Johnson contemplating not appointing a new Ethics adviser. Doing away with the position altogether.
He is 'reviewing the situation' his spokesman says

You couldn't make it up. V worrying

A collection of resignation statements.

Sept 2020, Lord Keen, Advocate General for Scotland, resigns over Gov breach of international law:

BJ's ethics advisor resigning doesn't astonish me. What does astonish me is, contrary to all evidence, he ever had one.

ClaudineClare · 16/06/2022 13:28

Thanks for the new thread

So Chinese steel bad, Indian steel good? Is that the message?

Who donates to the Conservatives?

Jim Pickard

- minister Nigel Adams took >£32k of gifts/hospitality from steel tycoon Sanjeev Gupta

- steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal donated to Johnson's leadership campaign

Ah. Interesting. I know Mittal used to donate to Labour but he changed horses a long time ago.

SpinRiverSister · 16/06/2022 13:41

I don't really know what to say any more. Labour has haemorraged many of the very people who should be leading and uniting a credible opposition to this appalling shitshow - but not all.

Or am I naive? It's just so hard and bewildering to see this happening in plain sight.

Is it the reallocation of the Russian and Belarusian quotas that is the problem? I’m struggling to get a handle on this one (obviously Grin - we need a Reddit style explain-it-like-I’m-five board!)

I don't think anyone can explain it at the moment. My guess is it will be a case of "follow the money"

But maybe the Back Boris crew could explain Wink

Maybe this blog helps a bit

From DAG's blog -

"At the heart of this government is a sense of lawlessness – that in area after area there is the view that rules do not and should not apply."

Yes! Hiding their shenanigans under a blanket of sovereignty. Why would anyone trust them?

BoreOfWhabylon · 16/06/2022 15:12

Thank you @DuncinToffee

balalake · 16/06/2022 16:44

I am surprised any ethics advisor lasted as long as he did. Boris Johnson's only connection with ethics and morals is that he knows the words in more than one language.

Zonder · 16/06/2022 17:10

Thanks for the new thread. It's like an oasis of sanity amidst the madness.

ClaudineClare · 16/06/2022 17:16

But maybe the Back Boris crew could explain

They seem to have gone to ground. Maybe they have name changed and are busy frothing on the Rwanda thread...

DuncinToffee · 16/06/2022 19:16

I was wondering, especially after the reaction to a Paul Brand tweet I posted......

prettybird · 16/06/2022 19:18

In one respect I agree with BJ reviewing the need for an "independent" ethics advisor.

Given that he doesn't listen to him (or possibly her Wink), what's the point in having one Hmm

DuncinToffee · 16/06/2022 19:20

Cornettoninja as an answer to your post on the previous thread, I thought you might enjoy the latest Rosie Holt

"Reviewing the situation"

Wasn't that what Fagan sang about when you to no good in Oliver?!
