Lord Bamford stepped in after they had to change their wedding party plans - on wonder what's in it for Bamford?

"The Grade 1 listed home belongs to JCB chairman Lord Bamford who has given some £14 million in cash and gifts to the party since 2001.
Sources suggested the Tory peer, who backed Mr Johnson's leadership bid in 2019, was covering at least some of the the cost of the party.
Mr and Mrs Johnson are understood to have organised a marquee in the 1,500-acre grounds where guests will be wined and dined before dancing the night away."

How lovely. The rest of us, if required to find a venue at a few weeks' notice at this time of year for a large wedding celebration would be absolutely stuffed. But, surprise surprise, Boris can come up with a millionaire pal who can not only provide a venue but will also pay for it.

If I were a journalist, I would be looking very closely indeed at Lord Bamford and his business round about now.

the80sweregreat · 26/07/2022 19:11

If I ever had 14 million pounds doing nothing in the bank the last people I'd ever give it too are the conservatives even if they promised to double it ( or wherever the pay off is!)
Its mind boggling what goes on with the mega rich isn't it?

Kate McCann fainted. Harry Cole was supposed to do the debate but has covid.

I find that clip extremely interesting from a leadership perspective. Her instinctive reaction was to back away, look to others, and then tentatively approach. Which is fine, I'd probably do the same, but to me it's a real tell of inner leadership qualities.

Boris and Carrie Johnson should surely learn to cut their cloth.

He already had lots of free advertising for his company JCB and iirc was involved with the India visit so business deals.

the80sweregreat · 26/07/2022 19:33

I get the impression that Carrie and Boris Johnson never cut their cloth even if his sister on lbc the other week was trying to get a bit of sympathy for them by saying they didn't even have a salad bowl between them ..
cue the smallest violin.

DuncinToffee · 26/07/2022 19:39

They got food donated by a donor during covid didn't they? At least they have a serving trolley.....

"Is it on the trolley?"

Sorry. Couldn't resist. Saw a programme about Victoria Wood the other night.

That is the worrying part of it. Who is the PM beholden to.

tobee · 26/07/2022 19:43

It's not like the Johnson's are teenagers just starting out, Argos laminated book of dreams in hand.

the80sweregreat · 26/07/2022 19:45

I can vaguely remember seeing a big delivery of food and toilet rolls being wheeled through Downing Street in the news in March 2020 whilst the rest of us were fighting over it all ! I remember thinking then ' this is serious ' . little
did I know it was all sundries for the upcoming parties!

DuncinToffee · 26/07/2022 19:47

More on Johnson meeting Lebedev

Why was @RoryStewartUK, a Minister in the @FCDOGovUK at the same time as Johnson was Foreign Secretary also get invited to Lebedev’s palazzo if the host did not intend (Government) business to be discussed - or ‘kompromised’? And why did he know to refuse the invitation?

Yes this was Lady Bamford - owner of Daylesford food.

What kind friends.

Notonthestairs · 26/07/2022 20:21

"I would hate to live my life like that. Beholden to other people."

Absolutely agree. But this has the tinge of owing more than simple friendly favours. It's all too close knit, you scratch my back etc.

Notonthestairs · 26/07/2022 20:22

My mistake, Baroness Bamford.

I’m convinced that some of the worst is going on right now as BJ ties up loose ends and settles debts.

He shouldn’t be in post.

tobee · 26/07/2022 20:46

Feels like everyone's given up on getting him gone.

Does anyone know what Sunak did?

tobee · 26/07/2022 23:04

Good question. It doesn't appear to have been caught on camera.

Cornettoninja · 27/07/2022 09:08

Looks like Priti left her lair for a day at the races. Shame she couldn’t manage anything else before parliament broke up.

L1ttledrummergirl · 27/07/2022 09:19

I know, I've been wondering about Sunaks reaction.

I think it's wonderful that our MPs can avoid scrutiny by being busy but still have time to have a day at the races. It really shows they take their job seriously and are working hard for the people. Confused
