Boris has been fined - Tory voters, should he go?

NewYorker80 · 12/04/2022 13:43

Both Johnson and Sunak have received fines for the lockdown parties. No further details as yet.

Do any Conservative voters here think Boris should resign?

He's broken the ministerial code of conduct...he should be forced to go whether he likes it or not.

That said, I am not a Tory.

SueSaid · 12/04/2022 17:28

'Maybe the ABBA party will turn up more as a pp said'

'And will be your stance then?! If BJ/RS was at that one too?'

Oh I'd join you then. My point has always been workplace gatherings in the workplace with work colleagues in work hours were acceptable and went on up and down the country, comparing them to funerals is neither helpful or relevant. Clearly the Met disagree but I'm sorry 10mins in an office is not a party. Their fpn issuer maybe needs to go on a course.

A proper party in the flat out of work with non work colleges there would clearly be a different matter.

itsgettingweird · 12/04/2022 17:28

@JaniieJones

'I do recall you said on several occasions, recently, that you would change you view on BJ if he was ever found guilty.'

Yes of attending a party. Not this.

I thought there'd been a big knees up in the flat or something according to Cummings? Maybe there's more who knows.

But this is a damp squib and we all know it.

Do you have evidence for what event they have been fined for? Nothing I've read has stated it.

You seem so sure what the event was and how many attended were you there? There must be something printed somewhere you're quoting?

  • There was no party
  • OK, there was a single party but he definitely didn't know about it
  • Maybe there were more parties but he still definitely didn't know about them
  • Oh that? That wasn't a party
  • If there was a party it was definitely legal and within guidelines
  • Well, there was a party, and he was at it, and it was illegal, but it was only a little bit illegal
itsgettingweird · 12/04/2022 17:30

@JaniieJones

'If FPN have been issued then he and Sunak have broken the fucking law. It's really, really simple'

Context. Eating cake in an office, it's not a party. It's 'really really simple'. It's a token fpn.

The msm and the opposition maybe need to take some deep breaths and calm their jets a bit.

Do you have a link to the literature that states the FPN was for eating the birthday cake?

You seem so sure of what it was for and yet nothing I've read says what party it was issued for or how many fines they issued.

SueSaid · 12/04/2022 17:31

'Do you have evidence for what event they have been fined for? Nothing I've read has stated it.'

As I've said it's on Sky news perhaps they've made an error, but 'BJ and Sunak fined over 10 min June cabinet office birthday gathering' seems the theme.

Roussette · 12/04/2022 17:31

"My point has always been workplace gatherings in the workplace with work colleagues in work hours were acceptable*

But the GOVERNMENT put out tweets and statements telling the public NOT to do that

Roussette · 12/04/2022 17:33

Where has it said 10 minutes?
And what about the other seven parties/functions he attended?

theDudesmummy · 12/04/2022 17:33

I didn't break lockdown rules and neither did anyone else in my house. And I live in Ireland, where the rules were way stricter. For a while we got stopped by the gardai if we left a 2km radius without good reason. No, not "everyone" broke the law.

Roussette · 12/04/2022 17:34

I'll answer my own question.
More FPNs will follow no doubt

So he was at the cake party for an hour, not just the 10 minute ambush he claimed.

No. Don't just quote Daily Mirror Journalists as gospel. Yhis one us not that bright. The police said he attended between 14.00 and 15.00. That means he was there some time between those two times not for the whole of the hour!

The straw splitting here is incredible. He was there long enough to be fined.

No ones denying that he was fined for being at a party he shouldn't have been at. But the original poster made out that he lied about it being 10 minutes when in fact it was an hour. I'm just correcting them for repeating facts that aren't true.

dreamingofsun · 12/04/2022 17:35

didnt starmer meet up with work colleagues and drink too during lockdown? There was a photo of him drinking. he also met up pre local elections which they had agreed across parties not to do because of epidemic. why isnt he being fined?

BiggerBoat1 · 12/04/2022 17:37

Not a Tory voter, but of course they should both go. They broke the laws they made!
At least Rishi Sunak had the decency to keep quiet about the whole thing, but Boris Johnson lied over and over again in Parliament when he was asked if he broke any rules.
He is a disgrace. He is undermining Parliament and he has to go.

Because the police investigated and found there was no case.

Because the police investigation concluded he hadn't broken any laws hth.

@Franklin12

Janiie - I agree. People are holier than thou when it suits them and make gross comments when they are complaining about something.

The fact is that the Tories are getting away with this (and I am a Tory voter!) because Labour are so weak. If they were a strong opposition with plenty of ideas and things to say the Tories would be shaking in their shoes but they arent so behaviour like this goes unchallenging.

I see the usual suspects - Sturgeon and Blackford telling the PM to resign - again....the thing is saying resign, resign, resign every sodding time something happens they dont agree with dilutes the word.

It's a very weak argument when you excuse a OM for breaking the law because the opposition are shite too.

How about seeing them all for what they are and having higher standards we expect from our electorate?

dreamingofsun · 12/04/2022 17:40

notonthestairs - interested why there wasnt a case against starmer - they were both meeting with work colleages and drinking. Boris in backgarden and starma on work premises - surely outside was better than inside and starmer was also breaking pre- election meeting rules too - though guess that was just gentleman's agreement rather than law

BiggerBoat1 · 12/04/2022 17:40

Keir Starmer had a takeaway in the office with people he was working with. No other people involved - they simply ordered in food because they needed to eat!

Not the same thing. Police said ages ago there was no case to answer.

LAlady · 12/04/2022 17:43

Was a Tory voter in the past. Although didn't vote for this bunch. As I informed my local Tory association neighbour I couldn't, as Johnson is a liar. Think I've been vindicated well and truly on that score.

Of course he should resign. He is an absolute disgrace.

I'm at my ds swim training so not watching the news! That's probably why I've not seen it!

And are they stating on the news it was definitely just 10 minutes?

dreamingofsun · 12/04/2022 17:44

how come there was a picture of starma drinking beer then? Is it ok if you eat and drink but not ok if you just drink? maybe borris should have served some snacks then he would have been ok?

The police investigated Starmer and found no wrongdoing.
