Boris has been fined - Tory voters, should he go?

NewYorker80 · 12/04/2022 13:43

Both Johnson and Sunak have received fines for the lockdown parties. No further details as yet.

Do any Conservative voters here think Boris should resign?

There were plenty of 'snacks'

@dreamingofsun

notonthestairs - interested why there wasnt a case against starmer - they were both meeting with work colleages and drinking. Boris in backgarden and starma on work premises - surely outside was better than inside and starmer was also breaking pre- election meeting rules too - though guess that was just gentleman's agreement rather than law
One was in 2020 and the other was 2021 when the rules were different.

Both been investigated.

Only Boris found guilty if the 2.

It's really not that hard to comprehend.

ToryWantsBorisOut · 12/04/2022 17:47

Name changed, but yes, of course he should go. I'm the type of Tory who believes in Conservative ideology, but not that power and wealth should trump common decency. So of course I think he should go. Sadly I know many Tories who will facilitate him clinging on to power regardless. I think he could murder babies and they'd still support him just because he's a Tory. For them the other side are demons, ergo, he must be okay because he's a Tory.

Not a Tory voter.

Not even in the UK.

My outside observation is - Boris Johnson is going big fat nowhere.

And it‘a almost charmingly naive to think otherwise.

I’d love to be wrong.

balalake · 12/04/2022 17:48

A reminder that the offence Mr Johnson has been fined for took place was only nine weeks after he had been in intensive care in hospital with Covid 19. If anyone should have heeded the law, someone who had been in intensive care surely would be the first.

andi62 · 12/04/2022 17:49

The core tory vote, which is probably 30% of their vote most times, don't give a stuff what the Tory politicians do, as long as everything is ok in their world, which is why the Tory party have regular electoral success. A success, perhaps, next time in question, not because of their corrupt & amoral, office snogging shenanigans, but because the lower middle income/ lower middle classes are being dragged into the race to the bottom, that will lower their core vote percentage, which could actually for once, cost the fuckers. So they'll be squirming, but they wont be learning. It's just a bump in the road, theirs is the god given right to rule the great unwashed, and throw them crumbs, whilst creating division, inequality and hopelessness, whilst they quaff champagne, eat expensive cakes and laugh behind our fucking backs, at how we've never worked them out.

theDudesmummy · 12/04/2022 17:49

Michael Fucking Fabricant's take:

"I don't think at any time he thought he was breaking the law... he thought just like many teachers and nurses who after a very long shift would go back to the staff room and have a quiet drink".

!!!!!!!!!!

NETSRIK · 12/04/2022 17:49

Useful fact for all the Starmer 'whataboutery' lovers...Starmer was investigated by the police and there were no fines. Boris was investigated by the police and there were.

SmellyOldOwls · 12/04/2022 17:51

@dreamingofsun

how come there was a picture of starma drinking beer then? Is it ok if you eat and drink but not ok if you just drink? maybe borris should have served some snacks then he would have been ok?
Starmer.
mmmmmmghturep · 12/04/2022 17:53

Cant stand Boris but the elephant in the room not being mentioned is how stupid and nonsensical a lot of the rules were.
Scotch egg anyone??!!

UnCivil · 12/04/2022 17:55

@jackstini

No

Nobody decent enough to replace them and if everyone that broke Covid rules was fired then a large chunk of the country would be out of work

Seriously bored of it now - they have more important things to do and we could have spent the investigation money on helping people that really need it

He didn’t just break the rules. He leads the Government that made the rules and told us we had to follow them!

And do you seriously think that the money used for the investigation would ever have been used to help the poor and needy? Honestly?

So we now have such low standards about those in public service? Blatantly hanging on long after anyone with any decency would have resigned and getting away with it cos we are bored?

Of course he should resign but he has no decency so of course he will hang on and his supporters will carry on not giving a shit

Rules created by Boris and his ministers...

baroqueandblue · 12/04/2022 17:56

the thing is saying resign, resign, resign every sodding time something happens they dont agree with dilutes the word.

You know what actually dilutes that word? When some patently guilty c*nt doesn't do the decent thing and fucking resign! Confused

SueSaid · 12/04/2022 17:57

'Starmer was investigated by the police and there were no fines. Boris was investigated by the police and there were.'

Yes we know that. The point is they were doing the exact same thing (indoor mixing wasn't allowed when Starmer did it either except at work which they both were) that is why these FPNs are a bit silly. I'm embarrassed for the Met.

Blackford wants BJ to go. Well what a surprise! 🥱.

Peregrina · 12/04/2022 17:58

Perfectly true, but why then did Johnson's Government with its 80 seat majority not think to pass some more sensible ones?

The rules that he and his circus created and expected everyone else to follow. No elephant there - their circus only features clowns.
OctopusSay · 12/04/2022 17:58

Staner didn't wrote the rules before (if) he broke them and he wasn't the PM at the time. That's the huge difference.

God how bitter you sound and very condescending about hard working people and their choices . Don't forget most of those you deride are paying the benefits of those needing them.

No

baroqueandblue · 12/04/2022 18:02

Michael Fucking Fabricant's take

When the flames are licking your own self-interested arse, blame the nurses and teachers. Tories gonna Tory Hmm

It's like that misguided soul up-thread who excused everything Johnson has done/lied about and said something like, just let him concentrate on saving the NHS. I didn't just spit my coffee out, I guffawed so loudly that my neighbour banged on the wall!

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 12/04/2022 18:03

@dreamingofsun

didnt starmer meet up with work colleagues and drink too during lockdown? There was a photo of him drinking. he also met up pre local elections which they had agreed across parties not to do because of epidemic. why isnt he being fined?
How is this relevant?

Once Boris resigns for breaking the law and lying about it to parliament and the rest of us maybe the Police can take a look at Starmer?

dreamingofsun · 12/04/2022 18:05

jannie - agreed - both doing same thing....though if anything starmer was doing it indoors which was much worse.

Oh come on, time to resign from the chairman of the Boris Fan Club. Are you not worn out with it all?
