However I suspect that this will put renewed pressure on Johnson - not that it will make him do the decent thing.

What this result does demonstrate is the power of tactical voting. A lot of Labour voters evidently voted LD to ensure that the Conservative party lost the seat.

Sky News are saying round about 12.5% swing in Wakefield.

Greta comment on bbc 1 from a interviewee.

He said Johnson needs to stop focussing on "we did ......." because it may be true he got an odd call right but the electorate are clearly saying this doesn't matter for the future.

Not sure I agree with Polly Mackenzie saying that Johnson not giving up is "in some ways admirable@

Perhaps they should have held off on the VONC. I think the T & H result will create a good few nervous MPs and put Johnson under increased pressure though.

Nearly 30% swing in Tiverton and Honiton and 12.7% in Wakefield.

Apparently in Wakefield the spin is “Labour should have won by more”. 🙄

Thing with holding off is it would have been difficult to choreograph it until after today because MPs wouldn't know how many letters were in. As far as I can tell Graham Brady would have to inform Johnson that enough letters had come in as soon as?

I wonder if some of the no confidence letters were from Johnson loyalists in a bid to get it out of the way before the by elections..
