Would you go to A&E for this? Bit worried.

To cut a long story short I've been suffering with intense head pressure for nearly two weeks. I wouldn't call it a headache exactly, more like a really bad feeling of pressure, it's been pretty much constant the entire time but not painful enough to stop me from sleeping. I am also getting weird sensations down my left side, tingling and the skin feels weirdly numb. This afternoon one of my eyes has turned a bit bloodshot for no apparent reason.
I've been holding off seeing the GP as I am in the process of switching but the pressure is getting really quite bad now so I don't really know what to do. I really don't want to go to A&E on a Friday to just be bumped around until Monday or to waste anyone's time in case it's something trivial, but the eye thing has freaked me out a bit.

I'm wondering how old you are @Beebatron because this kind of thing was the start of my perimenopause . Mine was a hemiplegic migraine which mimics the symptoms of a stroke and can be hormonal. Wishing you well.

Northernlurker · 22/07/2022 21:27

Really glad you went to A&E. Those of you saying it wasn't needed really need to back off giving your views without some basic understanding.

Yes emergency departments are under pressure but that's not a reason to keep away with frightening symptoms. As has been shown the op needed an urgent ct scan. The only way to access that is A&E.

Hoping you get good results OP

Hmmm... sorry to add to the scare stories, but I went to the GP with pins and needles on one side, and (after being fobbed off twice and then sent to a neurologist) wound up with a diagnosis of MS.

(Decades later I'm still walking and anyway your situation is different, with the bloodshot eye.)

Point is, strained medical services tend to be dismissive of vague, weird but not obviously dangerous symptoms, but that doesn't mean they're trivial. Make sure to get this investigated, whether through 111, urgent care or a+e. All the best.

ZedMammy · 22/07/2022 21:36

Hoping you’re home with your family soon whatever the results x

Galvanisethis · 22/07/2022 21:38

Glad you went to A&E and praying for a good result for you. I would have gone to A&E myself with the same symptoms x

Beebatron · 22/07/2022 21:53

Hi everyone. Thank you all for being so lovely. Luckily my scan results came back clear but I have been diagnosed with quite high blood pressure (it was hypertensive apparently) and what is likely a secondary headache coming from a spinal/neck issue or trapped nerve. The pain is still quite bad but I'm just incredibly relieved its nothing worse. Had my first panic attack in a long time so just trying to rest now and have to go and have bloods etc done next week to come up with a plan to get my blood pressure down. Thank you again for all of your kindness.

Phew

That's a great update OP

Hope you get it under control quickly.

Wam90 · 22/07/2022 21:54

I’m glad you’re being checked over and and are now waiting for your ct results. Doctors take these symptoms very seriously as you have now experienced. Fingers crossed that all is well.

3luckystars · 22/07/2022 21:54

That’s good news. Sorry about the blood pressure though. I hope you can get it down quickly and you feel better soon.

Happymum12345 · 22/07/2022 21:56

So pleased it’s nothing sinister. Try to have a good rest. I expect you feel exhausted.

Wam90 · 22/07/2022 21:56

Sorry I’ve just seen your update. I’m so glad it was clear. Rest up and take care.

RichardOsmansXRaySpecs · 22/07/2022 21:57

Bloody pressure you can deal with. Phew what a relief 😅

Denny53 · 22/07/2022 22:05

Excellent news OP !

Benjispruce4 · 22/07/2022 22:07

Glad it was clear. What a relief.
So many don’t take high blood pressure seriously so it’s good in a way you’ve had that picked up. It’s a silent killer.

Mumof3andlovingit · 22/07/2022 22:10

So glad to hear you’re ok. The high BP today can also be down to anxiety/stress and panic attack. Try and relax and I hope all is well for you 💐

Emelene · 22/07/2022 22:12

I’m glad you’ve been seen and had the investigations and heading home. 😊 Rest and take care of yourself. All the best!

Mmmmsherbetdibdabs · 22/07/2022 22:18

Really glad to hear your news. I hope they are able to get it under control soon. Take care of yourself

PoppyDrug · 22/07/2022 22:21

Don’t put things off, don’t be in pain

AhaLyn · 22/07/2022 22:25

That’s good to hear @Beebatron hope you have a restful night now, panic attacks are very draining. Glad you got some answers Flowers

mindutopia · 22/07/2022 22:27

No, I wouldn’t go to A&E. Was in A&E last night with dc with a complex fracture that required surgery and just the number of people there at 2am clogging things up, having waiting 10 hours, because they cut their finger or had felt a bit poorly for a week was unbelievable. I’ve been awake for 24 hours now and I definitely wouldn’t opt for that if a simple visit with the GP would do.

Panda8383 · 22/07/2022 22:30

That’s a big relief for you :-) glad to hear it

Threeboysandadog · 22/07/2022 22:31

Good news op. Hopefully they will get you sorted out next week.

GirlOfTudor · 22/07/2022 22:44

I'm so glad you're okay. Not an ideal outcome, but I'm so glad it's nothing seriously worse.
You were absolutely right to go to A&E though. It could've been something very serious and going straight there meant you could get all the tests done asap, rather than waiting for lengthy GP referrals.

TrashyPanda · 22/07/2022 22:50

So glad you went to A&E and have found out the cause is not too sinister.

hope you can have a nice relaxing weekend.
