Boris has been fined - Tory voters, should he go?

Both Johnson and Sunak have received fines for the lockdown parties. No further details as yet.

Do any Conservative voters here think Boris should resign?

I work with well educated, predominantly female, professional people and their view is overwhelmingly that diversity and equality is a good thing and if that means the loss of female spaces, so be it.

Or are they just afraid to say what they really think?

CapMarvel · 12/04/2022 15:34

@Franklin12

Boris appeals to people. Starmer quite honestly seems stuck up and out of touch. He is also Sir Kier and seems rather lightweight. As I said up thread. Until there is another Blair Labour will keep stabbing themselves in the back and lose and lose again.

Do I think these parties were wrong. Of course. But if I am really honest the moment has gone to make this a big thing anymore. We have more important things to concern ourselves with, cost of living, whether Le Pen will get in, Urkraine etc.

I do think though they need to do something with Patel. What a waste of space and she looks and sounds the part, first women of colour in a Ministers position (I think) but she is blooming awful. Hasnt sorted out the boats in the channel and the weather is getting better so she should be watching out for this.

This has nothing to do with Labour at all. The question of who would replace Boris as PM is irrelevant when it comes to whether a PM who not only broke the law but then went to parliament and misled the house about breaking the law should resign.

And of course he should, otherwise as already noted we effectively have an elected dictator with no accountability and not a functioning democracy.

Roussette · 12/04/2022 15:34

Here is the footage of Sunak in parliament saying he did not attend any parties.
I am SO disappointed in him. I knew BJ was a liar. I just did not imagine Sunak was too. Naive I know.

@Justcallmebebes

No, I don't think he should resign. Who do you suppose should take over?
Should Putin stay in power too then because we don't have someone lined up to take over?

That's such a weak argument.

Does the Head teacher convicted of sexual abuse of schoolchildren stay in power because there's a head teacher shortage?

Does the security guard convicted of GBh stay in the position because there's no one else to take over?

Being PM should make you less above the law than anyone else - not the sole person above it.

theDudesmummy · 12/04/2022 15:35

Starmer is out of touch? Said in the context of a thread that is actually about Eton-educated Bullingdon member Johnson? Eh?

CapMarvel · 12/04/2022 15:35

@Dimondsareforever

I am generally a Tory voter. And I am torn.

Yes he should go …. Absolutely. It’s an absolute joke the rules we were put under whilst he and Co broke them.

However, there are some things he is quite good at and I can’t imagine anyone else being as good.

I don’t think now is the right time with everything else going on in the world.

He needs to go before the next GE though. That’s for sure. However, at the same time, I don’t see how he can stay?

Seriously, what is he good at?

He's a fucking clown.

Calennig · 12/04/2022 15:35

I don't want Angela Rayner anywhere near power

More I see her in action - more I think this as well.

Charles11 · 12/04/2022 15:35

All the covid rules were such a mess. When I look back on that time, I feel quite stressed about the lockdowns and what we went through but I also feel relieved that we didn’t go as mad as so many other countries did.
I’m thankful to our government for that.
For that reason, I’m ok with him staying because I dread someone who’s more authoritarian.

DGRossetti · 12/04/2022 15:36

100% correlation between people who don't think Boris should resign, and people who lost their shit when the Colston 4 were acquitted.

Tells me all I need to know really.

ilovesooty · 12/04/2022 15:37

@AlexaShutUp

It's amazing how many Tory apologists seem happy to shrug off the PM's rule breaking with completely unsubstantiated claims that "they were all at it", as if that somehow lets him off the hook.

If Keir Starmer has been fined for breaching the lockdown rules, then I'm sure that we will hear about it, and at that point, I will call for him to resign. In the meantime, you wishing that this had happened doesn't make it so.

Johnson and Sunak both broke the law. No amount of whataboutery or minimising will change this basic fact.

Agreed. As far as I am concerned anyone defending Johnson remaining in office has no moral compass - just as he hasn't.

Yes, the rules weren't as difficult to follow as in some other countries but still those that made them weren't able to follow them.
Roussette · 12/04/2022 15:37

I have no idea. Maybe Wallace.
BJ is so so awful, any one of them would be better

MoggyCentral · 12/04/2022 15:37

I don't want him to go. I think he's doing great on Ukraine - Zelenskys deputy said he was Ukraines greatest friend amd had given more help than any other country. And seeing reports that are coming from the WHO, I don't think he did a bad job with covid. Initially I was annoyed about the parties but it was ages ago and I've moved on. It's just not that important.

I didn't think the stuff about his wife was fair but finding out he had a green card did make me think less of him and now this.

The commentators did say he's not that popular in the Tory party - and if Boris goes they'll be ones picking next PM.

Benjispruce4 · 12/04/2022 15:38

He HAS to go. All credibility has gone.

Franklin12 · 12/04/2022 15:39

Hold on a sec. You cannot dismiss Corbyn as though it didnt really happen. Labour put this twit into a leadership position. They voted him in. It was almost like they wanted to spoil it for themselves (and they definitely did).

What I am trying to say is if Labour really thought Corbyn was the one doesnt that show the electorate Labour's way of thinking. Corbyn didnt like the Royal Family, he often didnt even seem to like the UK much. A man who was a backbencher at best suddenly spouting off Marxist nonsense and expecting the UK to accept it. Well they didnt. The UK are a middle leaning country. That is why Blair was very successful.

This shower in Labour are awful. I am not saying that Boris and co couldnt do better - they could and should. But imagine Labour trying to manage the pandemic. They would still be talking about what vaccines to use and would have endless lockdowns to cover themselves. So people vote for the best of a bad job to put it frankly.

She won't be. Even if Labour are elected. You'll never have seen a hollow suit conjured up so fast...
Nat6999 · 12/04/2022 15:40

It's convenient that this news has broken when parliament is in recess, I wish there was PMQ's this week. Boris & Rishi Sunak must resign or be sacked.

I absolutely agree
Hrpuffnstuff1 · 12/04/2022 15:40

I know why don't the whole cabinet resign.
In fact, let's have no conservative party in power at all, everyone should resign.
A big free for all.

FourTeaFallOut · 12/04/2022 15:41

If he has to resign because he got a fine then presumably we'd have to replace him with someone who didn't. Rishi got a fine, so he's out. Gove, Mogg, Truss and Patel? How are they looking?

AlexaShutUp · 12/04/2022 15:41

Why are people on about Corbyn when the headline is that our two most senior members of the government have been fined for breaking the laws that they themselves introduced? Corban is history, it's irrelevant now. Look at the people we have in power now. They are the problem.

TooBigForMyBoots · 12/04/2022 15:41

BUT LAAABOOOUUURRR

I love that argument.😂

Roussette · 12/04/2022 15:42

Initially I was annoyed about the parties but it was ages ago and I've moved on. It's just not that important

So the head of a Government breaking the law is 'not important'?

It's a slippery slope to think like that.

It really, really is important.
