Who should replace Johnson? Explain your answer.

OP posts:
Summerwhereareyou · 07/07/2022 18:39

I can't see that any replacements will appeal to the red wall like Boris did and unless his successor is exceptional,I don't think they would have a chance at the next election.

It would come down to how unappealing labour is at the time.

Maybe a coaltion would be best.

dontcallmelen · 07/07/2022 18:58

FPTP system isn’t fit for purpose, what we desperately need is Proportional Representation unfortunately I can’t ever see that happening.

Takeittotheboss · 07/07/2022 19:44

@dontcallmelen you've called it right on both counts.

WaterWall22 · 07/07/2022 19:57

Tom Tugendhat is not tainted by the incompetence and idiocy of the last cabinet. I'm surprised few people mention Suella Braverman. She's been promoted way beyond her ability only because of her support for Boris and Brexit.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 07/07/2022 20:09

I always think Tugendhat sounds rude <snigger>

Sorry😁

54isanopendoor · 07/07/2022 20:13

Rory Stewart.
OR Ruth Davidson.

both are Intelligent.
have Integrity.
understand the International Situation.
are able to Delegate effectively.
would Work Hard & not just arse about like the current crew.
are not tainted by Johnson, like all the current crew are, who've jumped ship now.

Would Ruth Davidson
if be allowed to put herself forward ,I thought she was in the house of Lords?
If she is I agree she would be an excellent candidate.

Nanalisa60 · 07/07/2022 21:11

Ben Wallace - the best man for the job

PiffleWiffleWoozle · 07/07/2022 21:43

Ruth Davidson would be great but would need to be a serving MP to stand.

theanxiousgardener · 07/07/2022 21:44

swedex · 07/07/2022 10:09

Rory Stewart!

He's not currently an MP, so can't stand.

1dayatatime · 07/07/2022 23:23

"as a caretaker: Theresa May would be hilarious, it'd make BloJo explode and she'd clear all the crap out of the cabinet (I'm looking at you Nads)"

++++

Oh please please let it be so. It would be hilarious giving everyone a much needed uplift and a just reward for her for being cruelly thrown under a bus.

Borisisafecklesstoad · 07/07/2022 23:53

Ruth davidson or Rory

Most of the party now talking of how they had to act for their "integrity" needed to man up feckin months ago...

Both of the above (despite being left field) are likely the only ones who can save the union and seem to have any form of capability or integrity...

takeitandleaveit · 08/07/2022 17:39

Angela Merkel
😂

Wasn't that voted against fairly recently?

Cherrysoup · 09/07/2022 09:21

I see Rishi has thrown in his hat. I hope he gets nowhere given his dodgy behaviour and his wife’s shady finances. Someone who is so rich can’t possibly understand the average person on the street’s situation.

I think it's unlikely the Tories will select Rishi. There's too much easy ammunition for the opposition.

LadyWithLapdog · 09/07/2022 09:32

Sunak is on a hiding to nothing. His wife’s tax dealings are unforgivable. If he doesn’t know what’s happening in his household, I don’t trust him to have a grip on anything else. Then there’s the whole furlough and Ear Out to Die Out etc.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 09/07/2022 09:43

Proportional representation.

There was a Tory mp on tv on resignation day. He said:

The next government will be a minority Labour government with the support of the SNP. This government will introduce PR.

Following that, the election after that will be a Labour majority,

🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Peregrina · 09/07/2022 09:51

Wasn't that [PR] voted against fairly recently?

No. That was the Alternative vote system which isn't PR. The LibDems missed a trick there though, and should have said that they wanted a Referendum on a proper PR system or the coalition was off. They didn't and they have paid the price.

Veralil · 09/07/2022 09:51

I grow more optimistic daily that Sir Keir and Ms Angela will be able to topple him, but as ever, the power is with the media so we'll see how much integrity there really is.
I do like your idea, 1dayatatime for Teresa May as caretaker if the1922 won't do the right thing. She could sweep the very worst of them out.
I actually did feel disgusted when Andrea Jenkyns flipped the bird.

Maireas · 09/07/2022 09:55

Harold Macmillan

Frazzled2207 · 09/07/2022 09:55

Yvette Cooper bur obvs that won’t be happening anytime soon. She is just an outstanding politician. I’d settle for Starmer.

of the Tory bunch I’d say Tugenhat. Intrigued by the lady who’s put herself forward this morning, Kemi. I don’t know anything about her (yet)

Maireas · 09/07/2022 09:56

When we explain our answer, how many pieces of evidence do we need?
Thank you.

wheresmymojo · 09/07/2022 10:01

Tom Tugendhat is joint 1st choice as seems like a reasonable human being and competent

The Saj is joint 2nd choice on the same basis

Jeremy Cunt is 3rd. I know everyone hated him but having listened to many interviews since he's had very reasonable and competent things to say about many of the things that have happened (pandemic, vaccinations, various scandals).

At least I feel with those three, I don't agree with their politics but they're shrewd, seem competent and capable and ethical as far as we know.

I feel like Rishi is super intelligent and competent but I think he's financially extremely hardcore Tory so that worries me. He's a potential Thatcher reincarnated.

wheresmymojo · 09/07/2022 10:02

I do want to listen to some Liz Truss interviews. I feel like she comes across as not very competent compared to the others but I need to check if that's social media / media misogyny.

I don't really know anything about Penny Mordant TBH.
