Would you go to A&E for this? Bit worried.

To cut a long story short I've been suffering with intense head pressure for nearly two weeks. I wouldn't call it a headache exactly, more like a really bad feeling of pressure, it's been pretty much constant the entire time but not painful enough to stop me from sleeping. I am also getting weird sensations down my left side, tingling and the skin feels weirdly numb. This afternoon one of my eyes has turned a bit bloodshot for no apparent reason.
I've been holding off seeing the GP as I am in the process of switching but the pressure is getting really quite bad now so I don't really know what to do. I really don't want to go to A&E on a Friday to just be bumped around until Monday or to waste anyone's time in case it's something trivial, but the eye thing has freaked me out a bit.

No, I wouldn’t go to A&E. Was in A&E last night with dc with a complex fracture that required surgery and just the number of people there at 2am clogging things up, having waiting 10 hours, because they cut their finger or had felt a bit poorly for a week was unbelievable. I’ve been awake for 24 hours now and I definitely wouldn’t opt for that if a simple visit with the GP would do.

You don't know they were clogging it up . No one wants to go to a&e but it's difficult to get GP appointments, lots of minor injuries units have reduced hours or shut. 11 and pharmacy staff err on the side of advising A&E. What do you want people to do?

justasmalltownmum · 22/07/2022 22:54

My mum had headaches that were getting worse. She put it down to stress.

She started getting blurry vision. She put it down to age.

She actually had a brain bleed. Get it checked. I wish she did.

bloodyplanes · 22/07/2022 22:56

A relative had these exact symptoms and it was diagnosed as migraines.

Read the full thread, She was sent to A&E, the doctors deemed it serious enough for a scan.
Her symptoms could have been caused by a bleed, inter-cranial pressure, a trapped nerve, a bulging disc, a heart attack.a stroke, anyone of a number other conditions.

Phew. So pleased.

just jumping in to hold your hand as you wait, OP. Keeping all my best thoughts for you while I do.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 22/07/2022 23:14

Thank you for your update.
Blood pressure will be stabilised with medication and it's a blessing in disguise that the nerve pain is unrelated
Rest up and Take it easy if you can

MummyJ36 · 22/07/2022 23:16

Glad you went to A&E OP. As soon as I read your post I thought high blood pressure. My mum had a similar incident a few years ago. Have they discussed blood pressure medication with you? My mum was very against it initially but now she’s on the blood pressure medication its made a huge difference. I definitely support lifestyle changes and I don’t always think medication is the answer but with something like high blood pressure it is good to stay as on top of it as possible and sometimes medication is the best Avenue for this.

lljkk · 22/07/2022 23:27

Thanks 4 update. X fingers the BP goes down soon.

Pending653 · 22/07/2022 23:32

That's great news about the CT being clear.

I admit when I read your opening post the first thing that came to mind for was occipital neuralgia.

I have head pressure constantly during a flare up and it does effect my eyes too, they don't become bloodshot but can get quite painful/strained.

Where abouts is the pain/pressure in your head? If it's at the base of your skull / top of your neck then that's the same as me.

CactusBlossom · 22/07/2022 23:34

Another recommendation for calling NHS 111; they will get a doctor to call you if they consider it necessary. Another option would be to talk to your pharmacist.

StClare101 · 23/07/2022 00:07

No I would not go to A&E to resolve something you’ve put off for weeks. Ridiculous.

Redsquirrel5 · 23/07/2022 02:09

I wish people would read the updates instead of just posting.

Actually it was necessary.

I thought it sounded like blood pressure, which can be very serious. The blood shot eye sounds like it has been very high and glad they did a scan for you and it was clear. I tried to go to my GP and when I called in to see him the receptionist refused to let me despite a racing pulse as well as severe headache and feeling very unwell. This came on within an hour, I left work and had called in on the way. I then had to drive to A&E when I felt really unwell to do so. A&E kept me all night as no beds on a ward and my blood pressure was extremely high. Had a scan too. Two more episodes that week and I am now on medication.
My GP saw the readings and admittance to A&E x3 and when I told him the difficulty the first time he apologised and said he would include it in staff training the next day as it should never have happened.Had I gone home the outcome could have been very different.
I have been a lot better since and just take a capsule at night. I have left my very stressful job too now and feel a lot better so hope you do too OP and you were absolutely right to go to A&E. The GP would have sent you anyway.

I worry about the people that diagnose on here and say no to A&E and they have no medical knowledge/ training.

I hope you improve quickly.

She didn't go for something she'd had for weeks. She went because her symptoms escalated and she was advised to do so by 111.

sunglassesonthetable · 23/07/2022 08:46

Very relieved for you OP. So glad you rang 111

Let's face it they came through for you. And so did A&E . You wouldn't have been dealt with so quickly if your symptoms hadn't been quite so serious.

You obviously need to get you blood pressure down. So onwards and upwards.

🙄 what was ridiculous again?

fib88 · 23/07/2022 17:52

Yes you could be about to have a Bells Palsy (very similar to a stroke) - don’t mess about go get checked x good luck

fatchilli123 · 23/07/2022 18:02

Tingling left arm and pressure in your head please phone 111 this needs addressing now please. They will put you on to a medical professional and get you seen now if they feel it is necessary.

sunglassesonthetable · 23/07/2022 18:05

OP has been to AE and is back home. Just saying.

Kassiopeia · 23/07/2022 18:06

Don't delay, either see a Dr/call 111 or go straight to A&E.

FlatWhiteExtraHot · 23/07/2022 18:15

Why are people so desperate to stick the boot in that they can’t even be arsed to read the OP’s posts? It’s so easy too. You don’t even have to read the whole thread.

RichardOsmansXRaySpecs · 23/07/2022 18:16

Oh for Christ's sake RTFT.

Do posters really think their opinion is the only one that matters? At least just read OP's posts.

I think we should have a punishment for non-rtfters, like a ban for 24hrs 😆

Slv199 · 23/07/2022 18:16

Sounds like IIH (too much fluid on brain) go to A&E and see a neurologist.
