⚡️Martial law has been declared in the areas of the Kharkiv region occupied by the Russian military.

This is reported by the Russian media with reference to the so-called "head of the temporary civil regional administration" Vitalii Hanchev.

Not good news for Kharkiv

MagicFox · 08/07/2022 16:49

Wow, definitely watching Kazakhstan. It feels really clear how Eastern Europe understand what's at stake here, have known for a long term, and know how best to respond

Relevant to earlier discussion, just been reading up and seems Ben Wallace has some fairly questionable views on homosexuality and gay marriage….

Reports that Russia will take ‘harsh’ action over Lithuania ‘blockading’ Kaliningrad.

Any thoughts on what this might look like?

No no, on further investigation it seems an agreement was reached but that Lithuania is refusing to implement it and is sticking to its guns.

blueshoes · 08/07/2022 20:10

Respect to Lithuania and Kazakhstan. They are incredibly brave to stand up to Putin.

Dunno but they have been saying that for a couple of weeks.

No way, that can't be true

MissConductUS · 08/07/2022 22:45

That's more than a year from now, so I wouldn't get too worried about it now.

Johnson isn't good at doing jobs. He'll write, talk, fornicate and play to his skills.

Wallace? Best kept in post.

Hi all. Hope all well. Spent a month working elsewhere sans child and avoiding too much immersion with issues and have had a week catching up with the progeny and UK, the latter having entered a resignation hallucination phase.

Hillsmakeyoustrong · 09/07/2022 00:05

Welcome back @MMBaranova

Kherson looks like it needs to brace itself. Ukr army advancing according to many reports and lots of Russian ammunition stores burning. It needs to happen but it's very likely to be hell. Hoping those who can face russian filtration (not on their lists and have the courage) feel able to exit Ukraine, via Crimea and Russia, into Europe.

ISW:

Russian forces continued to conduct limited offensive operations north of Slovyansk.

Russian forces continued attempting to advance toward Siversk from Lysychansk but did not make any confirmed territorial gains.

Russian forces launched assaults on Dementiivka to disrupt Ukrainian ground lines of communication (GLOCs) along the T2117 highway.

Russian forces continued to launch assaults on settlements along the Kherson-Mykolaiv and Kherson-Dnipropetrovsk Oblast border to regain lost positions.

Russian Federation Council approved a bill committing the Kremlin to paying veteran benefits to civilians involved in the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Russian occupation authorities continued to set conditions for the annexation of Donbas and southern Ukraine.

The experts believe that Russian forces will continue to conduct more-limited offensive operations in this sector and elsewhere along the front line as they recognize the danger of allowing the Ukrainians to seize the initiative and initiate an offensive of their own.

UK int update (below) - Russia really is trying to get more stuff together and quantity does count, but the state of the stuff is poor it seems.

I wonder if they will try to reinforce Kherson instead of making more gains in the Donbas?

High number of Russian troops lost yesterday.

⚡️To date, about 3.5 thousand stations of mobile operators have been destroyed in Ukraine

⚡️Invaders completely cut off the water supply to Mariupol – Petro Andriushchenko

⚡️US President Joe Biden has signed a new $400 million military aid package for Ukraine, the Pentagon said. In total, taking into account the new tranche, Ukraine will receive 12 HIMARS.

⚡️The Russians are defenseless against the HIMARS MLRS, there is no opposition to this weapon, military expert Oleh Zhdanov believes
"This missile cannot be intercepted. If we aim it and fire it, it will hit the target with the largest deviation of three meters at a distance of 70 km. There is no protection against this missile. You can escape only if you have time or you know that it flies," said the expert.

According to him, for this reason, Russia is trying in every possible way to prevent the supply of high-precision long-range Western weapons to Ukraine.

👥 G-20 diplomats failed to agree on a unified position on the war in Ukraine. This made the prospects for further cooperation at the forum uncertain, – Associated Press [this implies that once Lavrov left there was still disunity. World support for Ukraine is certainly not unanimous]

Currently five lessons: get there fast, survive once there, blunt enemy advance, raid lines of communications & quickly switch from defence to offence.

It upsets me to see this because those are five lessons learnt at Ukraine’s. expense I feel. Much though they achieved in these ways, they had to attempt it with too little.

@Ijsbear
Once again thank you for you key take aways.

Let’s hope those HIMAR
MLRS really arrive safely and make a huge difference. Sorry to be ignorant, but If there are 12, does that mean there can be 12 targets then they are gone?

On the news last night, seeing maps of what Russia started with and what they have now was dispiriting to say the least.

It’s despairing but we must remember where we thought we’d be at this point. It was pretty much taken for granted that Ukraine would be under complete Russian control and that Zelensky and his Govt would have been disposed (and probably killed)
