Boris has been fined - Tory voters, should he go?

NewYorker80 · 12/04/2022 13:43

Both Johnson and Sunak have received fines for the lockdown parties. No further details as yet.

Do any Conservative voters here think Boris should resign?

It's a nonsense to suggest only Johnson can lead the Conservatives.
Last weeks (2/4) Conservatives Home members poll ranked Wallace, Zahawi, Trevelyan and then Truss Not a surprise to see Wallace got 80%+ satisfaction for the job he's doing. I'm not a Conservative voter but he's been excellent.
Johnson was down at 16th (out of negative figures though!!)

Wonder what their poll will say this week.

elitecomplainer · 12/04/2022 15:27

Now he really needs a big war to be remembered by (he is doing his best to get involved, no thought to the young UK men and women who will die for his vanity/legacy project/rewriting how history will remember him as the Covid PM, when he wants to be Churchill II).

Piggywaspushed · 12/04/2022 15:27

@Franklin12

Boris appeals to people. Starmer quite honestly seems stuck up and out of touch. He is also Sir Kier and seems rather lightweight. As I said up thread. Until there is another Blair Labour will keep stabbing themselves in the back and lose and lose again.

Do I think these parties were wrong. Of course. But if I am really honest the moment has gone to make this a big thing anymore. We have more important things to concern ourselves with, cost of living, whether Le Pen will get in, Urkraine etc.

I do think though they need to do something with Patel. What a waste of space and she looks and sounds the part, first women of colour in a Ministers position (I think) but she is blooming awful. Hasnt sorted out the boats in the channel and the weather is getting better so she should be watching out for this.

State educated Starmer is stuck up? Out of touch?

Goodness me. I didn't know Boris was so - well- like one of us.

You do know why he is SIR Keir, right??

carefullycourageous · 12/04/2022 15:28

I agree with Peston's analysis - this is so much more serious than a party political issue. I love Britain. I want standards in government.

As for Boris appeals to people - current opinion polls do not bear this out, and that was before the fines landed and despite Ukraine.

AlexaShutUp · 12/04/2022 15:28

State educatedStarmeris stuck up? Out of touch?

The irony!Shock

He’s run the country’s defence down to the point where we couldn’t fight a skirmish let alone a war.

I suspect not...
TheDogsMother · 12/04/2022 15:29

thank you @Roussette. That is well written and impossible to argue with.

Notonthestairs · 12/04/2022 15:29

Thanks Rousette.

Justcallmebebes · 12/04/2022 15:29

No, I don't think he should resign. Who do you suppose should take over?

ilovesooty · 12/04/2022 15:31

@Franklin12

Labour really dont want to be in government..... they dont want the responsibility. Look at them putting forward Corbyn et al. Did they really think that would win it for them? They messed up big time. Couldnt decide whether they were for or against Brexit, nationalising BT and in one swoop trashing all the other 600 ISP's.

And now they are unclear what a women is. I cannot see Corby or Starmer doing what Boris did re going to Urkraine. Starmer wanted lockdown after lockdown.

Oh here we go...

"But Corbyn" Hmm

And "Boris knows what a woman is" Hmm

Franklin12 · 12/04/2022 15:31

I agree Not. There are others in the wing. Zahawi is good, comes across as modest but speaks in a direct way. I am not sure about his business dealings though. I think there is more to come out on that one.

Wallace has been excellent in his area of expertise but not sure about rolling with the punches if he was PM. Boris is a master of this whether you like him or not. My DH said a number of months ago he was toast. I said he will survive but of course one day he will go. Just not yet. I have seen Truss speak live. I wasnt impressed. Gove was the best speaker of all, laughed at himself, funny but suspect his private life is rather interesting and if he puts himself in the firing line digging will be done.

"Until there is another Blair ....." Shoot me now.
Electrox · 12/04/2022 15:31

No. A simple drink in the garden is nothing compared to what various other leaders have done. Boris has his good points such as being more than willing to liaise with the Ukranian leader, oh and he knows what a woman is.

ilovesooty · 12/04/2022 15:32

@Roussette

Hansard record has Sunak saying on 7th December to parliament

"No. I did not attend any parties"

So he lied as well.
Calennig · 12/04/2022 15:32

Ideally he'd go - I just don't think he will.

I'm more a floating voter than anything.

I agree with pp the whole woman rights issue isn't as wide spread an issue as some on MN suggest - despite it's importance - however the bumbling answers do make Labour people look thick and people do notice that and teh topic is starting to get traction in main stream media.

I've no idea if he went who else we'd get - it won't be a general election which given state of Labour may well be in their best interests - give them time to get their act together.

derxa · 12/04/2022 15:32

I don't want Angela Rayner anywhere near power

TokyoSushi · 12/04/2022 15:32

They're going to say 'he's so vital to trying to sort out the war in Ukraine that we're just going to brush this under the carpet' aren't they? Sigh.

Dimondsareforever · 12/04/2022 15:33

I am generally a Tory voter. And I am torn.

Yes he should go …. Absolutely. It’s an absolute joke the rules we were put under whilst he and Co broke them.

However, there are some things he is quite good at and I can’t imagine anyone else being as good.

I don’t think now is the right time with everything else going on in the world.

He needs to go before the next GE though. That’s for sure. However, at the same time, I don’t see how he can stay?

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 12/04/2022 15:33

I've come to the conclusion that if Boris Johnson had been caught buggering Prince Philip's corpse in St George's chapel, then Tory supporters here would claim that a Labour leader would have done so twice.

itsgettingweird · 12/04/2022 15:33

Thanks rousette that's a very interesting thread. Pretty much what I was saying unthread about how com earning it is if this is let go. Not just for the politics of our future but because it shows how disenfranchised those in the UK are with Polk it a they can't be bothered anymore. When we can't be bothered with standards we are at risk.

Everyone who wants him to stay goes on about Ukraine. But Ukraine wouldn't be happening without a leader who's managed to get into power and run an autocracy because the people were disenfranchised decades ago. And he's managed to change politics so it's almost impossible to vote him out. Have people forgotten about how the Tories have tried to bring in the same re passport proof etc?

TooBigForMyBoots · 12/04/2022 15:33

There are loads of Conservatives in the HoC to choose from: Nadine Dorries Crispin Blunt Jamie Wallis Penny Mordaunt Priti Patel

😂😂😂

What are these things?
