Boris has been fined - Tory voters, should he go?

NewYorker80 · 12/04/2022 13:43

Both Johnson and Sunak have received fines for the lockdown parties. No further details as yet.

Do any Conservative voters here think Boris should resign?

You don't know me and I can have an opinion and As i said i did think we need the political disruption in the current climate , the next GE we can change that , I know I will be
So maybe read the whole context of what I mean
I never broke the rules and even now I have covid and an isolating etc
Its just too late in my opinion with the current situatuin that is what I'm saying so maybe don't be so judgemental either
I will happily judge anyone who thinks this matter is long gone.

Who do you think should replace him?
That's for the Conservative party to decide. It's a really sad state of affairs though if he's the best they've got to offer.

worriedatthistime · 12/04/2022 18:45

@cakeorwine and you do realise its also pushing the rules of course he said it was a work meeting , who could prove otherwise
I had friends who went to the pub for 'work meetings 'when it was allowed too

@NETSRIK i can think what I like you don't have a right to tell me or accuse me of things when you don't know me
We don't all have to agree with you ,

The police investigated. It was at an election event up North.

Are you being deliberately obtuse?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/04/2022 18:47

Isnt it interesting that when you ask labour supporters a fairly easy question they cant/wont answer it and just sling mud at boris and conservative supporters?

I don't disagree, but TBF some Conservative voters do it too, and it seems a reflection of the weird tribalism that infests so much political debate; ask an unwelcome question about someone's "own political party" and it's almost as if you've insulted their grandma

worriedatthistime · 12/04/2022 18:47

@NETSRIK and you don't have a right to tell me what to think about either believe it or not

TooBigForMyBoots · 12/04/2022 18:48

@worriedatthistime, they were not just "regulations", it was the Law. Just as 70mph maximum speed on the motorway is the Law. FPN are given to people who break the Law, like our PM.

@SockFluffInTheBath

I think I’ve missed this Good Work he’s doing in Ukraine that justifies him staying in to play Churchill. Has he put Putin back in his box on the QT?
Totally with you on this. Kyiv was for his own benefit, a diversion.

And just a heads up @worriedatthistime the Starmer whataboutery has been done to death.

worriedatthistime · 12/04/2022 18:50

@cakeorwine no just realistic did he really have to do it in person with drink and food ? I mean i was wfh not seeing colleagues all meetings on teams
Why couldn't he do the same?
So many from both parties did not follow the rules
Goes to show the rules never really made sense at all

Blossomtoes · 12/04/2022 18:50

Of course it was. No photo opp willingly missed. It got him out of Sunak’s hair over the weekend too.

BlueEyesWhiteDragon · 12/04/2022 18:51

@daimbarsatemydogsbone what about the fact he lied about it repeatedly

Did he? I suppose that comes down to is it believable that he didn't think someone popping into his office with some colleagues and a cake and singing happy birthday was a party.

I don't think Boris is as dumb as he likes to portray himself. He uses his bumbling routine as a cover for fuckups. He's clearly going with the I didn't realise defence so I haven't knowingly lied ...

However I have to admit if it had been me in my office and my colleagues who I was working with on a regular basis came in with a cake and we hung round for a few mins I wouldn't class that as a social gathering - I'd have just filed it away as part of the work day.

I suspect that as @Roussette says other parties will come out and the defence will get harder but on this one as a completely isolated incident I wouldn't call for resignation.

That doesn't mean I wouldn't like him to resign for other things but I think the hysteria around this is only playing into his hands and will allow him to ignore other worse things.

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 12/04/2022 18:51
@BringBackCoffeeCreams but he did push the rules lets not pretend otherwise there were others there as well
Did you go to work and have a beer after with your colleagues?
We have no idea what Boris breach exactly was either that said
Which rule did he push?

worriedatthistime · 12/04/2022 18:53

@cakeorwine i have intention if watching your video thanks i did need randoms on the internet to tell me what I should think
I don't agree with what they done, I have 't read the whole context yet , I also don't think starmer drink food meeting was necessary either and was pushing the rules
But also don't think now is the right time to un stabilise things with current situation
Stop trying to tell me what I should think or watch

Oh dear. You don't actually understand what he was doing at the time.

It's also clear you didn't understand the rules or the law.

Here are 2 facts. Not opinions. Facts

Fact 1 - the police investigated Keir Starmer's event and found the law was not broken.

Fact 2- Boris Johnson has been investigated by the police and found to have broken the law. Along with Sunak and other people.

Neverreturntoathread · 12/04/2022 18:54

I don’t understand what the fact that Ukraine is at war with Russia has to do with whether or not Boris Johnson is fired by his party.

BJ is crap at his job. He was a disaster throughout the pandemic, causing thousands of extra deaths by introducing every measure too little too late. Prior to that he corruptly and illegally prorogued parliament to stop it carrying out its function. Now we learn that he is has been fined by the police for partying in lockdown. Of course he must go. All Britain is doing on Ukraine is sending money and equipment. That doesn’t take any great skill, any idiot can sign cheques. If we do find ourselves in WW3 I think it would be a fantastic idea to have a competent leader for that.

I will never vote for BJ. I would like to vote conservative, because of their stance on protecting women’s rights from extremist trans lobby groups, and because Labour, LibDem and Green have all said they will introduce self ID for trans women which effectively abolishes woman’s safe spaces and children’s safeguarding.

So 🤷‍♀️ I wait to see if the conservative party - or any party - can offer me a leader worth voting for.

At the local elections I’ll vote either LibDem or Green to express disappointment in Boris Johnson.

orangeisthenewpuce · 12/04/2022 18:54

I'm a floating voter. No he shouldn't go.

TooBigForMyBoots · 12/04/2022 18:55

Is it a new Conservative thing that Tory supporters should be as mendacious and "pretend thick" as their leader?Confused

Try some critical thinking.

Oh - and Thatcher was removed in 1990 during a war where British troops were involved along with British hostages. So it's not exactly without precedent.
