Boris has been fined - Tory voters, should he go?

NewYorker80 · 12/04/2022 13:43

Both Johnson and Sunak have received fines for the lockdown parties. No further details as yet.

Do any Conservative voters here think Boris should resign?

i think i will stop banging my head against this wall as no-one seems to be able to explain why meeting up indoors with a load of people and drinking wasnt a criminal offence but doing it outside was. I know it was investigated.....i am actually not that stupid.

cakeorwine · 12/04/2022 18:23

@JaniieJones

'Oh come on, time to resign from the chairman of the Boris Fan Club. Are you not worn out with it all?'

I'm worn out with the very desperate mud slinging. 10mins in his actual office with his colleagues. Jesus the ridiculousness of it is astounding.

I'm not chairman of any fan clubs thanks.

Johnson says 10 minutes.

If he said it was sunny outside, I would check myself.

Because he is a liar.

Maybe the police should have run their final decisions by you @JaniieJones before they issued any ridiculous fines? If only they were aware of the special timeframe loopholes that you seem to base your many ridiculous arguments on?

I think you don't understand the rules at the time.

The 2020 rules, the 2021 rules and the workplace rules.

TooBigForMyBoots · 12/04/2022 18:28

When it was investigated @dreamingofsun, it was found that at the time KS drank his beer, the rules allowed that. Had he done it some months earlier, he would have been breaking the rules. Keir Starmer did not get a FPN because he acted within the law at the time.

PM Johnson broke the law in place at the time by having parties when he did.

Understand now?

pattish · 12/04/2022 18:29

For those who think he should go (and I’m not saying I don’t), who do you think should replace him?

HarrietPierce7 · 12/04/2022 18:29

"I think you don't understand the rules at the time.

She doesn't and it's like flogging a dead horse.

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 12/04/2022 18:29

Why are people bring Starmer into this. Starmer had a beer at work, while working. Drinking beer at work was not illegal. Social gathering were illegal. Starmer was not at a social gathering. He did not attend an hour long birthday party, he did not get pissed and party until the early hours while playing on the kid's garden equipment, he wasn't trotting off to Aldi with a suitcase to fill with booze, and he didn't have a 'fuck off Cumming ABBA' party in his taxpayer funded flat.

Boris Johnson broke the law. He lied to Parliament about breaking the law. He lied to the public about breaking the law. If you believe in standards in public office then he has to go. It's as simple as that.

DuncinToffee · 12/04/2022 18:29

So Johnson's defense is that he didn't understand his own laws.

pattish · 12/04/2022 18:31

cakeorwine · 12/04/2022 18:33

@DuncinToffee

So Johnson's defense is that he didn't understand his own laws.
So either he was too ignorant not to be aware he was breaking the law or he didn't think the law applied to him?

Which is it, Prime Minister....

That's basically the question I would be asking any Tory Minister or the PM at PMQs

TooBigForMyBoots · 12/04/2022 18:34

@pattish, surely there's one honest, law abiding Tory that could do it. Or is Boris the best they have?😬

worriedatthistime · 12/04/2022 18:34

No he shouldn't as its long gone now and other much more important things happening
If you think he should go then so should every mp that broke the rules and if you broke them yourself send your fine in. ( just because you were not caught )
Its wrong but other pressing things now , we have a GE in a couple years use your ballot then

Hala9 · 12/04/2022 18:36

Of course you should go.

How can he lead our country, be a good role model when he is nothing but a liar. He mislead Parliament, he misled us.

He is morally bankrupt.

BlueEyesWhiteDragon · 12/04/2022 18:38

@Roussette

Don't worry Blue they're doing the fines in chronological order. There's another 6 or 7 parties to be looked at.
Ha. Seeing his response to the question will you get more I am sure there will be and as I said I reserve the right to change my stance when those details come out 😉
worriedatthistime · 12/04/2022 18:39

@BringBackCoffeeCreams but he did push the rules lets not pretend otherwise there were others there as well
Did you go to work and have a beer after with your colleagues?
We have no idea what Boris breach exactly was either that said

Roussette · 12/04/2022 18:40

Good move Blue

Word of the day, is 'maw-worm' (19th century): one who insists that they have done nothing wrong, despite evidence to the contrary.

It might be long gone for you but it's not long gone for people who coldn't see their loved ones because of these rules that Boris made and broke. Maybe think about other people before you declare it's long gone. How lacking in empathy and feeling for other people who stuck to the rules and didn't think the rules were beneath them.
worriedatthistime · 12/04/2022 18:40

@TooBigForMyBoots most if them were guidelines though as opposed to actual laws were they not
No one is getting a criminal record here

He had a work meeting, a break to get food and carried on with the meeting.

All perfectly legal. You were allowed work meetings. You were allowed to have food. In 2021

You do realise it was 2021 - so the law was different

Thank God. I was hoping you’d give up.
cakeorwine · 12/04/2022 18:42

Apparently it was 9 minutes now.
Not 10 minutes.

I wonder if we will ever get to see the party snaps?

Slothtoes · 12/04/2022 18:43

Not a Tory voter but this fine he’s been given for rules he set for others to follow is completely appalling. He’s just absolutely unfit to hold public office (on so many counts). It’s not defensible.

worriedatthistime · 12/04/2022 18:43

@NETSRIK I stuck to the rules so was one of them , many many didn't incl lots on here yet they will also be moaning about this
You don't know me and I can have an opinion and As i said i did think we need the political disruption in the current climate , the next GE we can change that , I know I will be
So maybe read the whole context of what I mean
I never broke the rules and even now I have covid and an isolating etc
Its just too late in my opinion with the current situatuin that is what I'm saying so maybe don't be so judgemental either

Watapalava · 12/04/2022 18:43

I couldn’t care less. Anyone who let the gov keep them from their loved ones is an idiot. I saw family throughout too (as did most people who had their own mind).
