Liz Truss wants to evoke the spirit of Don Revie. Who deserted the England football team to make money for himself in the UAE.

cakeorwine · 28/07/2022 19:56

She wants to get rid of red tape for farmers

If only there was a way.....

I can see that her speech is very very different to the TV stuff. Know your audience and all that

I don't think she realises the cost of living crisis that is in the UK at the moment

cakeorwine · 28/07/2022 20:25

Interesting watching live questions from Tory party members

cakeorwine · 28/07/2022 21:49

Liz Truss wants to look at the benefits system and get people off benefits and into work. With punishments if they don't do that.

She wants to see growth but you can't grow without having people to grow a business.

No real discussion on cost of living, inflation, NHS, social care, housing, affordable housing.....

Joe Lycett at the opening of the Commonwealth Games

And I’m going to do something now the British government doesn’t always do and welcome some foreigners.”

the80sweregreat · 28/07/2022 22:56

They already have sanctions on benefit claimants. What more does she want to do to them ?

What a twat he is

Westfacing · 28/07/2022 23:06

Where is Big Dog - has he been out and about?

Notonthestairs · 28/07/2022 23:07

Joe Lycett may be a twat but at least he's not busy pretending he's not been in power for the last 12 years.

cakeorwine · 28/07/2022 23:08

There was very little challenge at the hustings.

There's a psychological phenomenon of being with people with similar views so you don't realise that your views are very different to the mainstream. I think that was what the hustings are like. Listen and try to appeal to people who have similar views - but forgetting the rest of the country exists.

There was one brave young person at the end who was suggesting pensioners who 'sit around at home all day with their wealth' should work or contribute more as young people are suffering.

He was at a sports opening ceremony. There were sports people from all over the world after the pandemic. You don't understand sport at all and neither does he

Blossomtoes · 28/07/2022 23:23

I don’t think Joe Lycett knows McGee about sport either. Wtaf was he wearing?

Quia · 28/07/2022 23:38

Didn't seem to bother his audience, given their favourable response to him.

Notonthestairs · 28/07/2022 23:42

If you can criticise a comedian for being a twat (which I acknowledged) than you will also recognise when politicians are being deliberately misleading and call it out.

Both Truss & Sunak are busy distancing themselves from government when they have both been in key positions of influence for some time - that's far worse than a poorly judged "joke" in my opinion.

Roussette · 29/07/2022 07:10

So Truss is on the side of people who save, people who start their own businesses, people who work every day. Shock That's the message she gave out at the hustings. And she doesn't believe in windfall taxes, as it doesn't encourage growth, all while the elec companies are raking in billions.

We are in deep shit if she gets in.

Also she has taken to waving her hands around just like Trump. Can't stand it. I think she will do anything to get the top job... change the tone of her voice, move from LD to Tory, Remainer to Brexiteer... she is just doing her damndest to appeal to the faithful 200,000 party members. She'll say anything and do anything.

Starve them out of their frozen homes.

What a twat he is

He may be a twat, but the statement that the British government doesn't always welcome foreigners is demonstrably true. Many of us do not like that truth, but have to live with it. I expect some people will try and deny it is true, and a third group will support the government in doing so. Which group do you fall into?

DuncinToffee · 29/07/2022 09:01

Farage was complaining the opening ceremony was too left-wing

Maybe derxa prefers booing like at the Olympics or fuck the tories chants like at the MMA event

Cornettoninja · 29/07/2022 09:06

Let’s face it Truss is just a pound shop puppet. She’ll say whatever she’s told to.

don’t get me wrong, they’re all under someone’s influence but her moral compass is devoid of any direction apart from ‘be Thatcher’ she doesn’t even filter the people around her. She’s Boris without a gimmick.

Cornettoninja · 29/07/2022 09:07

jgw1 · 29/07/2022 07:32

Bold of you to presume people will have homes.

Interview on Today with pensioner Bob from Chlemsley Wood on energy prices, saying same thing you hear everywhere when interviewing people on this: “What can you do? Not eat so much, cut right down. And if they cut me off they cut me off. It’s worrying me, it’s making me bad.”

Cornettoninja · 29/07/2022 09:41

@DuncinToffee I feel so bad for that pensioner - then I remember I’m having exactly the same thoughts like lots of others.
