I just love the idea of him avoiding crowds for the foreseeable Grin

Cornettoninja · 01/08/2022 18:56

Nah, I’m going with JOB’s assessment - he doesn’t want to get booed on mass. He’s a coward (not exactly breaking news but sometimes there’s only one word that fits Grin)

Could it be that his security detail advised him not to attend?

DuncinToffee · 01/08/2022 20:23

Mordaunt just endorsed Truss at the hustings.

Blossomtoes · 01/08/2022 20:26

It’s pretty much a done deal for Truss now. I imagine Richmond will be looking for a new Tory candidate at the next election.

tobee · 01/08/2022 20:31

God knows why people were saying it was a done deal for Sunak.

Notonthestairs · 01/08/2022 20:51

I must confess I'm amazed at the weight that's been given to Sunak as "backstabbing" Johnson, particularly given so many members were happy to vote for Johnson after he followed David Davis & resigned.
Its almost like it's a convenient excuse.

Truss saying she'll just ignore Sturgeon is a bit of a gift to the SNP.

cakeorwine · 01/08/2022 21:14

Interesting

Voting intention (Labour lead at 14pts)
Labour 44% (+3 pts from June)
Conservatives 30% (nc)
Lib Dems 10% (-5)
Greens 8% (+2)
Others 8% (nc)

There must be some mistake.
Why is, do they know what a women is not an option?

Elodie09 · 01/08/2022 21:48

I don't think it is over for Rishi Sunak yet at all.

Also interesting. Wonder what the % would have been for faith in politics etc would have been before 2016?

Notonthestairs · 01/08/2022 22:07

That list broadly reflects my concerns.

I wondered if faith in politics appeared at all until recently?

That list is incoherent. For example surely petrol should be grouped with nflation/prices

Because outside the MN echo chamber no-one GAF

tobee · 02/08/2022 02:25

Also isn't "inflation, prices" part if the economy? Or does it not work like that? Did people get asked to name something rather than just choose from a list?

tobee · 02/08/2022 02:27

Presumably "top mentions" means people just had free choice, not a list.

Anyway.....

KatharineofAragon · 02/08/2022 04:32

I’ve just found this thread. What do you all make of Truss commenting about Nicola Sturgeon that she is ‘best ignored’ and an ‘attention seeker’?

I’m no fan, God knows, but if she is PM, is she really just going to ignore the First Minister of Scotland? Doesn’t she realise how this is going to go down with voters in Scotland? It’s beyond naive . All it does is play to the nationalists as they will be even more determined that independence is the right thing now.

Did she? That's so rude about an elected leader. She is going to cause so much damage as PM.

Totally agree
I was shocked at her comments and even more shocked at the massive applause and cheers for what she said but this was to party Members, I suppose.
Whether she likes it or not, Nicola Sturgeon is the First Minister of Scotland, a part of the UK and Truss has managed to push along the Indyref vote with such stupidity. No wonder Scotland feel like they do. Will she say the same about Mark Drakeford?

I can't wait for Ian Blackford to kick her arse in PMQs if she wins

I also noticed education isn't on there. And yet , Liz says she is the 'education prime minister'.

I always find it frustrating how little the general public cares about education, really, until it makes for good sound bites.

What Liz Truss said about Sturgeon is really shocking and so unstatesmanlike- Boris has shown them the way in this public mocking of and sneering at public figures.

Boris Johnson has been campaigning for some time for Scottish independence, was it a manifesto commitment, perhaps that's why Truss is continuing to do so?

What on earth is PMQs going to be like. Truss vs Starmer and Blackford is surely going to be a weekly car crash?

Notonthestairs · 02/08/2022 07:50

Bit rich of Truss to call Sturgeon attention seeking considering Truss' seemingly has a photographer on permanent standby.
