Oh I’m fully expecting her to be exasperating @Roussette, I’m just fascinated by the insight into how his closer circle likely communicate with him. It’s like a real-time backstage pass to a developing dictator.

SueSaid · 17/06/2022 09:36

'Janiie! How are you this glorious 🌞 morning?'

"Decline comes before a fall. We are witnessing the decline part of Call-me-Churchill's fall right now.'

Oh I'm fine thanks! shorts on, just wiping down the slightly rusty barbecue for later.

We aren't witnessing anything of the kind. Anyway, as always thank God he was at the wheel the last 2 years and not the hapless motley crue opposite. I see Sir Beer is trying his hand at comedy. Imagine the froth if Bozo had called someone else say like Blackford Jabba the Hut. It would have been fatshaming outrage galore on here!

Nothing other than insults and misnaming to add to the debate, then @JaniieJones. Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.

'Nothing other than insults and misnaming to add to the debate'

I know! I mean Jabba the Hutt. Just awful.

Still missing the point that if you yourself indulge in the name calling, passing comment on others doing it is hypocritical and immediately makes your superior comments on others ridiculous.

Name call away, but at least face that you, you personally, are no better and in no position to hand wring over the awfulness of name calling.

Rachel Johnston is a damaged individual like her big brother (don't know about their younger brothers), who was also subject to a dysfunctional upbringing. Their father Stanley was not/is not a nice person, with all the arrogance and self-centredness that BJ exhibits (like father, like son). It's no wonder that their mother had delicate mental health Sad

Booklover3 · 17/06/2022 10:29

when do we think he will leave? What will it actually take?

And I dont suppose Stanley giving her a black eye and a broken nose helped

ClaudineClare · 17/06/2022 10:33

I agree with Janiie for once. The Jabba the Hutt comment was a nasty slur. On Jabba the Hutt.

Peregrina · 17/06/2022 10:48

We haven't heard much lately about Sir Keir Starmer's supposedly breaking lockdown. Unless there is something in today's news. I missed the announcement about his senior advisor resigning saying he could have no part in it.

DuncinToffee · 17/06/2022 10:57

Radio 4 was saying that Lord Geidt was due to publish his report on the flat refurbishment, will that still go ahead or brushed under the carpet.

Can’t answer the timescale part but I predict that he and his cronies, will get carried away with their own sense of self importance and untouchability and screw over someone behind the scenes, possibly a donor, which will lead directly to their downfall.

At the moment they’re busy cultivating their public base by reigniting the ‘remainer’ enemy trope, chartering empty flights and rewriting history to make people think that ‘uman rights weren’t a result of the ‘blitz spirit’ generation. This base seem happy to look up and be shit on from a great height so I’m not sure what it will take for the extremists to realise that even if they think they’re part of the tories the tories certainly don’t think they are.

I’m pretty wedded to the idea that moderate tories need to fully break away and stand as a separate party. I would actually consider voting Tory just to squash the extremists that have taken them them over.

Blossomtoes · 17/06/2022 11:02

Did anyone see the Wakefield Tory candidate comparing the party to Shipman? They must be tearing their hair out in Downing Street. 😂

Roussette · 17/06/2022 11:08

It all went to pot when BJ expelled all the moderate (and some decent) Tories to push Brexit through. It means something when UKIPers and Britain First decamp to the Tories

There are some horrible MPs at the moment like that scary and vile Gullis. I think his days will be numbered at the next GE, he has nosedived in his constituency. Perhaps next GE will seep out the likes of Bone and Fabricant and dare I say it, Mogg

I was completely gobsmacked to see my MP,.Tory in my constituency for 30 years, and on 1922 committee, voted against BJ in the VONC. Things must be REALLY bad for him to do this which leads me to think BJs days are numbered.

AmaryIlis · 17/06/2022 11:15

In its way, it's fascinating to watch how he is constitutionally incapable of keeping himself out of trouble. After everything that's been happening, anyone with half a brain cell would decide to keep his head down as far as possible and act scrupulously by the book. But Boris decides to ask his ethics adviser - who he knows full well is pretty thoroughly pissed off - whether it's OK to do something that blatantly breaks the Ministerial Code. And then he wonders why said adviser resigns.

It's a long-running, horrible car crash.

Cornettoninja · 17/06/2022 11:21

@AmaryIlis but he’s got ‘get the job done’ so he can’t just keep his head down, he has to make a massive show of ‘action’. Unfortunately for us he’s literally incapable of politics or taking advice so bulldozes his way through anything and everything perusing even the worst plans and then washing his hands of the consequences.

His core voter base love this and think it’s a display of no-nonsense because they don’t have the skill set to navigate the various paths of consequence they trigger. When things go (badly) wrong they can just turn around and point the finger at those that pointed out the pitfalls before they started and tantrum how everything would have been fine if we’d all just loved them enough.

Roussette · 17/06/2022 11:23

Yes it is fascinating but shame I can't watch from the sidelines!

Ethics is just another scandal in a very very long list of many
I could list them all here but it'll just depress me

How predictable that supporters of BJ can only attack the opposition as a way of answering anything on here. Everything is ignored but it's all 'just imagine what it would've been like if the 'motley crue' had been in power!

And we'll never know will we? Could have been ten times better or worse. We do know however that it's been 12 years and we've sunk so low with this under qualified nasty law breaking lot

Notonthestairs · 17/06/2022 11:54

Suggesting Starmer deliberately failed to prosecute Savile is all part of the cut and thrust of political life.

Suggesting Johnson is behaving similarly to a fictional character in a sci-fi film is offensive.

Who knew?

Notonthestairs · 17/06/2022 11:57

NEW: Boris Johnson has cancelled a Wakefield by-election campaign visit and Q&A with Northern Tories today.

Sounds like the order came down from the top last night - CCHQ and No10 people are baffled.

Today had been marked out in the No10 grid as "LEADERSHIP".
twitter.com/Tony_Diver/status/1537750840945016832?s=20&t=qc76SREj23OsHsKLW5ffIQ

Simply can't think why they don't want to wheel out the Big Dog.

Notonthestairs · 17/06/2022 12:06

Noted that Tony Diver says the order came from "the top". But CCHQ & Downing Street are 'baffled".
So who do we think the top is? Donors?

Blossomtoes · 17/06/2022 12:07

He knew what kind of reception he’d get. I see someone’s already suggested he’s hiding in a fridge.

it probably came from BJ himself, I get the feeling he doesn’t see why others should be kept informed of his plans.

I’ve just realised, Janiie thought the Jabba the Hut reference was about Boris’s unfortunate appearance - no Janiie it was a comparison to politically corrupt gangster character who was ultimately the architect of his own demise. I can see why your mind immediately made the appearance connection though - easy mistake.

Notonthestairs · 17/06/2022 12:20

In fairness it is very warm in parts of the UK today so maybe hiding in a fridge is a sensible precaution.
