BJ is bribing them. Positions in government, peerages and money for their constituencies. He really is revolting isn't he

The DFail just tweeted this...... has he lost them too?

"This will not ease nerves in Downing Street...
By 12:16pm, Theresa May had got to the public backing of the 158 Tory MPs she needed to win confidence vote
It is now 1pm and Boris Johnson is only up to 82"

DuncinToffee · 06/06/2022 13:29

Yikes. Have a read of this. Dorries's weasly little plot to diss Hunt may have spectacularly backfired

Deliver, deliver, deliver - they sound like Hermes.

it’s very interesting that there’s not much variation on his achievements listed. Lots of vague ‘he got the big decisions right’ …. Errrr which ones are they then? The deals he personally signed and is reneging on? The time sensitive lockdowns? The energy crisis that was warned of last Christmas?

No, vaccines which an alien would be forgiven for thinking he’d personally developed and jabbed in each citizens arm and pushing ahead with a crap Brexit deal which is so far from done it’s not even in the metaphorical oven yet.

I suppose making up a role for Randall Boggs as Brexit opportunities minister was pretty ballsy given his best to date is asking people for their ideas (because he hasn’t got a scooby)

Roussette · 06/06/2022 13:39

This from Jon Sopel BBC

"HM the Queen yesterday: “I hope this renewed sense of togetherness will be felt for many years to come.”
Nadine Dorries this morning to Jeremy Hunt: “your duplicity right now is destabilising the party and country to serve your own personal ambition.”

Aah well. #Toryleadership"

Shock

But they came up with a list! Crowns on pint glasses (always allowed) and very sucky vacuums!

Notonthestairs · 06/06/2022 13:49

It would be far too easy and convenient to write off Dorries as a loose canon and therefore not a true representative of Johnson's party but she's in the Cabinet and I think it is just as likely that she wrote that thread under instructions.

"Red Wall MPs saying they believe the PM will call an early election if he loses tonight's confidence vote, staffers being warned about GE prep"

https://twitter.com/hoffmannoa/status/1533788081052012544?s=21&t=RmqWx20Aohh_6AYoZIAPp6w

Is this at all feasible? Can a PM who has lost the support of his MPs call an election? It seems ridiculous.

I've got to say, that's my dream outcome. As a patriot I want Johnson out of number 10 along with his hangers on ASAP rather than continuing to wreak havoc on the moral centre of the country for another 30-odd months. But as a left of centre voter I'm dreading the idea that the Conservatives might magically find a voter-friendly replacement from somewhere.

A 50/50ish split VONC followed by a Nero-style snap election is by far the best outcome for Labour.

ClaudineClare · 06/06/2022 14:33

I don't think Labour would win a GE outright, though. It would be a hung Parliament.

AmaryIlis · 06/06/2022 14:35

ClaudineClare · 06/06/2022 10:57

A lot will hang on the red wall MPs. I expect Johnson is currently promising them the moon on a stick.

They only have to look at current polling in Wakefield to realise that he doesn't have the power to keep any promises.

SNP/Labour alliance should be pretty straightforward though.

I need to read through it properly but my initial reaction is disgust at how the nation was banded together to wish that pos well.

If true, it’s further proof how Boris uses other peoples morals against them.

Notonthestairs · 06/06/2022 15:10

@HeritageVegetable sorry I wasn't clear - I meant in practical terms could a PM call an election after losing a VONC. I wondered if he/she would need % Commons approval.

But I had forgotten the Dissolution and Calling of Parliament Act 2022. He can call one and advise the Queen accordingly.

Notonthestairs · 06/06/2022 15:16

Rebels claiming they have 150 votes - 30 short.

I've watched and read it all now

Basically HE LIED. He said he 'nearly died'. Ministers parroted this endlessly
Because of FOI it's been proved he didn't nearly die. When he realised the cat was out the bag it turned from 'nearly died' to 'i got it really mild'

So this in a way is nothing new in that we know HE LIES

You don't know much about Scottish politics

prettybird · 06/06/2022 15:31

Labour can't/won't work with the SNP.

Even if that means cutting off their nose to spite their face c
