Boris has been fined - Tory voters, should he go?

NewYorker80 · 12/04/2022 13:43

Both Johnson and Sunak have received fines for the lockdown parties. No further details as yet.

Do any Conservative voters here think Boris should resign?

I did wonder what the trip to Kiev was really about.

Changechangychange · 12/04/2022 14:05

@painauraisin

Of course not, don't you know there's a war on?There are bigger things to worry about!

Sorry, just getting in first. Of course he should go but he won't.

And at least he knows what a woman is, and Corbyn something or other, look a squirrel! Clav can keep her feet up Grin

He won’t resign. It’s now obvious why he stabbed Sunak in the back last week and why he went swanning off to Ukraine - he will have known this was about to come out.

There is literally nothing that would make this fucker resign. Even if he was convicted of paedophilia or something, his cheerleaders would insist he was fine to carry on governing from prison.

Lottapianos · 12/04/2022 14:06

'I know he has got charisma for some peope, but that part of my brain must be missing because I just don't get it!:

Jesus, me too. I find him absolutely repulsive. A proven liar, a self-serving lazy incompetent waste of space. The buffoon act was always the thinnest of veneers and was never very funny anyway, but seriously, WHO is still laughing?! It's like a cult

Of course he should go, he should never have been near power in the first place. He will brazen it out though, I'm sure of it

Not a Tory voter (or aligned to any party in particular) but he absolutely should go.

He won’t though. Ten years ago he would have been out on his arse a long ago (proroguing parliament anyone?) but apparently we’ve decided our standards were too high for expectations of the individual in the highest office in the land. Now we’re all meant to be scared it’ll be worse without him - it’s gaslighting on a massive scale. Would it likely still be shit - yes. Worse? Doubt it, bar Trump claiming he has a right to sit in parliament.

Paging Crispin Blunt

SpaghettiSquash · 12/04/2022 14:08

He won't go. I can't abide Johnson but I'm not sure that a leadership contest or even a general election is desirable at this point. We are possibly on the brink of WW3 and I just don't think the alternatives (be it leader or party) are any better. What a thoroughly depressing thought.

NightmareSlashDelightful · 12/04/2022 14:09

Not a Conservative voter

but

I don't think he'll resign.

I do, however, think that Sir Graham B will be keeping an eye on his post again over the next few days.

drivinmecrazy · 12/04/2022 14:09

It's not about who should replace him it's about who wants a proven liar to lead the country.
This goes way beyond party politics.
He's a liar in parliament , to the people and the police.
I don't care if my cat becomes PM.
I'd rather that than a liar 😡

Cornettoninja · 12/04/2022 14:10

@TooBigForMyBoots

Of course he should go. He should have gone a long time ago, but Tory voters want him, particularly New Conservatives. I think sunk-cost fallacy is at play.
I think it goes back to brexit. Leave never expected to win and didn’t really anticipate the exodus of those expected to carry the Tory party over the next ten years.

It’s a fluke that Boris and his mates are in office, though they’d like us to think otherwise.

ENoeuf · 12/04/2022 14:11

Of course he won’t go. And there are enough voters who love him and think it’s all nothing to worry about and who cares about parties, poor bloke, like to see you doing better in a pandemic, bet you broke a few rules, he must be doing something right blah blah blah.

Poppyliveshere · 12/04/2022 14:14

@JemimaTiggywinkle

Link to the story? How have you come across such breaking news before it’s reported in the media?
BBC News!! Hmm
itsgettingweird · 12/04/2022 14:15

Just saw this on sky breaking news. Came straight to MN to find the thread.

He should go. So should Sunak. And not just for the parties.

I'm here to see if those who defended them to the hilt and where all about the whataboutery will return. Lots of people said they'd reserve judgement until fines were distributed.

I'd like to know if those people now think they should resign. After all it's been proven they broke the law.

valerianaofficiana · 12/04/2022 14:17

Absolutely not. This party-gate nonsense has had its day, Labour couldn't catch fish in a barrel, evidently.
I'm not Tory voter, however, Boris is handling the current situation well, it's his Churchillean moment and he's rising to it. Europe needs an outspoken leader who is very much setting the tone and pushing for military help/commitments from EU.
Ukraine needs a champion like Boris now.
I know all about the horrible lockdown experiences so many in UK had, the loved ones dying alone, no goodbyes etc. It was heartbreaking and the parties at No10 were callous and crass on every level.
But ... there's a war not far from us and people are dying every hour.
Boris has a role to play in supporting Ukrainian fighters who are protecting all of us.
I will not return to this thread as fully expecting an onslaught and pile-on and I will not be responding.
Have said my peace.

LeftFootForward · 12/04/2022 14:18

I've never voted Tory, but I intend to in the next election so not sure that makes me Tory voter....however, no, I don't think either of them should resign. What would be the point? The only people who want this to happen are the Labour Party and I stopped respecting them along time ago.

jackstini · 12/04/2022 14:20

No

Nobody decent enough to replace them and if everyone that broke Covid rules was fired then a large chunk of the country would be out of work

Seriously bored of it now - they have more important things to do and we could have spent the investigation money on helping people that really need it

freebritknee · 12/04/2022 14:21

Yes he should go.

He makes the rules.

He leads this country.

He should lead by example.

He broke the rules.

He thought he was above the rules.

He has been found out.

He should not be able to get away with it.

But no, he probably won't.

itsgettingweird · 12/04/2022 14:23

We could have also not wasted billions on his Kate's who couldn't deliver the PPE.

He could have also put as much effort o to protecting our own countrymen and woman who died alone from covid whilst he partied with his mates.

The problem seems to be that people in Britain are so disenfranchised now with our politics that'll they accept any old crap leader who can do opportunist photo shoots because it's the easiest option.

Roussette · 12/04/2022 14:23

Have said my peace

Well... yes. There'll be no peace in this country until he is gone.

however, no, I don't think either of them should resign. What would be the point? The only people who want this to happen are the Labour Party and I stopped respecting them along time ago

The point? How about upholding the law, ethics and morality for starters.
And no. It isn't just the 'Labour party'. It's floating voters, LDs, Greens and anyone who expects decent law abiding people to run the country.
That's the point.

Roussette · 12/04/2022 14:24

This party-gate nonsense has had its day

With you maybe. Not with a huge amount of people. But you keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel better

jowly · 12/04/2022 14:25

I would say yes he should resign, but there is no one to replace him with.

Not a party or an individual. All as bad as one another.

So maybe just concentrate on the bigger things

Wannabangbang · 12/04/2022 14:26

The whole party should go. A re election is in order.

AlexaShutUp · 12/04/2022 14:26

I have written to my (Tory) MP again, to ask if she will has confidence in the PM. I will be interested to see if she still tries to wriggle out of the question. The last time I wrote to her, she said that she was waiting for the outcome of the Sue Gray report. Not much point in waiting for that now. Hmm

SockFluffInTheBath · 12/04/2022 14:27

Not a Tory voter.

They SHOULD go but I don’t expect they will. And who will make them? Does Starmer have it in him to force a GE?

LeftFootForward · 12/04/2022 14:27

@Roussette

Have said my peace

Well... yes. There'll be no peace in this country until he is gone.

If it helps I don't have any time for the Lib Dems or Greens either 🙂
Roussette · 12/04/2022 14:29

All as bad as one another

I hate hate hate this phrase. What a cop out.
Translated it means... yes, let's just accept any old crap because all 650 MPs are equally bad.

Hint.... they're not.
There are some very good MPs out there, there are even a few who are Conservatives! And to say 'all as bad as one another' is just apathetic.

(I am not getting at you personally, I just had a heated discussion with a couple in RL, and the best they could do was 'they're all as bad as one another' and it rankled)
