Derxa, are you happy with Truss trade deal with Aus and NZ?

Derxa, are you happy with Truss trade deal with Aus and NZ?

No. What's that got to do with Nicola and her rabble?

DuncinToffee · 02/08/2022 11:21

You are the one saying Go Liz Truss!

I guess that is just selective cheering and not an overall endorsement

I can't stand Liz Truss

Notonthestairs · 02/08/2022 11:38

It's just such lazy politics though. It was a golden opportunity to cheer on what the Union can offer. Offer positivity.

And - by drawing the lines narrowly around personality rather than policy - what will be remembered is that Sturgeon has been chosen by the electorate. Truss hasn't.

derxa · 02/08/2022 11:06

Exactly. Huge numbers of us Scots don't want independence
She leads a government which is inefficient and riven with scandal. You lot just don't read about it.

Go Liz Truss!

I'm not a 'you lot' derxa.

I'm not saying everyone supports Sturgeon or independence by any means but, if her party suddenly rolled over, they would be the most enormous hypocrites.

Go Liz Truss!

ps that story was in The Guardian.

Notonthestairs · 02/08/2022 12:16

"It turns out Liz Truss willfully misrepresented her own public sector pay proposals"

More inconsistencies. It's almost like they are making up as they go along and we'd have no idea what their actual policies might be. How can anyone make a sensible choice?

balalake · 02/08/2022 12:17

I have often said the best argument against Scottish independence is the SNP. Any Westminster government not prepared to argue the case for the union and seeking just to ignore those who want independence is a poor advocate.

Elodie09 · 02/08/2022 12:30

Truss's "trash talk" train picks up speed as Sunak sees, and bides his time.

DuncinToffee · 02/08/2022 12:43

Are you a Conservative member who can vote Elodie09?

KatharineofAragon · 02/08/2022 12:43

Notonthestairs · 02/08/2022 11:03

I think complaining that opposition politicians "moan" when you've been a member of the biggest bunch of moaners in Parliament - the ERG - reeks of hypocrisy.

Not hugely surprising however. It takes a lot less effort to demean a single personality than it does to engage.

By all means they should challenge the SNP, show what is to be gained by staying in the Union, persuade voters by offering solid progressive policies, and stop treating Scottish Conservatives as a branch office. Conservatives should be looking to broaden their appeal. Surely they are making life more difficult for Scottish Conservatives?

I suppose membership are largely based in southern England and Truss is just feeding them what they want to hear.

It's all short term thinking - pretty much the theme of the leadership race.

Yup. What a shower of half wits they are.

DuncinToffee · 02/08/2022 12:48

Why does it still surprise me how utter shit they are

Tory leadership candidate Liz Truss backtracks on plan to link public sector pay to local living costs

Notonthestairs · 02/08/2022 12:54

"The backstory…

Truss camp always said regional pay was for new contracts so no pay cuts for current workers

And argued it was first for civil service, then maybe public sector

BUT they picked an £8.8bn savings figure based on cuts now + for whole public sector. So…ditched"

Incoherent policy making requiring rapid U turns. Where have we seen this before?

Blimey, that didn’t take long. I can’t keep up with the U turns.

InMySpareTime · 02/08/2022 13:22

I think the U turns are just doughnuts now.

Given that very many people's pay has not for the past 12 years kept up with living costs, local or otherwise, are we to understand from this that Liz Truss is proposing above inflation pay rises for very many public sector workers?

Tale of two busses

Bye Bye Big Dog. Who is going to take over? Truss V Sunak Thread 12
Elodie09 · 02/08/2022 14:06

@DuncinToffee No.

Elodie09 · 02/08/2022 14:08

@DuncinToffee You have wounded me........

DuncinToffee · 02/08/2022 14:14

Not intentionally, I can offer you a plaster if that makes it better

Notonthestairs · 02/08/2022 14:55

I am beginning to think u turn doesn't quite cover it.

They throw out a bunch of lies and then wait to see which ones can be immediately & obviously challenged.

Then lie about the reverse ferret.

Layers of lies wrapped around nonsense.

"Wilful misrepresentation" my arse.

tobee · 02/08/2022 15:05

Surely, surely the Conservative Party can do better than this? They're the dregs. I thought the Hague/Howard/Duncan Smith era was poor. At least they were in opposition

cakeorwine · 02/08/2022 18:43

I had a glance at the Express this morning which was praising Truss's plans for the public sector pay.

And Rees-Mogg was saying how good it was

I wonder what they will say tomorrow?

Notonthestairs · 02/08/2022 20:32

"Latest YouGov / Times Tory members poll - 34 point lead for Truss

60% Truss
26% Sunak"

twitter.com/samcoatessky/status/1554544957473660931?s=21&t=GGRPQXw9ggCkRs-2Q1lfdA

Cake - they'll ignore what they said yesterday and talk about Sunak the Socialist again 🙄
