Ah sorry @AnneKipankitoo! I end up with so many Twitter tabs open I lose track Grin

Braverman

Suella Braverman on the UK leaving the European Court of Human Rights.

"The Rwanda policy is vulnerable to claims based on human rights... & we simply won't be able to remove people in significant numbers.. if we don't leave the ECHR"

Terrifying that this woman is AG

Blossomtoes · 14/07/2022 13:05

She resigned @DuncinToffee. Hopefully whoever wins the leadership won’t reinstate her.

Well I did warn you all Grin

She comes across as all sweetness and light but she's completely cold and heartless.

Yet - tbf to her - she's also done some amazing things. She managed to get chemo set up in our community hospital so some patients won't need to travel and be in actual hospital. As someone who has just lost their mum to cancer (and seen how horrific chemo is as well as the illness) I applaud that.

But it's literally the only good thing I have to say about her in all the time she's been my MP - which is 7 years!

DuncinToffee · 14/07/2022 13:09

She didn't resign Blossomtoes

Blossomtoes · 14/07/2022 13:27

Christ, you’re right. I genuinely thought she had. She’s even more shameless than I thought she was.

Notonthestairs · 14/07/2022 13:30

No she announced she'd run for leadership before Johnson had resigned and without resigning herself. Classy.

I'm a great Jane McDonald fan or rather I'm a fan of her persona. What's happening here is that PM seems to have a real chance of winning the contest. Let's trivialise this woman by comparing her to a light entertainment performer who makes a big deal about being non intellectual.
Who will we compare Kemi to?

Jane McDonald is a very switched on clever woman. If you're a great fan of her as you say, why is it trivialising her?

I never knew she made a big deal about being non intellectual.

Kemi? A dead ringer for my nephew's wife actually.

That's Suella 🤣🤣🤣

She ain't nothing if she isn't ruthless!

borntobequiet · 14/07/2022 13:51

In any reasonable world Mordaunt’s campaign video would rule her out as a serious contender, but in our current reality - well, who knows?
Liz Truss was trying for the serious stateswoman look in her launch, but just managed to resemble a humanoid robot with sentient circuit problems.

I'm sorry I trivialized the thread earlier on.

In an era when JRM describes Downing Street staff and our Prime Minister breaking the law as "fluff" and the PM refers to the costs of child abuse inquiry as spaffing money up the wall, I don't think it's you trivialising politics.

DuncinToffee · 14/07/2022 14:04

Here's Liz Truss getting lost as she tries to leave a small room with just one door.

UK Parliament Human Rights

Dominic Raab has postponed his evidence session that was scheduled to take place next week.

We have asked him to reconsider his decision so that we can question him on the Bill of Rights before recess.

Cornettoninja · 14/07/2022 14:13

Liz Truss was trying for the serious stateswoman look in her launch, but just managed to resemble a humanoid robot with sentient circuit problems.

that’s the best description I’ve ever seen of her.

I know she’s had elocution lessons, which is fine whatever, but taking that with the rest of her presentation verbally and visually, she’s basically a caricature of whatever she thinks a successful female Tory MP should be. It’s like watching a child in a school play.

Roussette · 14/07/2022 14:15

I honestly think Truss is trying to be Margaret Thatcher Mark 2. And failing dismally, she just looks ridiculous in all these photo ops (more than the rest of the cabinet put together). I do wonder what's between her ears actually.

"If the Attorney General’s view is that the Rwanda plan is incompatible with the ECHR, then she needs to explain (1) why the government is maintaining the contrary in the courts and (2) why she let Ministers state that the necessary legislation was compatible with the ECHR.

As Attorney General, you have to place the duties of your office (which include maintaining a coherent government legal position) over your own and your party’s political interests. It isn’t exactly self-evident that the current holder of that high office understands that."

I believe this called being hoisted by your own petard.

He goes on to suggest that she should not be running for leadership whilst AG and should have resigned before launching her bid.

Ministers avoiding being questioned by their peers?

Nobody can claim it's not business as usual.

Trivialising politics is our current PM calling the leader of the opposition Captain Crasharoony Snoozefest'.

Lord Frost talking about Penny Mordaunt who was his deputy in Brexit negotiations.

Worth a listen.
He doesn't have one good thing to say about her. She was basically incompetent
