I could imagine Dorries or similar accepting a peerage in order to open up a safe seat for Johnson.

guinnessguzzler · 28/07/2022 06:37

Yes, that would make sense. See if they put the amount of effort they do into scheming into just actually doing a decent job, we wouldn't be in quite such a mess.

balalake · 28/07/2022 07:11

Sky tv debate is on August 4th I think. After ballot papers have gone out I understand.

Hopefully the Sky host will ask some difficult questions. Sophie Raworth is too gentle.

Roussette · 28/07/2022 07:42

Dorries on BBC breakfast news banging on about how wonderful Johnson is, and no she doesn't regret saying about Truss's earrings and Sunak's suit. She is blathering on about 'judgement' and not wearing an expensive suit.

Truss has obviously promised her she'll keep her job as she is knocking Sunak in a very unsubtle way.

Dorries wears expensive clothes and shoes!

An unflushable turd

EXCL: Boris Johnson allies are plotting to find a safe Tory seat for PM for a potential comeback to No 10 - amid concerns his Uxbridge constituency could be at risk.
twitter.com/PippaCrerar/status/1552372020624728065?t=lBUUB5SPCiHiPKPBN7MZWg&s=19

I struggle to believe Johnson would be content to be on the back benches or even to have a cabinet post where he has to support someone else.

Cornettoninja · 28/07/2022 08:25

I thought Uxbridge was a safe seat? Surely the powers that be can see that he is a risk in any safe seat.

DuncinToffee · 28/07/2022 08:39

Dorries is calling the removal of Johnson a 'coup'

DuncinToffee · 28/07/2022 08:40

The latest projections were that Johnson would lose the Uxbridge seat.

Hmmm she might be right, but that’s what happens when leaders start playing by their own rules.

Blossomtoes · 28/07/2022 09:34

Would endorsement by Dorries encourage anyone to vote for Truss? It’s the kiss of death for anyone with half a brain. I see she’s trading on knowing what a woman is, followed closely by Sunak. So cynical.

"I struggle to believe Johnson would be content to be on the back benches or even to have a cabinet post where he has to support someone else."

I agree Johnson wouldn't enjoy the backbenches but he can't be re-elected leader without remaining an MP.

I'm sure he'd be as supportive as he was for Theresa May and David Cameron. Grin

DuncinToffee · 28/07/2022 10:13

I wonder if Johnson is happy to be out so he doesn't need to deal with energy crisis that is about to hit us

Huge profits from energy companies this morning... as households face £3,500 energy bills from October

* Centrica, owner of British gas, announces five fold increase in profits to £1.3billion in first half of year

*Shell's profits hit a new all time high of £9.4billion

scrapping VAT & cutting green levies - are 'trivial' in the face of what is coming

the80sweregreat · 28/07/2022 11:11

I suppose that the government will just say we are giving people the £400 in October towards the fuel bills and pray that is enough to get people through the winter time.
I can't see them offering any more money or Liz Truss making the fuel companies pay out anything either as it stands.

Blossomtoes · 28/07/2022 11:26

Those profits are absolutely obscene in the context of rocketing bills. Based on that evidence, would anyone seriously disagree with renationalising utilities?

Profiteering.

the80sweregreat · 28/07/2022 11:36

I'm with Shell energy , they have a nice web page of people sitting in lovely warm houses and going on about how much they care ( until you try to get in touch with them about anything!)

I was saying that on another thread, did he engineer what happened so he could escape but October and then ride back in to save us from all the chaos next year or 2024.

L1ttledrummergirl · 28/07/2022 13:21

I heard something this morning about how the electricity suppliers are still paying the old price per unit for electricity they harvest from those with solar panels.
They haven't increased that payment out in line with price increases.
They really are determined to get every penny out of the British public and the government is doing fuck all to sort it.
It's disgraceful.

Hope you've all booked your holidays to Portugal after Rees Mogg instruction?

It is the common sense thing for people to do.

If only people had half the common sense of Jacob Rees Mogg they would be so much better off.

We're having a weekend in Wells, not a long weekend just one night. Not sure how long we'd get in Portugal for what that's costing. He's no idea how much some of us have to spend on holidays.

Thoughtful and (to my mind) understated response from a Tory councillor who attended Liz Truss' school.

As he commented she's rewriting her own history (whilst busying forgetting other people were there too!)

Why couldn't she simply say I was fortunate in my schooling but many were not and leave it at that?

the80sweregreat · 28/07/2022 19:14

Is Mr Rees Mogg offering to pay for these holidays to Portugal or is he now working for the Portuguese tourist board?

cakeorwine · 28/07/2022 19:29

I like driving my car to Europe. I don't think it's the same as flying to Portugal.

I wonder if Rees Mogg has ever been on a camping trip to France via Dover?
