Seasalt - why the Mumsnet love?

I'm just not feeling it. I keep seeing mumsnetters raving about Seasalt clothes but I can never see anything remotely stylish on their website. Am I missing something?

Most people on Mumsnet are 40-50.

JanisMoplin · 22/04/2022 12:44

I take the Tube almost daily and given how hot and stuffy it gets, am increasingly beginning to prioritise comfy, breathable clothes which are easy to move in, over stylish ones. Not sure that is only Seasalt. But looking at Thought, Community Clothing and other brands that are natural fabrics only.

I like that they have a tall range, their coats are very good and also some in tall. I also buy the trousers and tunics as they suit my shape which is a bit past it's best now

I bought this one. I like their vintage-ish styles

I've got a couple of their coats - one of them is very ugly but the best thing ever for a wet winter walk; the other is dull but inoffensive and useful.

Their clothes aren't really my thing at all, although I've got one sundress that I'm fond of.

I really, really rate their boots though.

desiringonlychild2022 · 22/04/2022 12:47

I am not really looking to be stylish lol. I just bought the midi seed packet dress from Seasalt. I just want a comfortable dress with sleeves that I can just throw on and wear all year round (longer sleeves for winter/autumn weather, short sleeves for summer). Preferably in a pretty print. My entire wardrobe consists of such dresses and I only wear shorts for exercise. I put a jumper/blazer and tights on when it's cold.

I am in my 20s but not interested in fashion or looking sexy, just want to be comfortable and throw things on without thinking. I am much more into makeup but also wear the same look everyday- full foundation, contour highlight and blush, copper cream eyeshadow, liquid liner and mascara, but it all looks quite subtle..after all that, I am too tired for fashion lol.

I buy dresses from joules, Boden, seasalt, monsoon and a few others

SalsaLove · 22/04/2022 12:48

I just left the thread and bought a Seasalt dress for my summer holiday. 😆

LouB76 · 22/04/2022 12:51

Ok, I do like that raincoat, nice and plain 😁. I think Seasalt is too fussy and floral for me. Dresses with pockets? Gah 😬

Surely MN does not shop as one with a Unimind and a shared credit card?

Sometimes it seems like that.

I've been on H&M shopping monochrome.

I wish I shared a credit card with all the “we both earn six figures” people who post on here.

I wouldn't want to be sharing anyone else's mind but I wouldn't sharing their credit card. But not at Seasalt. 😉

I'm 43 but I'm still not feeling the Seasalt love. Most of it looks like stuff my mum would wear.

A lot of posters are obsessed with natural fibres and Seasalt are good for that.

Myself, I CBA to iron and I am usually cold so synthetic fibres are all good

Badger1970 · 22/04/2022 12:58

I've got several of their coats, they are amazing.

I'm a bit meh about the clothes. I never seem to get the right fit.... too big on the shoulders and not big enough on the tummy/hips. Or the dresses absolutely drown me.

SockFluffInTheBath · 22/04/2022 13:10

I’ve got a Breton style t-shirt from seasalt and a tall dress (nice they realise the body needs to be longer as well as the skirt & sleeves). It’s not really my thing but they have the odd bit I like.

Badlifeday · 22/04/2022 13:11

I'm still waiting for the first appearance of the "f" word, so nice not to see it!

LouraLoura · 22/04/2022 13:25

There's one of these every months, I am sure the company start them Grin

I am surprised they create so much depth of emotion amongst middle aged women (like myself) when they're so bloody ordinary. It's just not worth caring about is it? I do like a good chinwag about clothes though, but Seasalt gets far too much attention here for what it is. It's neither offensive, bad or silly. But neither is it very interesting.

JanisMoplin · 22/04/2022 13:26

As I round 50, I am beginning to see a yawning gap between the clothes I like and the clothes I can wear. I like a lot of Cos but I look like a fool in them despite being only a size 12. I can't explain. I think those poufy principal boy sleeves look wrong on me.

darlingdodo · 22/04/2022 13:29

I'm very tall. And not slim. Their tunic tops are brilliant. And pockets. Pockets!

I have 3 of the tunic tops, all bought in the sales. They wash well, don't need ironing. Wear them all the time.

Repetitivebeats · 22/04/2022 13:30

My mum and my sister are both into Seasalt. It's not really my style but I like what they buy on them, if that makes sense! The clothes are well made, usually natural fibres and wash well. And my sister is plus size and the clothes actually seem to be cut well for a larger figure. She has a winter coat from there that looks lovely on her.
So yeah, it's not for me but it's no great surprise why people like it so much.

PuppyMonkey · 22/04/2022 13:34

OP to have seen the MN “love” for Seasalt, I take it you have been in all the Seasalt threads there have been recently which are usually full of people saying they HATE Seasalt.Confused

OctopusSay · 22/04/2022 13:35

I'm not particularly fond of the Seasalt "look" but for individual items as part of an outfit with other things, the quality and comfort really is excellent.
