So according to Lee Anderson MP - If we complain about levels of rape convictions we are inciting rape?
FFS.

Are we allowed to talk about burglary convictions or will that incite men too? What about muggings? Or road traffic accidents? Or fraud - should we keep quiet about fraud in case that puts it in their minds.

Honestly, sheer stupidity as well as misogyny. And he gets to vote in our legislation?

I hope the residents of his constituency- Ashford - are taking notes.

Piggywaspushed · 28/06/2022 20:30

Ashfield, I believe? Red Wall.

DowningStreetParty · 28/06/2022 20:45

Thank you Stella Creasy- will be writing to my useless Tory MP about supporting that. Is there more info anywhere on this please anyone?

@Piggywaspushed Ashfield! Yes. It would help if I got the constituency right!
Another one from the 2019 intake I suppose.

Piggywaspushed · 28/06/2022 21:11

He is an enormous pillock who cashes in on being an ex miner.

Jason118 · 28/06/2022 22:01

Most ex minors grow up, he must be an exception Smile

DuncinToffee · 28/06/2022 23:17

I have been watching Sherwood on BBC1, never really connected that Ashfield with Lee Anderson. It was set against the miner strike in 1983.

Does Boris Johnson think this is the way to go for women's votes?:-

It's risible, isn't it?

I wonder if he considers his behaviour as occasioned by "toxic masculinity"?

Does Boris Johnson think?

Well mostly no except about...

Simon Case being questioned by John McDonnell

twitter.com/BestForBritain/status/1541828015243624451?t=CTrSal-i41Sf8kLoREZbwQ&s=19

WOW. Watch to the end

Terse exchange, after John McDonnell probes cabinet secretary Simon Case on the PM trying to appoint Carrie as his chief of staff.

"An investigation [into the PM] under the ministerial code can only be initiated by the PM."

"Is he not keen?"

No sign of a new ethics advisor.
I've just watched that clip of John MacDonnell quizzing Simon Case about opening an investigation in to Johnson trying to get Carrie Johnson a job in the FO. It's highlighted how important it is that the decision to investigate should be removed from the PM to an independent person/body. It's a contradiction to leave that power with the PM and undermines the process. There must be checks in place to ensure that the Ministerial Code is upheld.
We won't get it of course because it's not in Johnson's interest.

(wasn't Simon Case initially the CS appointed to investigate the parties and then had to be withdrawn and Sue Grey appointed because Simon Case had attended some of them? odd that he ever thought it might be appropriate for him to investigate)

itsgettingweird · 29/06/2022 08:49

Problem with the woman in charge theory is that our current leading ladies in cabinet are Dorries, Truss, Patel and Braverman.

Hardly a shining endorsement for intelligent sensible strong leaders who would do a better job.

Roussette · 29/06/2022 08:59

Simon Case is an absolute snake isn't he?
He's a public servant FFS but is obviously just a Tory stooge. He learnt well when he was Private Secretary to Prince William obviously

Cornettoninja · 29/06/2022 09:28

Absolutely @Notonthestairs, it’s madness that a PM can shut down the possibility of investigations into their actions, I don’t understand how that fits with accountability.

I do think that post-BJ (because realistically he’s not honourable enough to tackle it) this is something that urgently needs to be reviewed.

Notonthestairs · 29/06/2022 11:29

“Carrie’s people called Rebekah’s people” - and the gruesome sexual detail the PM and his wife REALLY feared might, er, come out: why that story disappeared from the Times, revealed in the brand new Private Eye, out today."
twitter.com/PrivateEyeNews/status/1542063498469031936?s=20&t=L0yA8u_6UcEWvYNo-e_6ig

Our copy hasnt arrived yet - might make DH read it so I dont have to. However i am intrigued to read that Carrie Johnson has some kind of hotline to Rebekah Brooks (News UK - owner of the Times).

Blossomtoes · 29/06/2022 11:46

Our PE is here, it arrived this morning. Can’t wait to get my hands on it.

I agree with you @Cornettoninja, that will have to be a component of the stable cleaning. The damage Johnson has dealt democracy is appalling.

Cornettoninja · 29/06/2022 12:02

‘Gruesome sexual detail’ HmmEnvy<not envy

The Tudors is one of my favourite historical periods, it’s fascinating watching the same stuff play out in real time. If C is about to be accused of humping her brother (Ann Boylen for anyone not getting the reference) I’ll be giddy waiting for see who the next four wives will be.

Cornettoninja · 29/06/2022 12:14

I see Angela is off the leash…

ClaudineClare · 29/06/2022 12:24

Ew. The PE piece gives more detail on the "compromising position" an MP walked in on...Carrie giving BJ a BJ on the office sofa. Oh god, I feel ill.

tobee · 29/06/2022 12:28

That's a great mental image for a Wednesday.

🤮

ClaudineClare · 29/06/2022 12:31

It is just horrific, tobee.

Now we know what he gets up to when he is "working".

Blossomtoes · 29/06/2022 12:32

Oh dear. 🤮

ancientgran · 29/06/2022 12:34

I hope they got rid of the sofa. Innocent people might sit on it.

The whole room needs to be cleansed with fire.
