Would you go to A&E for this? Bit worried.

To cut a long story short I've been suffering with intense head pressure for nearly two weeks. I wouldn't call it a headache exactly, more like a really bad feeling of pressure, it's been pretty much constant the entire time but not painful enough to stop me from sleeping. I am also getting weird sensations down my left side, tingling and the skin feels weirdly numb. This afternoon one of my eyes has turned a bit bloodshot for no apparent reason.
I've been holding off seeing the GP as I am in the process of switching but the pressure is getting really quite bad now so I don't really know what to do. I really don't want to go to A&E on a Friday to just be bumped around until Monday or to waste anyone's time in case it's something trivial, but the eye thing has freaked me out a bit.

I get this with “silent migraine” usually due to stress or anxiety so it may not be anything too worrying. However you should call 111 or your GP because you need to rule out other more serious things first.

Benjispruce4 · 22/07/2022 15:30

@LizzieSiddal i know that but tingling can be due to trapped nerves or bulging discs as well as more serious things. The optician might be able to reassure her about the pressure or suggest she goes to A&E.

ginnybag · 22/07/2022 15:32

Contact your GP's surgery, and describe the symptoms. When they, inevitably, can't see you today, go to A&E.

Anything that might be affecting nerve function should be taken seriously, and the fact that the symptoms are still developing suggests an underlying cause you can't see.

Good luck 🤞🏻

Yes A&E happened to a friend recently and it was a bleed on the brain

2 weeks he had ignored the signs something was wrong.

Misspacorabanne · 22/07/2022 16:24

Really not sure what it could be, but glad your off to A&E, good luck.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 22/07/2022 16:45

Glad you're off to A&E now

Redburnett · 22/07/2022 16:52

To be frank unless you have really serious significant symptoms (and only you or 111 can decide if this is the case) you will be wasting your time going to A&E. I went yesterday with head injury (no loss of conscientious), and other injuries after a fall, and waited over 3 hours before I was even triaged. When people say the NHS is broken they mean it.

Threeboysandadog · 22/07/2022 17:06

Glad you are going to A&E. I hope your wait is not too long and it’s something easily fixed. Let us know how you get on.

Reckless advice. Clearly OP needed urgent medical attention and in the end she got that advice. Always best to be cautious especially with such symptoms.

Mumsnet does not replace 111/out of hours GP etc etc.

womaninatightspot · 22/07/2022 17:21

I had something similar and then headache got worse and half my face froze up. Bell’s palsy but with extra tingling all down left side I felt really awful. Felt better on steroids but when they finished the other side of my face started twitching and headache came back. Lots of tests Ct scan, lumbar puncture, mri, antibiotics in case it was Lyme disease.

conclusion was inflamed nerves possibly due to virus or Lyme disease or other cause. I take some medication for nerve pain and migraine control but apart from that back to normal.

I would contact 111 but wanted to share my story that it is entirely possible that it turns out not to be terribly serious in the end.

CoastalWave · 22/07/2022 17:22

Opticians!!!!

That would be my first port of call.

Did you miss the update with the OP telling us 111 told her to go to A&E?
@CoastalWave hope you're feeling better soon Flowers

Agree, very reckless.

Thank you all. The Dr wanted me to have a CT scan and just waiting for the results now. In a bit of a panic if I'm honest. No one with me as DH has the kids.

Ah glad you're getting a CT, but totally appreciate the stress. Hope it's just weird but not serious.

Thinking of you. Must be so scary being on your own.

Runwayqueen · 22/07/2022 19:15

I hope everything is ok OP

Belle89 · 22/07/2022 19:18

Best wishes, when do they expect the results to be ready?

ShaneTwane · 22/07/2022 19:20

Hand hold op. Glad you went to a and e. Mumsnet is utterly shit for people advising people not to go to hospital when clearly needed.

No idea. Desperately hoping it isn't too long because I'm being a bit of a wimp about all of this.
