS and tingling sensations along with left arm pain they did take serious. U could always go to an urgent care centre or you could call 111 for advice? It's best to just at least get some medical advice to put your mind at ease x

PragmaticWench · 22/07/2022 14:54

I'd definitely get that checked properly.

teenagerinlove · 22/07/2022 14:54

I would call 111, or your GP, even if you are switching.

Yes. Do you have high blood pressure?

Pre-high when it was last checked and I've been trying to make lifestyle changes. to bring it down.

I'd call 111 and explain everything, they will get you a doctors appointment in your local area.

LizzieSiddal · 22/07/2022 14:56

Yes please get some medical advice, 111 may be your best bet because for the sensations in your arm.

HelloThereObiWan · 22/07/2022 14:56

Ring 111. They'll probably send you to A&E but at least you'll be able to say that when you get there.

Sartre · 22/07/2022 14:56

As others have said, I’d start with the GP if you are still registered with one and 111 if not.

Denny53 · 22/07/2022 14:56

I really really don’t want to frighten you but I had these symptoms. Went to A&E had a CT scan and was diagnosed with a right parietal brain tumour. Please go to A&E

Beebatron · 22/07/2022 14:56

It's in my arm and leg, the leg sensation is worse right now, feels like waves of pins and needles that come and go. Maybe a trapped nerve somewhere?

OP posts:
Beebatron · 22/07/2022 14:58

Will call 111 and see what they say.

Don't try and diagnose yourself. Get medical advice.

Gosh I'm really sorry to hear that. I get quite anxious about this stuff so was really hoping the problem would resolve itself but its just been getting worse.

I had this since a recent covid exposure a couple of months ago, band of pressure round my skull/eyes and neurological issues.

Pushing through it resulted in flashers and floaters in one eye.

I did get an ok from the opticians for that, Boots keep emergency same day slots and they are free.

8 weeks later and I've actually got covid with all the associated headaches and weirdly the existing head pressure is much reduced.

I was reassured that it was relieved by a night's sleep although flared within a few hours of getting up and ibruprofen helped so I'm thinking it's linked to inflammation.

For me I'm confident nothing will show on tests or scans, scary stuff though.

stayathomegardener · 22/07/2022 15:05

I'd start with the opticians rather than A and E.

underneaththeash · 22/07/2022 15:06

i’d ring 111. Can you post a picture of your eye?

Trixiefirecracker · 22/07/2022 15:18

Why do folk wait so long without going to a GP? Ring 111 and ask for proper medical advice, not all this scare mongering and people posing as pseudo-doctors on mumsnet.

inigomontoyahwillcox · 22/07/2022 15:21

I wouldn't bother with the opticians with numbness and tingling. Call 111.

Benjispruce4 · 22/07/2022 15:22

Opticians will pick up pressure behind the eye. Could be separate issues but could be linked. I’d say 111 and optician if they don’t suggest A&E.

LizzieSiddal · 22/07/2022 15:26

Options can’t do anything about the tingling sensations which might be serious and need to be addressed.
